SBI Card Unveils Video Based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP)

SBI Card, India’s largest pure-play credit card issuer announced the launch of “Video Know Your Customer” (VKYC) feature to ensure zero contact, hassle free customer on-boarding process. This launch is in line with SBI Card’s endeavour to establish an end to end paperless, digital sourcing and onboarding process.  VKYC launch will not only have a substantial impact on fraud reduction, but it will also reduce cost of the KYC process by nearly half.

SBI Card has launched VKYC following recent Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines permitting VCIP as a method of establishing customer identity together with E-Sign process. VKYC offers a simple, presence-less journey where a customer does not have to physically interact with anyone.  In the digital customer onboarding journey, E-sign process helps in obtaining digital signature from the applicant on a digital application form. The Applicant receives his application form in PDF format for validating the details he had provided. After verifying details, applicant digitally e-signs the application form and card processing can commence.

Commenting on the launch of VKYC, Mr. Hardayal Prasad, MD & CEO, SBI Card said, “We are a technology driven company and have made strategic investments to create state-of-the art infrastructure, both at the back end and front end, to improve our user experience. Technology has been meticulously deployed to digitise the customer journey at every step and make the entire process seamless. In line with our vision to Make Life Simple, we are now happy to launch Video KYC - a secure, AI driven, digital journey for our customers. It provides ease of use along with a high degree of safety through a contactless process. In a scenario, where social distancing has become the norm, this feature holds immense relevance for our customers, and we expect it to gain significant traction.”

With social distancing being the new normal, VKYC enables a customer to undergo a completely presence-less journey, without the need to physically interact with anyone. VKYC process uses techniques such as facial recognition, Dynamic Verification code, AI enabled OCR, Live Photo Capture facial recognition, OCR, geotagging etc, as mandated by RBI guidelines, making it more safe and secure than physical KYC process.

Technology infrastructure and systems are a key competitive strength for SBI Card. SBI Card has made significant investments in technology infrastructure. Manipal Swindling Case Enters a New Phase; It’s Real Estate

The Manipal swindling case, involving over INR 75 crore. is netting new participants in the case. One Raveendra P, a real estate player, has now been accused of benefitting indirectly from some of the money swindled from the city-based Manipal Group which involved elaborate and convoluted methods to launder the siphoned off funds and escape detection. Raveendra has allegedly taken some of the money, amounting to INR 1.12 crore, siphoned off by the main accused Sandeep Gururaj, the former finance head of the Group, at a rate of interest of 18%. He has now been granted ad interim (temporary) bail in the case. Raveendra is scheduled to appear before the court for a hearing on June 26.

Gururaj used four other associates to launder the funds through Raveendra’s business. The investigation had surmised that the money lent by the four to Raveendra was indeed the money of Sandeep Gururaj.

He has been involved in a lot of real estate projects, many of them involving questionable means, proved by the numerous cases foisted against him over the properties centred around Jigani, on the outskirts of Bengaluru.  Raveendra, an IT professional with an IT major in Bengaluru, quit his job in 2007 to take to real estate development and construction and hit pay dirt. Raveendra came in touch with Gururaj in 2014 who lent INR 1.12 crore along with three partners in the business at a rate of interest of 18%.

After the investigation officers analysed the calls and messages between the participants in this instance, they realised the deal was fully funded by Gururaj.

Raveendra was then arraigned. Raveendra is set to appear for a judicial interrogation instead of a police interrogation.

It may be recalled, the case blew up when the main accused Sandeep Gururaj, along with his wife Charusmita, his associate Amrita Chengappa and Amrita’s mother Meera Chengappa were arrested on December 27, 2018, for siphoning off about INR 70 crore from Manipal Group’s accounts.

The first anticipatory bail application was in January 2019, and another in April 2019, in the High Court. A lookout circular was issued after the rejection of the third anticipatory bail in June, He has subsequently been proclaimed an offender under CrPC 82.

It may be recalled, a case of misappropriation was registered with the Cubbon Park police station, Bengaluru and the main accused has been in judicial custody from December 2018.

Tulips Covid-19 Swabs to Tackle Global Testing Kit Shortage

With COVID-19 cases rising fast, Tulips, Asia’s leading personal hygiene consumer care product innovator, today, announced that it is accelerating production of special, affordable ICMR and NIV approved swabs to help overcome the world’s shortage of test kits. Test kit swabs are one of many medical and personal protection equipment in short supply globally.

The pandemic can’t be fought without widespread testing to find out who has the disease. And, it’s critical for finding those people who may be spreading the virus with or without showing all the symptoms. Millions of testing swabs are needed across world, and so Tulips is focussed on innovation and scaling up the production in record time, to tackle the situation.

Revised ICMR guidelines asks all symptomatic and asymptomatic high-risk contacts of confirmed cases to be tested. Even under these guidelines, India may need to step up to five lakhs tests a day, as the country opens up and further spread seems inevitable.

While Tulips has already supplied more than 10 million affordable swabs to major VTM kit producers present throughout India within a month, it is now keen to meet the global demand. Most of the states are using low cost Indian special Swabs, as these have helped them to cut their Test Kit costs by almost 40 percent to 60 percent.

With promising design, indigenous innovation, and stringent quality, Tulips is resolute to scale up production for widespread availability of swabs to help timely diagnosis. Besides producing sufficient swabs to meet the surging testing needs, the company is keen on partnering with governments to share their processing expertise and donate free swabs to those in need.

Accelerating testing is an integral part of the response mechanism to combat COVID-19. For instance, the US has recently accelerated production of tests as labs process as many as 450,000 tests a day. As India reopens the economy, testing will be key to its wider success.

The intent of Tulips is to fulfil the critical national demand in nasal and throat swabs, a key component in fighting COVID-19 war and rely less on supplies from other countries, in these testing times. With rising number of COVID-19 cases, the company shifted focus to affordable swabs, as domestically produced swabs would cost one-tenth the imported swabs.

As the COVID-19 cases surpass 8.34 million globally, with more than 436,899 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University - the global ecosystem must work together in synergy to fight the virus.

“Shortage of key kits hurt COVID-19 diagnosis. And, enhanced testing is the only way out to tackle the novel coronavirus global pandemic till a cure or a vaccine is found. Tulips understands this well and is trying to ensure that it supplies Swabs to other countries in Asia & Africa as well. The situation also demands more innovation for finding faster and cheaper testing methods, to scale up the testing in our country. As swabs are going to be an integral part of any COVID-19 diagnostics test kit, we are willing to collaborate and partner with any Indian company, institute or innovators doing research on making the tests faster, cheaper, and may need to have special swabs developed,” said Rahul Jain, Partner, Tulips.

With a footprint across the world, Tulips products are exported to more than 15, quality-discerning, nations. State-of-the-art facilities, world-class quality standards, product consistency, and automated production lines, makes the company one of the lowest cost manufacturers in the world.

Incorporated in 1998, Tulips is one of the largest and the most qualitative manufacturer and exporter of personal hygiene products, like cotton buds, special swabs, cotton balls etc., in entire South Asia.
