AIFI Announces New Leadership Team for 2024-26: Mr. Yash Munot As President, Mr. S. Ravishankar As Vice-President


The Association of Indian Forging Industry (AIFI), the apex body representing the Indian forging industry, proudly announces the election of Mr. Yash Munot as the new President of AIFI for the term 2024-26. Mr. S.  Ravishankar  has been elected  as the Vice President of AIFI, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the organization's leadership.

Mr. Yash Munot, who previously served as Vice-President of AIFI from 2020 to 2024, is the youngest  to undertake the role of President in the organization's history. He succeeds Mr. Vikas Bajaj, who served as President from 2020 to 2024.

Mr. Munot currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Varsha Forgings Private Limited and the Managing Director at KCTR Varsha Automotive. His journey in the forging industry began in 2005 with him being inducted into Varsha Forgings Private Limited, the  family business.  Beyond his industrial achievements, Mr. Munot is recognized for his diversified business ventures in sectors such as lifestyle products, health food, hospitality and philanthropy, including the adoption of an orphanage and medical aid distribution during the pandemic.

His leadership within AIFI has been marked by significant contributions, including his contribution  in organizing major industry events like IFC 2011, Forgetech  India 2016, Asia Forge 2019 and ForgeTech India  2023. He has served as the Western Region Chairman from 2018 to 2020. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Finance and Marketing from Regents Business School of London and a leadership degree from the London Business School. He is also a member of EO, an esteemed organization for entrepreneurs.

Mr.  S. Ravishankar  currently serves as the Managing Director  at Super Auto Forge  Private Limited . Mr.  Ravishankar has over 25 years of experience in the Auto component manufacturing Industry. He is a Manufacturing Engineer with  Bachelors degree from Annamalai University and  Masters degree from The Ohio State University.

After working in Detroit for 2 years, Mr. Ravishankar returned to India and joined his family business at Super Auto Forge(SAF) in 1997 . He has been  instrumental in developing the international  business of SAF and led the initiative to establish marketing offices  in Detroit in 2001 and followed by Belgium in 2011. HDFC Pension Becomes First Private Sector Pension Fund Manager To Surpass Rs. 1 Lakh Crore In AUM

Historic Achievement For India At WorldSkills Lyon 2024 In Culinary Excellence By WGSHA, Student


The 47th WorldSkills Competition, held from 10 to 15 September 2024 at EUREXPO Lyon, France, witnessed the participation of 1,400 competitors from over 70 countries, all vying for recognition in their respective skills. This prestigious international skills competition aims to inspire, develop, and influence by promoting skill development among young people and showcasing the vital role of skills in driving economies forward.

India had an impressive representation, competing in 52 skills with 60 competitors. The team returned with 3 Bronze Medals and 12 Medallions of Excellence, a testament to the country’s growing investment in vocational training and skill development.

Among the stars of the competition was Harshvardhan, a BA Culinary Arts student from WGSHA, who achieved a landmark victory by securing a Medallion of Excellence in the Cooking category. Competing against participants from 43 countries, Harshvardhan's hard work and dedication earned him this prestigious recognition — the first time India has received this honour in Cooking Skills.

Harshvardhan's success is the culmination of three months of rigorous training, which included mastering Hot Kitchen, Cold Kitchen, Buffet Presentations, and Bakery Module in alignment with WorldSkills standards. Six weeks prior to the main event, WorldSkills released the test project covering tasks such as Hot Kitchen, Cold Kitchen, French Bistro, and a Skill Test, all of which were meticulously practiced at WGSHA’s specially arranged training kitchens. Harshvardhan was also provided with physical and mental fitness training sessions to ensure his readiness for the challenge.

A key component of his preparation was competing in the Switzerland Nationals friendly competition, which offered invaluable exposure to international competition environments and standards.

Dr. (Chef) K. Thirugnanasambantham, Principal of WGSHA, Manipal, served as Harshvardhan’s Expert Mentor throughout the competition journey. Chef K. Thiru guided Harshvardhan through the rigorous training and competition process, ensuring that Harshvardhan not only excelled technically but also developed the resilience and focus necessary for such a global stage.

