NVS Travel Solutions Launches Eicher EV Bus For Employee Transportation

NVS Travel Solutions today launched India’s first ever electric bus fleet for employee transportation in Bangalore. Eicher, one of the leading EV bus manufacturers, handed over the first bus to NVS Travel Solutions today.

Established in 2007, NVS Travel Solutions today has a fleet of over 900 vehicles including buses, mini buses, and cars. Out of which company itself owns over 500 vehicles. Over the years the company is recognised as one of leading operators in employee and school transportation. The company also pioneered its own technology to track and manage its fleet. An in-house app Roorides made the complex system of school and employee transportation easier and provided better service experiences.

The introduction of electric buses for employee transportation is considered a unique one for the fact that the cost of each EV bus is 3- 4 times higher than conventional diesel buses. So far only government bodies are operating EV buses for public transportation with an MoU with select EV bus manufacturers.

No companies are willing to buy and operate them though they are environmentally conscious and willing to contribute for sustainable environment. There is demand for the EV buses for employee transportation. Because these buses costs 3- 4 times higher than conventional buses, no private travel operators come forward to buy them. However, we have developed a business model that enables corporations and manufacturing companies to efficiently achieve their carbon footprint reduction goals.

IIIT-Bangalore Conducts DPI Conclave To Promote Digital Public Infrastructure Systems

Digital public infrastructure is gaining global traction due to its profound ability to revolutionize the accessibility and efficiency of public services. Recognizing its importance, IIIT-Bangalore hosted a series of week long, DPI Conclave which concluded on June 14 2024, aimed at promoting and raising awareness about these systems. These efforts are designed to educate the community about the benefits of digital public infrastructure, demonstrating how it can enhance transparency, streamline administrative processes and encourage inclusive growth. Through workshops, seminars and collaborative efforts, IIIT-Bangalore is actively contributing to the broader adoption and understanding of this important technological advancement.

Web Science for Development (WS4D 2024)

The Web Science for Development (WS4D 2024) workshop is part of the Web Science research initiative at IIIT Bangalore. WS4D, started in 2019 brings together professionals from several domains, addressing different thematic concerns pertaining to the use of web and mobile technologies in developmental efforts. The theme of this year’s WS4D workshop was Digital Public Infrastructures. The workshop was a part of a week-long DPI Conclave.

Commenting on the success of the WS4D 2024 workshop, Prof. Srinath Srinivasa, Head of the Web Science Lab and Dean (R&D) at IIIT Bangalore, stated, "We successfully conducted the Workshop on Web Science for Development (WS4D) 2024, focusing on the crucial theme of Digital Public Infrastructures. This workshop, an integral part of our Web Science research initiative at IIIT Bangalore, aimed to encourage collaboration and innovation in leveraging web technologies for societal development. It provided an excellent platform to engage with experts and thought leaders, exploring how digital infrastructures can drive inclusive and sustainable growth."

The workshop featured invited talks by visiting researchers from the Centre of Data for Public Good, IISc Bangalore and other invitees from other parts of India. The workshop would also involve a DPI thinking poster presentation competition.

"After 'Identity' and 'Financial Inclusion' through Aadhar and Unified Payment Interfaces (UPI) respectively, part of the third pillar of the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) stack in India also known as the 'India Stack', Electronic Data Exchanges (DX) are going to revolutionize how innovative applications and solutions are build using data. Data exchanges like the India Urban Data Exchange (IUDX) and Agriculture Data Exchange (ADeX) make the access of datasets seamless, secure, consent-based, and interoperable thus opening new vistas and enabling the ecosystem," said Dr. Jyotirmoy Dutta, CDPG, IISc.

The importance of digital public infrastructure in enabling an ecosystem of technologists, policy makers and application developers cannot be underestimated," said Dr. Raghuram Krishnapuram, CDPG, IISc.

Workshop and Faculty Development Programme on DPI in the Age of AI

A Workshop and Faculty Development Programme on Digital Public Infrastructures in the Age of AI from June 11-13 was held that aimed to create awareness about DPIs in terms of their socio-technical requirements, present state-of-the-art methodologies that real-world DPI developers are using, and cutting edge research challenges around the theme of DPIs and how researchers in the area of social science, computer science and AI are trying to address these challenges.

