* Semiconductor manufacturing technology leader aims to add silicon component manufacturing, broaden lab capabilities in the country
Prior to SEMICON India 2026, Lam Research Corp. (Nasdaq: LRCX), a leading global supplier of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and services, announced it intends to invest approximately INR 10,000 crores to add its first silicon component manufacturing facility in the country and augment its advanced research and development operations.
The planned investment reflects Lam's long-term approach to invest across key aspects of the semiconductor ecosystem in India. Lam has been a leader in the Indian semiconductor ecosystem for more than 25 years, including operating a large engineering hub and one of the country’s most advanced chip research and development (R&D) laboratories. During this time, the company also incorporated India into its global supply chain and trained thousands of individuals for the semiconductor industry through robust workforce development programs. The planned manufacturing investment represents the next phase of development to support customers worldwide as semiconductor complexity accelerates in the AI era.
The new manufacturing facility will support a vertically integrated process spanning silicon ingot production and processing for advanced semiconductor technologies and leading-edge nodes. The planned augmentation to R&D builds on Lam’s India Center for Engineering, which already supports Lam’s work for customers globally in key areas such as design, testing, validation, and next-generation technology development.
"India represents an important part of Lam's global innovation and growth strategy," said Rangesh Raghavan, corporate vice president and managing director, Lam Research India. "Our continuing expansion in India reflects our confidence in the country's talent, growing semiconductor ecosystem, and supportive policy environment. We remain committed to collaborating with the government, academia, suppliers, start-ups and other stakeholders to help accelerate semiconductor innovation that benefits the industry globally."
Lam intends to make the new investment over the next several years. The new manufacturing facility and augmented R&D operations are expected to create new opportunities for partnerships with local suppliers in India. Lam actively engages with local companies for specialized materials, precision components, gases, chemicals, metrology, and manufacturing services that are critical to the semiconductor industry.
High-tech talent development benefiting an entire ecosystem
Lam’s expansion plans are expected to bring specialized manufacturing expertise and capabilities to India, helping build skills that are critical to the future of the semiconductor industry. In addition to creating advanced engineering and high-technology manufacturing jobs, the investment aims to strengthen the country's talent base and contribute to developing a globally competitive semiconductor workforce.
Lam’s investment plans build on its ongoing workforce development efforts, including a partnership with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to increase access to semiconductor manufacturing education, with a goal of training up to 60,000 students over the next several years using Lam’s Semiverse® Solutions virtual platform*. Lam has also launched the Lam Research Skill Development Program to help aspiring workers to develop industry-relevant skills and broaden pathways into advanced manufacturing careers.
As the semiconductor industry enters a new era of innovation driven by AI, Lam continues to focus on increasing the velocity of innovation required to deliver the next generation of semiconductor technologies to its customers. Through investments in manufacturing, supply chain capabilities and advanced R&D the company is strengthening its global operations while helping accelerate the semiconductor technologies that will power the future.