Reflecting on this experience, Chef K. Thiru stated, "Harshvardhan's success is a remarkable achievement on the global platform, and it showcases his confidence and ability to make a positive impact in the culinary world.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Employees Represent India At WorldSkills 2024


In a significant stride toward furthering the "Skill India Mission" and the vision of "Viksit Bharat 2047," Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today proudly announced the achievements of its employees’ performance at the WorldSkills Competition 2024, held in Lyon, France. Known as the "Olympics of Skills," this premier global event brought together young professionals from across the world, competing in over 60 categories, ranging from engineering to creative arts.

Representing TKM, employees Harish Gowda, Mohit Umashankara, Nelson Vanidhara, Prem Kumar, Bhanuprasad S M, and Darshan Gowda C S had previously triumphed at the India Skills 2024 competition, earning the right to represent India on the global stage. Each employee brought unique strengths to the WorldSkills Competition 2024, contributing to the team’s remarkable performance. While Prem Vasanth Kumar achieved Medallion of Excellence in Additive Manufacturing, Bhanuprasad SM and Darshan Gowda CS showcased remarkable versatility to achieve the Medallion of Excellence in Mechatronics. Medallion of Excellence is awarded to the competitors with 700 or more points. Further, the Mechatronics candidates were awarded second place for Sustainable Practice Award having successfully completed tasks that are measured against industry sustainability standard with the highest level of performance.

The contestants were trained at the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI). Since its inception in 2007, TTTI has been committed to providing advanced technical education and fostering overall development among rural youth. The planned increase in intake reinforces TKM’s commitment to empowering economically challenged youths, creating world-class technicians, enhancing societal development, and employment. One of the recent initiatives to promote admission of female students, 'Toyota Kaushalya,' has been well-received by students. It offers a unique opportunity for youth to acquire skills relevant to the manufacturing industry, combining theoretical learning with on-the-job training (OJT) enhancing their employability. Furthermore, many of our employees after been trained at TTTI and TKM get the opportunity to be trained in Japan to gain hands on experience in global environment. Based on Toyota’s model of skill development, TKM has been developing 65 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Government Tool Room Training Centers across Karnataka.

Initiated in 1950, the World Skills Competition is the global hub for skills excellence and development through international cooperation and development. It is the global meeting place for government, education, industry, and association leaders to discuss relevant and important issues related to skills management.

In 2024, the competition saw participation from more than 1400 competitors from 62 countries challenging each other in 61 skill sets. India took part in 52 skills, winning 4 Bronze and 12 Medallions of Excellence in respective categories. The team consisted of 60 talented young minds.  The participants were selected through a nationwide screening process under the guidance of the National Skill Development Council (NSDC).

At the Public Affairs Forum of India’s (PAFI) 11th Annual Forum, Shri BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog, Government of India said, “Our economy should easily double by 2023”.

Shri Subrahmanyam emphasized that by 2047, India will be among the world's youngest nations demographically, poised for prosperity, with a projected per capita income of around $18,000 to $20,000. This growth is significant as India is expected to emerge as a major global player, building on the substantial progress made over the past decade in addressing challenges such as natural disasters and poverty. By mid-2025, many basic issues are anticipated to be resolved, setting the stage for robust economic advancement.

Shri Subrahmanyam said India stands at a pivotal moment in its journey toward becoming a global powerhouse, with projections indicating an economy of $38 trillion and a youthful population that strengthens its global position. As a ‘Vishwamitra’ and ‘Vishwabandhu’, India’s rise benefits the world, particularly through its climate and green technologies leadership. India’s ambition to become the third-largest economy by 2026-2027 necessitates a cohesive grand strategy, prioritizing the resolution of the middle-income trap as a critical challenge to our long-term aspirations.