"As the systems around Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) evolve rapidly, the challenges associated with them are also becoming more complex. In this context, it is crucial to explore the socio-technical requirements, as well as advancements in computer science and AI. Bringing together various stakeholders to discuss these issues and learn how researchers are tackling these challenges is essential. This workshop brings together stakeholders from academia, industry and government to discuss these topics and explore opportunities of collaborative research," says Prof. Sujit Chakrabarti, Convener of Workshop & Faculty Development Programme on Digital Public Infrastructures in the Age of AI.

DPI Dialogues

MOSIP is IIIT-B’s open-source effort to enable digital ID solutions in countries, with a special focus on developing countries. The Centre for Open Societal Systems (COSS), based out of IIIT-Bangalore and EkStep Foundation have been actively involved in developing and implementing open source digital infrastructure, particularly DPI (Digital Public Infrastructure) and DPG (Digital Public Goods)-led solutions addressing social problems at scale.

A delegation from the Brazilian Government was in IIIT-Bangalore for the Centre for Open Societal Systems for India DPI Immersion Program, DPI Dialogues which was held from June 3 till June 14. TKM Launches Toyota Technical Education Program Facility And STAR Scholarship Program At Government Polytechnic, Bareilly

In line with its commitment to ‘Skill India’ mission, Toyota Kirloskar Motor [TKM] today announced the launch of the 66th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) facility and the “Scholarship program for Technical Education and Recognition” [STAR] initiative under T-TEP at institute at The Government Polytechnic, Bareilly. The primary objective of these initiatives is to improve the skills of students, particularly those from rural areas, and increase their employability through the company's unique training program, the Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP). The launch event was graced by Chief Guest Mr. D C Verma, Member of Legislative Assembly, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in the presence of Principal of Government Polytechnic, Bareilly Mr. Narendra Kumar, Director of Commercial Toyota, Mr. Shivam Gupta and TKM senior management.

To support the local manufacturing ecosystem and empower communities through skill development, TKM has been at the forefront with its flagship programs like the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) and the Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP). One notable success is Mr. Akhilesh Narasimhamurthy, a TTTI alumnus and Mechatronics Bronze Medal winner at the 2022 World Skills Contest, who had the honour to interact with the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, during the celebration of the 3rd Anniversary of the National Education Policy program at Pragati Maidan, Delhi, on 29th & 30th July 2023 organized by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.

The T-TEP is a comprehensive, year-long program that includes On-the-Job Training (OJT) and is tailored for final-year ITI/Diploma students. Key features of this program include specialized training for T-TEP's lead trainers by Toyota, practical skills development at Toyota dealerships to enhance employability, and a curriculum designed to impart technical knowledge of advanced technologies in line with the needs of the Indian auto industry. Last year, TKM also launched the STAR scholarship program to help economically challenged students pursue technical studies. To date, over 13,000 students have been trained though T-TEP, with more than 70% securing employment in various automobile companies and their dealerships across the country.

Transforming Lives: How Rani's Coffee Plantation Became A Symbol of Empowerment

* Meet Rani, a resilient woman from Heravanadu, a quaint village nestled in Kodagu’s Madikeri taluk, steeped in the rich history of Mysore’s royal legacy.

A century ago, Heravanadu’s origins were intertwined with the grandeur of Mysore’s royal legacy. The founding families arrived here at the behest of the Mysore king, tasked with caring for the royal horses. When the king eventually left, he granted them the very lands they had nurtured. Thus began the saga of Heravanadu’s small coffee planters and laborers.

Starting as laborers in the fields, they gradually transitioned to cultivating their own land, primarily focusing on coffee. Today, there are approximately 25 coffee farmers in the village, each owning plots of land ranging from 2023 square meters to 8094 square meters.

Rani HP embarked on her journey in Heravanadu as a young bride with hopes and dreams. However, tragedy struck when her husband expired, leaving her with the responsibility of raising their three children and only 8094 square meters of land.

Determined to secure a future for her family, Rani initially worked as a daily wage laborer. Seeking guidance, she turned to the Dharmasthala Sangha (SSG), where she received invaluable support from other women. With their assistance, Rani transformed her barren land into a flourishing coffee plantation over two decades of hard work and dedication.

As the coffee market evolved, so did Rani's fortunes. From humble beginnings, she now commands a respectable price for her coffee beans, thanks to her expertise and perseverance. The turning point came when Anandana, The Coca-Cola India Foundation spearheading the Unnati coffee project in Coorg, and ISWAR, an NGO, recognized her dedication and offered support to Heravanadu.

