To mark the World Environment Day ‘23, Axis Bank, one of the largest private sector banks in India, organized Clean-A-Thon, a cleanliness drive at Puttenahalli Lake and Saul Kere Lake in Bangalore. This initiative is a part of the Bank’s nationwide campaign to clean 25+ beaches and water bodies. Around 100+?volunteers joined the campaign to emphasize the urgency of combating plastic pollution and promoting responsible waste management practices. The occasion was graced with the presence of Chief Guest - Mr. Shivraj, DFRO, Karnataka Forest Department at Puttenhalli Lake while the Chief Guest - Mr. Subramaniam Sankaran, Managing Trustee at Mapsas Trust visited Saul Kere Lake to encourage the volunteers.
The cleanliness drive witnessed participation from the Bank’s branch employees, local communities, environmental activists / influencers, local authorities and volunteers who collected around 450kg of plastic waste from water bodies. The volunteers also educated?the local people?about the harmful effects of plastic pollution,?and how they can reduce the use of single-use plastics.

The Bank will be driving this campaign from 4th?to 11th?June 2023 across 20 cities namely Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Varanasi, Patna, Lucknow etc. This initiative is in alignment with the United Nations’ overarching theme for World Environment Day 2023 ‘#BeatPlasticPollution’.