Shri Subrahmanyam added that urban development and infrastructure are crucial, with cities designed as economic hubs to drive growth. The private sector must lead in innovation and investment, supported by an enabling environment that attracts both portfolio and direct investments. Additionally, reforming supply chains is essential for navigating globalization, while India’s emphasis on Atmanirbharta fosters trade on our own terms. By establishing itself as a solutions hub for engineering and promoting "Make in India" as a hallmark of quality, India can create a strong base for global markets. Ultimately, reforms at the state level and a commitment to cooperative federalism will ensure inclusive growth, positioning India to emerge as a global giant and lead into a prosperous future.

Euro Panel Products Ltd, which owns EUROBOND - one of the leading Aluminium Composite Panel Brands in India, today integrated India’s most advanced coating line in an INR 30 Crore investment. The development aims to strengthen the Make-in-India initiative, with a significant capacity of 750 tons monthly. This cutting-edge coating line is also the country’s longest line and features a three-coat two-bake continuous processing with an accumulator, helping Euro Panel Products Ltd to mitigate dependency on Chinese materials and manufacture 100% Make-in-India products. 

The INR 30 Crore investment by Euro Panel Products Ltd includes costs associated with machinery and land; It will also generate 50 immediate jobs, with another 25 in the next 6 months, contributing to local employment and economic growth. This development is aimed at enhancing the supportive ecosystem behind ACP manufacturing and will have a positive impact on the balance sheets for the upcoming fiscal years. This strategic initiative will help EUROBOND to decouple from Chinese supply chain dependencies, where coated coils were imported from China. Going forward, the company will source coils from prominent Indian manufacturers to finish the coating in-house using Indian paint, reducing the time from 2 months to 1-2 weeks — a critical step in ensuring faster service and better quality for customers.

Mr. Rajesh Shah, Managing Director of Euro Panel Products Ltd. shared his insights on the development saying, “Our focus is to facilitate a customer-oriented approach through premium quality and customisable products that contribute to the national economy. We plan to drive this strategy by adopting a comprehensive transition away from Chinese materials and strengthening the Make-in-India initiative. The impact of this development is not only limited to raising efficiency and generating new employment opportunities but also significantly reducing delivery time by over 75%, while maintaining significantly lowered RM holding in our inventories. Integrating this next-gen technology will enable our customers to choose from an infinite range of customization aspects, directly contributing to growth and scalability in future.” 

Integrating the coating-line technology will also lead to Euro Panel Products Ltd undertaking in-house R&D efforts that will focus on designs and texture. This will enable the company to offer exclusive and customised designs equipped with specialised coatings and extended warranties on special requirements to its extensive clientele. The firm will focus on sourcing only base coils, to be coated based on requirements and demand. This will enable them to reduce RM inventory, as the requirement of holding coated coils of different colours and grades in stock will be diminished. 

This strategic development is far from limited to enhancing employment and efficiency but reducing man-hours, optimising resource utilisation and flexibility in customisation. Furthermore, it will help the company to open up a brand new business avenue of providing coated coils, passively contributing to increased turnover.

Meghalaya Launches Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign, Pledges To Be One Of The Cleanest States Of India


To strengthen voluntarism and collective action for Swachh Bharat and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM-G), Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) & Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U), Urban Affairs Department launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (SHS) 2024 at Shillong. The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ fortnight will be observed from September 17th to October 2nd with the theme of Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskaar Swachhata.

Shri Sniawbhalang Dhar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Meghalaya & Minister In-charge, Urban Affairs Department stressed on the importance of a clean environment and the responsibility of each citizen to play their part in ensuring a clean environment. He highlighted that the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, is a crucial programme that requires public participation to succeed.

During the programme, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister mentioned that the Urban Department has allocated significant funds for infrastructure development, including Rs 5.8 crore for footpath renovation in Iew Duh and a proposed Rs 15 crore for upgrading the traditional market. The revamped market will feature separate sections for vegetables, wet markets, and clothing. Moreover, Dhar also shared his vision to make Meghalaya one of India’s top tourism destinations within five years, emphasising the importance of cleanliness in achieving this goal. This aligns with the Swachh Bharat Mission’s objectives, which include improving health, safety, dignity, and economic benefits for citizens.