Anandana, The Coca-Cola India Foundation, and ISWAR’s collaborative assistance were instrumental in providing specialized training, modern techniques in coffee plantations, and sustainable farming practices to Rani and her fellow farmers. As a result, Rani embodied the true essence of Coca-Cola India’s #SheTheDifference women empowerment campaign, which aims to uplift and empower rural women farmers and entrepreneurs like her.

Recognizing her leadership qualities, Rani was appointed as a board director for the Madikeri Highlands Farmers Producers Company Limited (FPO), launched by ISWAR in Coorg.

Rani's story epitomizes the collective strength of Heravanadu's community. With the unwavering support of her fellow villagers and her resilience, she transformed adversity into opportunity. 76% of Indian Employees Say Their Team Is Constantly Pulled In Too Many Directions: Atlassian State of Teams Report

Atlassian Corporation (NASDAQ:TEAM), a leading provider of team collaboration and productivity software including Jira, Confluence and Trello, has launched its report, ‘The State of Teams 2024’, that addresses the most crucial pain points of modern work and highlights specific focus areas for leaders who want to build high-performing teams, through effective collaboration. This year’s survey revealed 76% of Indian knowledge workers agree that their team is constantly pulled in too many directions.

Atlassian surveyed 5,000 knowledge workers across India, U.S., Australia, Germany, and France, as well as 100 Fortune 500 executives. The data shows knowledge workers spend so much time planning and talking about work that it prevents them from actually doing work that matters. The survey found that 93% of F500 executives say teams could deliver similar outcomes in half the time if they collaborated more effectively, and they estimate that only 24% of their teams are doing mission-critical work. According to the research, 25 billion work hours are lost to ineffective collaboration each year within the Fortune 500.

Over the last two decades, percentage of women in the manugacturing sector has been stagnant at 19-20%, according to the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI). BMW Motorrad India has launched the all-new BMW R 1300 GS in India. This Adventure Motorcycle will be available as a Completely Built-up Unit (CBU) and deliveries will commence from end of June 2024.

The all-new BMW R 1300 GS features an entirely new design which is based on the traditional GS icons while at the same time reflecting extreme compactness and significant weight reduction. With its significantly flatter tank ramp, the flyline is largely responsible for the very dynamic, light and accessible appearance of this motorcycle. Continuing on through the upholstered centre cover over the aluminium fuel tank, the seat gives the GS a typically enduro-style silhouette. A striking break with tradition in terms of design are the new LED Matrix Headlights. The integration of high beam and low beam in a single projector unit results in a redesign of the iconic face of the GS headlamp. With “Headlight Pro” available in all option Styles, the beam of the matrix full LED headlamp turns into the bend according to the banking position.

The all-new BMW R 1300 GS perfectly embodies what the BMW Motorrad development team has endowed the GS legend with: compact arrangement of the components, high functionality of the equipment – and everything focused on the essentials. In Lightwhite solid paint and in conjunction with its sharply drawn lines and very clean appearance, the all-new R 1300 GS has a truly muscular appearance and embodies the boxer GS theme in pristine style. The compact and low front end, together with the adjustable windshield and wide handlebars, provide an excellent overview, while the redefined GS ergonomics offer a confident, relaxed riding position. A sporty, slimline passenger seat, in combination with the functional sports grab handle bridge, emphasises the steeply rising and short rear end and at the same time offers good seating comfort for the passenger. In the basic version, the standard rider’s seat has a seat height of 850 mm and is fitted with a two-tone cover that forms a continuous functional unit in light grey texture extending from the fuel filler cap to the passenger seat. Together with the main frame coated in Gold, the new cross spoke wheels delineate the lower section of the motorcycle against the light front body section, thereby highlighting its powerful appearance.

The Optional Style Triple Black gives the all-new BMW R 1300 GS an even more masculine attitude The rear frame is likewise finished in black, as are most of the other surfaces. Also finished in black, the luggage carrier included in the Triple Black model variant is perfectly integrated in these shapes. In addition, the Style Triple Black has Comfort seats, Comfort passenger footrests and a centre stand. The electrically adjustable high windshield also comes with this style in combination with the cockpit trim and the wind deflectors with the new cross spoke wheels in Black. Optional Adaptive Height Control can be ordered only with Style Triple Black.

