AI Revolution Gains Ground In Indian Healthcare: 75% Of Consumers And 97% Of Doctors Trust AI, Says 2025 ZS Future Of Health Report

* Over 60% of Indians Ready for Virtual Care—from Routine Checkups to Chronic Illness Management

ZS, the World’s leading management consulting and a technology solutions firm released the India findings of its 2025 ZS Future of Health Report that reveals how India is on the brink of a healthcare transformation, driven by unprecedented levels of trust in artificial intelligence (AI). According to the ZS report, an impressive 75% of consumers and 97% of primary care providers (PCPs) in India are ready to embrace AI-powered healthcare solutions for tasks such as disease prediction, risk assessment, and diagnosis.

The report also highlights that over 60% of Indians are open to adopting virtual care models for services ranging from routine consultations to chronic disease management—marking a pivotal shift toward digital-first healthcare. Furthermore, more than 63% of Indians show a strong interest in using AI-powered health apps for various healthcare needs including awareness, triage, and adherence.

Other key findings of the report include:

Challenges and Barriers:

Accessibility Crisis: Over two-thirds of global consumers believe healthcare is becoming increasingly inaccessible and unaffordable. High healthcare costs, administrative complexities, and disparities in AI trust are causing barriers in its adoption.

Healthcare systems face increasing pressure from aging populations and a rising burden of chronic diseases.

Overburdened Providers and workforce shortages: Many PCPs handle over 100 patients per week, limiting meaningful patient interactions. Workforce shortages are straining resources, limiting the ability of providers to meet rising patient demands.

Infrastructure gaps and fragmented care delivery remain significant barriers to equitable healthcare access.

Regulatory frameworks for data privacy and ethical AI usage are underdeveloped, slowing down innovation.

Preventive healthcare remains under-utilized, despite growing awareness of its potential to reduce long-term health burdens.

Emerging opportunities for growth:

There is a substantial opportunity for healthcare providers and technology companies to capitalize on the high digital health adoption rate. Leveraging data, AI, and technology can transform healthcare by closing care gaps, enhancing patient empowerment, and enabling healthcare providers to deliver flexible care models.

Expanding digital health infrastructure to bridge the urban-rural healthcare divide.

Leveraging AI-driven personalized healthcare for early detection, better diagnostics, and enhanced chronic disease management.

Promoting preventive health initiatives through digital monitoring tools and targeted awareness campaigns.

Fostering public-private partnerships (PPPs) to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and drive innovation.

Implementing alternative care delivery models and empowering non-physician healthcare providers, such as nurses, pharmacists, and community health workers to help reduce the load on doctors.

Strategic Recommendations:

Collaboration is a key: Stakeholders should collaborate to create integrated solutions that align with consumer preferences and relieve strained healthcare systems.

Pharma and biotech companies have a Golden Opportunity: Pharma companies can play a greater role in the patient pathway, from early detection to diagnosis to treatment to long-term care. They should focus on data-driven patient engagement, digital health solutions, and strategic collaborations with health systems.

Learnings from global best practices: By incorporating some global best practices and adapting them to India’s unique needs, the country can build a future-ready, accessible, and patient-centric healthcare system by 2030.

ZS 2025 Future of Health Report surveyed more than 12000 consumers and 1500 healthcare professionals across India, US, UK, China, Brazil, and Japan to reveal critical insights into the current market challenges and future opportunities shaping global healthcare landscape.
