The price revision has been necessitated to partially offset the impact of steadily increasing commodity prices.

In India, nearly 90 million selfies were taken to help ensure safer rides during the pandemic by helping Uber implement its ‘no mask, no ride’ policy better.

Committed INR 100 Crores for driver welfare: Drivers are the power behind every ride and Uber had their back. We took several steps to support drivers during the pandemic, including an Uber Care Driver Fund, COVID financial assistance, safety kits and safety screens, free online doctor consultations for drivers’ families; microloans to meet important family needs, and cash incentives to get vaccinated. 

As cities opened up, the demand for Uber rides grew significantly - here is how we rolled:

100 cities: Eight years after its India launch in 2013, Uber achieved this milestone in 2021 with the launch of its Auto and Car services in Warangal, Telangana.

Uber Connect's demand grows 5x: Uber’s point-to-point package delivery service between friends and families grew significantly during the pandemic. New use cases emerged with many people using the service to transport grocery, non-prescription medication, medical devices, and food items, among other things.

Uber Auto marches ahead; Mumbai sees 2x demand: Riders prefer e-hailed autos as a safe, convenient, and affordable transport mode to move around town. Cities such as Mumbai and Bhubaneswar witnessed a 2x demand compared to pre-covid levels.

Riders love Rentals; demand nearing 2x: Demand for Rentals, which allows riders to book affordable multi-hour, multi-stop options to travel, grew significantly. This was fuelled by new use-cases including sightseeing, local shopping, visiting places of worship, traveling to family get-togethers, and traveling for business meetings, among others.

Rise in Road-trips fuel Intercity demand: Pandemic shaped customer preferences, as people picked road trips over other means of getting around. Many chose to get into an Uber for the first time for their intercity travel needs resulting in the demand for Uber Intercity growing higher than pre-COVID levels. Popular routes saw increased rider demand including Mumbai - Alibaug and Lonavala; Delhi - Agra & Jaipur; Chennai - Puducherry, and Chandigarh - Delhi among the top few.

HCL Foundation Signs MOU With “Karnataka Forest Department For Plantation Of Native Species And Nature Conservation”


The HCL Foundation (HCLF), the CSR arm of HCL technologies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Karnataka Forest Department under HCL Harit Programme for plantation of native species and habitat improvement for birds, bees, and other animals. 

The MoU will play a critical role in involving local stakeholders toward community-based forest conservation. 

HCLF focus and give special emphasis on combat climate change and to enhance native biodiversity and restore ecosystem services 

The MOU was signed in the presence of Shri. Sanjay Mohan, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests - Head of Forest Force, Karnataka Forest Department and Ms. Nidhi Pundhir, Director, HCL Foundation.  

The project will be carried out on lines with the overall mandate of Karnataka Forest Department on the larger socio-environmental good. The site is spread across 47.07 acres and is in Govindapura, Bengaluru North. 

The MOU reaffirms the long-standing partnership between the two entities to ensure the removal of invasive species and plantation of native trees and nurturing them. This can help to strengthen and enable to mitigate the impact of climate change and a create a safe habitat for local flora and fauna to thrive.

Total employment in IDA client companies in Ireland now stands at 275,384, up 16,826 on 2020.  104 of the 249 investments won in 2021 were new name investments, a better than anticipated new name performance considering the ongoing restrictions due to the pandemic.

Growth in employment in 2021 brought the number of people employed in the FDI sector in Ireland to 275,384 from 258,558 last year.  Job losses remained at a relatively modest level relative to the size of the overall portfolio resulting in an extremely strong net employment growth this year – (16,826 net increase).

Growth in regions was particularly buoyant with 53% - 133 projects of the 249 investments won going to regional locations and employment growth recorded in every region of the country.

The strong growth in regional investment was supported by IDA Ireland’s property programme. A robust property and infrastructure ecosystem can be the key differentiator in winning FDI projects, as evidenced by the record regional results achieved under IDA’s Winning 2015-2019 strategy. This positive momentum has been maintained since the commencement of our new strategy.

The 2021 figures show a pattern of sustained, robust growth in FDI investment and FDI-related employment over a continuous period of more than ten-years. This year’s results represent a strong start to IDA’s new 2021-2024 strategy, Driving Recovery and Sustainable Growth, which seeks to further enhance FDI’s place at the centre of a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive Irish economy. 