The optional Style GS Trophy sets the tone with basic finish Racing blue metallic sets. With red and white tapes and inscriptions combined with a rear frame in white metallic matt, the GS Trophy stands for the highest level of performance and sporty use off-road. The high rider’s comfort seat in combination with the Sport passenger seat offers the look and ergonomics of a rally seat, which in conjunction with the seat cover continued on the fuel tank cover forms a unit that can be used along its entire length. In the spirit of outstanding off-road competence, this optional style is equipped with radiator guards for damage protection. The robust cross-spoke wheels in gold also belong to the range of off-road-oriented fittings.

The all-new BMW R 1300 GS shows its exclusive and technically sophisticated side in the Option 719 Tramuntana. This combines cross-spoke wheels in gold with black components such as the main and rear frames, powertrain and the luggage carrier with grab handle. The gold anodised handlebar provides the perfect accentuation to match the gold-coloured lining on the body components and the gold rim bands. The side trim sections and the front wheel cover at the top are finished in Aurelius Green metallic, while the aluminium tank and intake silencer cover are likewise finished in Aurelius Green metallic but with a matt clear coating. The fuel tank centre cover in Luxor black/grey and the cylinder head covers in Avus black metallic matt blend in harmoniously with this.

The centrepiece of the all-new BMW R 1300 GS is once again the legendary two-cylinder boxer engine. Its new design is more compact than ever before thanks to a gearbox located under the engine and a new camshaft drive arrangement. This is by far the most powerful BMW boxer engine ever to be produced in series, producing an output of 107 kW (145 hp) at 7750 rpm, developing a maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6500 rpm. The boxer engine of the new BMW R 1300 GS is also equipped with the unique BMW ShiftCam technology for varying the valve timing and valve stroke on the intake side.

The entire suspension of the all-new BMW R 1300 GS was redesigned. The centrepiece is the new sheet metal main frame made of steel, which in addition to a significant optimisation of the installation space for even more compact packaging also offers higher levels of stiffness than the predecessor model. The motorcycle features new front wheel guide EVO Telelever with flex element and new rear wheel guide EVO Paralever for even greater steering precision and ride stability.

The all-new BMW R 1300 GS now comes with standard Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), Shift Assistant Pro, Riding Modes Pro, sport brake as a part of the Dynamic Package. Riding Modes Pro” comprises of three additional riding modes “Dynamic”, “Dynamic Pro” and “Enduro Pro” in addition to The “Rain” and “Road” riding modes which allow riding characteristics to be adapted to most road conditions And “Eco” riding mode which makes it possible to use the innovative BMW ShiftCam technology primarily in such a way that the maximum range can be achieved with a single tank of fuel. The riding mode “Enduro” enables an enhanced riding experience off the beaten track with a specific set-up for off-road use.

Engine drag torque control (MSR) is also available as standard, that can be used to safely avoid unstable riding conditions that can occur during coasting or downshifting due to excessive brake slip at the rear wheel. Hill start control (HSC) Pro is fitted as standard and enables convenient hill starts, even when carrying two people and luggage. The motorcycle comes as standard with a twin disc brake featuring two newly developed, radially mounted four-piston fixed calipers at the front and a single disc brake with two-piston floating calliper at the rear in conjunction with BMW Motorrad Full Integral ABS Pro. The standard Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) offers increased safety when braking, also in difficult situations, by preventing unintentional throttle application.

The all-new BMW R 1300 GS has the equipment feature Connectivity as standard, including a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen. In conjunction with the standard BMW Motorrad Multi-Controller with integrated operation, it gives the rider fast access to vehicle and connectivity functions. Standard Comfort package features Centre stand, Adjustable windscreen including high windshield high, cockpit trim and wind deflector, Passenger Kit including Comfort passenger seat, Comfort passenger rest and Luggage carrier. Touring package available only with option Styles include Central locking, preparation for navigation, chrome-plated manifold, left and right case holder, hand protector extension and the topcase holder.

Comfort features include Keyless Ride, heated grips, Smartphone charging compartment with integrated USB socket and additional 12 V on-board power socket as standard. Other standard list of features include Hand protectors with integrated turn indicators, Lithium-ion battery with Battery Guard and Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) with brake function.

The new BMW R 1300 GS Option 719 Tramuntana features the new Riding Assistant for safe and convenient motorcycling. Active Cruise Control (ACC) with integrated distance control can be used to set the desired riding speed as well as the distance to the vehicle in front. Front Collision Warning (FCW) with brake intervention is designed to prevent collisions and help reduce the severity of accidents, while Lane Change Warning monitors the lanes to the left and right and can help ensure a safe lane change while supporting use of the rear mirror.