Smti. R. M Kurbah, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, highlighted that as citizens it is our responsibility to take the pledge to ensure that cleanliness is maintained, while also introspecting on what can be done for the country. She talked about the working conditions of sanitation workers and dignity of labour, raising awareness that they should be respected for the work done. Smti Kurbah mentioned that 70 e-vehicles have been earmarked by the government out of which 67 has been received and are functional, that will be carrying wastes from households.

To mark the launch of the Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) 2024, the Swachhata pledge was also administered today.

The objective of SHS 2024 is to facilitate large-scale advocacy and citizen participation for swachhata, mega cleanliness drives & clearing of dirty and difficult garbage spots (black spots), recognise the contribution of sanitation workers, celebrate the achievements over the past decade, and reaffirm our commitment to the future of sanitation and sustainable waste management in India.

Shri J. P. Lakiang, MCS, Joint Secretary and Mission Director, Swacch Bharat Mission Grameen remarked that the presence of everyone in the programme reflects the collective commitment to fostering a culture of cleanliness and hygiene which forms the bedrock of a healthy and progressive society. “The Swachh Bharat Mission has always been not only a sanitation initiative but a movement in transforming our lifestyles and instilling values that elevate communities,” he said.

As part of SHS 2024, three pillars of activities are being carried out-Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) - Shramdaan activities aimed at the time-bound transformation of target units and general cleanliness. Swachhata Mein Jan Bhagidari - Promoting public participation, awareness, and advocacy. Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs - Conducting preventive health checkups and providing social security coverage for sanitation workers.

Björn Sommer, Sibusiso Thusi, Karin Kollross and Graham Darab are the recipients of this year's BMW Group Award for Social Responsibility. Their commitment deserves recognition. The official award ceremony was held on 16 September in Munich. The four winners are actively involved with social causes in Germany, South Africa and Bolivia. With passion and dedication, they empower the families of children with cancer, support disadvantaged youth, provide aid to street children and help individuals struggling with addiction by offering them new opportunities. With this Award, every year, the BMW Group honours associates worldwide who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the common good. Each winner receives prize money of 10,000 euros for their project.

“The BMW Group Award for Social Responsibility is truly inspiring. It highlights the profound impact individual dedication can have and shows how commitment to others strengthens the entire community. Our associates are driving change by developing practical solutions to social problems. Their projects create a positive impact and serve as an invitation to everyone to step up and get involved,” says Ilka Horstmeier, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for People and Real Estate, who is also patron of the Award.

Appreciation for the whole team

The BMW Group Award for Social Responsibility has been highly regarded within the company for many years, achieving an impact that extends far beyond simply recognising the individuals involved. Around 100 associates worldwide submitted entries for the BMW Group Award this year. Behind each winning project is a whole team of dedicated helpers within the organisations themselves, who also receive recognition and appreciation through the Award. Volunteers find their involvement in social causes deeply enriching, motivated by the desire to give back to the community. One of the winners described the experience of being able to help as “grounding you and making you grateful”.

Here are the 2024 award-winners:

Sibusiso Thusi, who works in HR at Plant Rosslyn in South Africa, is the recipient of the Vera-und-Volker-Doppelfeld Award, which fosters commitment among young people. Sibusiso helps schoolchildren in South Africa discover their talents and realise their professional dreams. As a mentor with the “Young Aspiring Thinkers” initiative, he goes into public schools in economically disadvantaged areas to help children make up learning deficits, prepare them for internships and share insights into the world of work. He knows from experience that education is key to them taking control of their own lives.

Björn Sommer, a process and digitalisation expert based in Munich, possesses true pioneering spirit: He is developing a digital patient companion to support the families of children with cancer, aimed at improving their quality of life. His project garnered the interest of a team of colleagues: Together, under the umbrella of the association “Initiative for Children with Cancer Munich”, they developed a digital platform that consolidates all information relating to their illness.

Karin Kollross, who works in Technology Materials and Process Analytics in Munich, is deeply committed to helping street children in the Bolivian city of Cochabamba. She first experienced the plight of local children as a backpacker, later discovering the project “Emanuel Foundation – Children with a Future”. The initiative established a home for children whose mothers work in the neighbouring red-light district. Karin is working to ensure the continued existence of this safe haven.