A Tánaiste & Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment Leo Varadkar T.D. said: “These results are quite remarkable. In another year that was unfortunately mired by the pandemic, we saw the highest FDI employment creation figures we’ve ever had in a single year. There are now more people employed in our multinational sector than ever before – 275,384.

I think this demonstrates the strength of our economy and the fortitude of our people. Achieving over a decade of consistent FDI growth is a huge accomplishment, given the challenges our country faced during that time; recessions, Brexit and the pandemic among others. This is largely down to the sectors that IDA has targeted over the past decade – Technology, Pharma, Medical Technology, International Financial Services, Business services, Engineering and Food - those sectors that underpin a modern economy.”

There are now close to 1,700 multinational operations supported by IDA in Ireland accounting directly for 11% of the Irish workforce.

Mastercard And Google Pay Come Together To Facilitate Tokenization For Card-Based Payments Across India


* The companies work together to provide consumers choice - strengthening the ease, safety, and security of digital payments in India

Mastercard and Google today announced the rollout of tokenization that will enable Google Pay users to safely transact using their Mastercard credit and debit cards while enjoying a hassle-free experience. Through tokenization, Mastercard cardholders can make payments through a secure digital token without having to share their credit or debit card details such as card number, expiry date, etc. with a merchant. This collaboration is a commitment to ensure the best-in-class user experience and security features in an increasingly digital first world.

With this collaboration, Google Pay Android users can scan and pay across all Bharat QR-enabled merchants, tap-and-pay, and make in-app transactions through their Mastercard debit and credit card. For a convenient registration, users will do a one-time setup by entering their card details and their OTP to add their card on the Google Pay app.

Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES) allows payment credentials to be securely tokenized and stored in mobile devices. When making a purchase with a Mastercard debit or credit card using Google Pay, cardholders and merchants will enjoy a similar experience as a regular card-based transaction with enhanced safety and convenience. Even if the cardholder’s mobile device is misplaced, details of the card still remain secure as they are stored as digital tokens. The token can be updated by the card issuer allowing lost, expired, or replaced cards to be automatically updated with the merchant. This simplifies the consumer experience and improves success rates by reducing the number of failed transactions on account of expired card details.

Speaking about the latest collaboration, Sajith Sivanandan, Business Head: Google Pay and NBU - APAC said, “At Google Pay, our endeavor is to simplify payments and make it accessible to as many users as possible - one key pillar in making this a reality is to offer the highest levels of security for every transaction with the help of technology. This is already live for several credit card issuers on Mastercard, and we are working closely with other banking partners to further expand the adoption of tokenization in India. We are hopeful that the added simplicity and convenience will make an ever-larger base of users feel secure in making more payments digitally”

McDonald’s India Reinforces Its Commitment To The EatQual Platform Aimed At Fostering Inclusion


* Launches a new campaign to highlight its inclusivity platform EatQual and the role it has been playing in creating an inclusive experience at McDonald’s

McDonald’s India (West and South) has yet again reinforced its commitment to fostering inclusion through its latest campaign. The iconic brand has launched a heart-warming brand film created by DDB Mudra that highlights how small innovations can go a long way in making the world more equal for everyone. The latest campaign showcases the role that the McDonald’s EatQual packaging plays in addressing one of the many challenges that people with limited upper limb mobility face in their everyday lives. The brand has reiterated that it aims to extend the EatQual platform to launch meaningful initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion across gender, languages and disabilities.

The film opens to a kid trying to do various day-to-day activities such as trying to play a guitar, doing a craft project, trying his hand at blocks, playing video games    using only one hand, and struggling at each one of those. It then shows him walking up to his friend who has only one upper limb, with two burgers – one in the regular packaging and one in the EatQual packaging. It closes with both of them biting into the burger, with his friend being able to hold and have the burger with ease, in the EatQual case.

The brand film showcases a child’s curiosity to explore the world as they see others experience it. The kid after trying a host of activities realizes that eating a McDonald’s burger is one of the few experiences that he and his friend with limited upper limb mobility can share easily.