Graham Darab, MINI brand manager for the company's branches in central Germany, helps people break the cycle of addiction. As a trained addiction counsellor, he leads a self-help group at the “Living without addiction”association, where he helps people overcome addiction by maintaining a stable lifestyle and avoiding relapse. He also serves as one of the BMW Group’s addiction officers, undertaking important prevention efforts.

Assuming social responsibility is one of the BMW Group's core values, having encouraged social commitment among associates for many years. One Of Kind Of operation Of A Nigerian Doctor In Bengaluru


Gabriel Pascal an optometrist , aged 43  hailing from Nigeria suffered from facial nerve paralysis secondary to a bony tumour involving his ear bones and was struggling to smile or speak and was also having difficulty closing his eyes. This had troubled him immensely since food used to escape from his mouth and there was excessive watering of eyes. His notable problem was in difficulty to express any emotions on his face driving him to become depressed and social isolation. The patient had researched various treatment options and zeroed in on Trustwell hospitals for his advanced medical and surgical care. He underwent the complete Tumour excision and reconstruction by a surgical oncology team at a different hospital successfully, after which he was transferred to Trustwell hospitals for surgical and rehabilitative treatment of his face  Paralysis.

The procedure called as Facial reanimation, is a very complex surgical procedure done to give life back to the nerve and muscle of the face especially mouth by joining new donor nerves from other areas to the faulty facial nerve to make the face work again. This involves a prolonged operating time of 10 -12 hrs with stringent intraoperative nerve monitoring where the nerve and muscle activity is understood by an electrode machine interface interacting with the nerves of the body continuously. Being a specialised surgery requiring high end diagnostic and therapeutic surgical option, there are very few centres in the country performing Comprehensive Facial paralysis management.

The surgical team headed by Dr Vishwas Vijayadev who is the first International Board-certified Diplomate facial plastic surgeon from USA, performed this complex procedure with his team of Dr Anand Subhash, Dr Stuti Mahajan, Dr Sravya Kakollu, done first time in the country involving a double nerve transfer. This involved transferring a nerve from the leg on to the face and connecting it from the normal side of the face with functioning facial nerve, second nerve used for chewing and rerouting the current to the paralysed nerve on the face. The anaesthetic team headed by Dr NS Chandrashekhara and Dr Jaydev handled the complex interplay of anaesthetic medications in the prolonged surgery during which nerve stimulation had to be appreciated for the surgical teams to identify and delineate the nerves for surgery.

The Nerves are living organs which can be transferred from one part of the body to the other and they come alive after gap of few months, but this requires delicate and trained handling of the tissues and specialised techniques to join the nerves across the face without causing further damage to the face. Additionally, to improve the eye closure innovative and evolved surgeries were performed on this patient as compared to the conventional surgeries being done in India. This surgery lasting 11 hours was done at Trust well hospital since the hospital has started a separate department of Facial plastic surgery and Facial nerve disorders by equipping it with the latest infrastructure from USA, Europe, Israel , Taiwan and state of the art Operating theatre ,High dependency Units,  surgical Intensive care units.

Advanced rehabilitative surgery of this type is seldom available to the public. With the intention of having the latest cutting edge surgical solutions with best safety and outcomes for the patients, Trustwell has put its might behind this unique case and subspecialised Doctors and Surgeons like Dr Vishwas Vijayadev , who have trained abroad and moved to India for developing newer realms and areas where treatments have so far been dismal and incurable.

Stonehill Founder's Day Run Sees Record Participation In Its 7th Edition


The seventh edition of the Stonehill Founder's Day Run, organised by Raadiant Sports, witnessed an unprecedented turnout of over 1300 participants on Sunday, September 15th. Beginning at the Stonehill campus, the runners navigated the picturesque trails of Tarahunise village in North Bangalore. This year's event marked a significant milestone, with participation increasing by 30% from the previous edition.

The Stonehill Founder’s Day Run is an annual event that celebrates the Founder of Stonehill International School, Bangalore. The School was founded in September 2008 by Mr. Jitu Virwani, Chairman & Managing Director, Embassy Group.
