Students submitted their ideas under two overarching themes: ‘Community and Inclusion’ and ‘Environment and Sustainability’. The Youth Track submitted ideas under these broad themes, however, most of the ideas focused on tackling key issues such as education and resource access for less privileged communities, challenges in experiential learning, digital literacy, water conservation and arsenic pollution.

Apart from the main prizes at the event, two special awards were also presented during the ceremony, the ‘Social Media Champion Award’ and the ‘Goodwill Award’. Preator VR from School Track and BioD from Youth Track were awarded the Goodwill Awards that honoured audience choice winners. Both teams received INR 1 lakh as cash reward. Samsung remains committed to nurturing young innovators, equipping them with the tools and resources to transform their visions into reality. Over the past few weeks, experts from Samsung, FITT and IIT-Delhi worked closely with the top 10 teams, mentoring them as they developed innovative and groundbreaking solutions for real-world challenges. This mentorship helped the teams refine their ideas and guided them through developing functional prototypes. These prototypes were then presented to the jury during the Grand Finale.

This year, participants from both schools and colleges participated from Tier 2 and 3 cities and remote regions across India, from Imphal in Manipur to East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya and Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. With innovative ideas aimed at addressing local challenges, they sought to transform not only their communities but also contribute to solving broader national issues, driving positive change across the country using technology.

The campaign pays a tribute to the love and commitment with which these farmers work in their fields, to grow high quality coffee. It also highlights their association with Nestlé agronomists, who work closely with these farmers, as a part of the NESCAFÉ Plan.

The NESCAFÉ Plan, introduced in India in 2012 goes beyond coffee. It aims at developing good agricultural practices, sustainable management of landscapes, and enhancing biodiversity in coffee farms. It blends the valuable traditional knowledge of coffee cultivation with modern scientific practices to aid sustainable growth of coffee in the region. Nestlé India works closely with around 5,000 coffee farmers in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala through the NESCAFÉ Plan.

Talking about the campaign, Mr. Sunayan Mitra, Director, Coffee and Beverages business, Nestlé India, said “Behind every delightful cup of Nescafé, there are coffee farmers whose hard work and dedication contribute to the exceptional taste of our coffee. The coffee farmers are the backbone for our NESCAFÉ Plan. They have helped us gain immense consumer love and trust for our brands by upholding the safety and quality of our products. This campaign is a homage to their perseverance and dedication, and I hope that it will be appreciated by our consumers.”

Mr. Vidya Sankar, Senior Vice President, Dentsu Creative said “This campaign is centred on the hard work of coffee farmers and the collaborative work between Nestlé India and the coffee farmers. It also shines the spotlight on the contributions made by coffee farmers to our society and how they impact the consumer's experience while they enjoy a delicious cup of Nescafé Sunrise. Set amidst verdant green coffee plantations in Coorg, the film is an ode to every coffee farmer, the backbone of the coffee industry."

GTCR And Recognize To Acquire TRANZACT

* Innovative Leader in Insurance Distribution and Marketing Services to be Run by Existing Management Team, including Current President Andy Nelson

GTCR, a leading private equity firm, announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire TRANZACT, a leading direct-to-consumer insurance services company, in a corporate carve-out from WTW PLC ("WTW", NASDAQ: WTW), a leading global advisory, broking and solutions company. GTCR is investing in TRANZACT alongside Recognize, a technology services investment platform. Andy Nelson, President of TRANZACT, and the existing management team will continue to lead the business and partner with GTCR and Recognize. The transaction values TRANZACT at $632.4 million.

Headquartered in Fort Lee, NJ, TRANZACT provides a full suite of capabilities across marketing and demand generation, sales execution, post-sales engagement and technology solutions. The business currently serves as the platform of choice for several large insurance carrier partners and is the agent of record for over one million active insurance policies across Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and Life & Supplemental insurance markets.

GTCR and Recognize's investment will build on TRANZACT's strong performance and target areas of growth amongst its insurance carrier partners. Together, GTCR, Recognize and TRANZACT will implement a strategy to drive continued innovation, with additional capital available to help fund the expansion and enhancement of its services across this unique customer acquisition platform. As an independent company, TRANZACT will continue to focus on delivering best in class, reliable services and solutions across the insurance industry.

"We are excited to partner with Recognize, Andy and the talented team at TRANZACT and continue to build on their innovative platform," said David Donnini, Managing Director and Head of Business & Consumer Services at GTCR. "We have known Andy for many years and have always admired TRANZACT and their truly unique, data-driven marketing model for the insurance industry. Over the years, TRANZACT has developed deep, trusted partnerships with some of the industry's most recognized insurers and, along with its strong brand, has positioned itself well to continue to gain share as we look to expand and enhance its offering. Importantly, they have also established a reputation for exceptional service and quality to the end consumers."

"As the insurance marketplace evolves, TRANZACT will continue to play a critical role in helping carriers deliver quality service to their customers and better react to their evolving needs," said David Wasserman, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Recognize. "We are thrilled with the opportunity to partner with GTCR, and alongside Andy and this management team, which we have known for many years. Their ongoing leadership at TRANZACT will be invaluable as we look to further develop the company's capabilities, particularly their unique and specialized services offerings for the insurance markets."

Mr. Nelson, President of TRANZACT, will become CEO of the standalone business at closing, alongside the rest of the management team who will continue in their current roles. Mr. Nelson has been a senior executive with TRANZACT since 2003, President since 2016, and has spent his entire career in direct-to-consumer marketing and building deep expertise and relationships in the insurance sector.

GTCR has a longstanding relationship with Mr. Nelson, who currently serves as an independent director on the Board of Consumer Cellular, another portfolio company of the firm. Likewise, the Recognize leadership team was part of a group that had previously invested in TRANZACT before it was sold to WTW in 2019 and worked with Mr. Nelson closely during that time.

"Today marks an important milestone in TRANZACT's journey and we are excited about our future together with our new partners at GTCR and Recognize," said Mr. Nelson. "Over the last two decades, the TRANZACT team has worked tirelessly to build a leading insurance marketplace platform, known for quality service and innovative solutions. We are confident that in becoming an independent company, we will be able to continue to meet the needs of our insurance carrier partners and the consumers and drive growth across our business. We are incredibly grateful for the team at WTW for their support of our strategy and their partnership over the past five years."

"TRANZACT is a high-quality business, a leading provider in an area of the insurance market that we have followed for the last several years and know well," said Tom Ehrhart, Managing Director at GTCR. "Along with our partners at Recognize, we believe that TRANZACT's suite of services are well positioned for continued growth across the insurance landscape. Andy and his team are dynamic leaders, and we believe they are the right team to bring this company forward in a new chapter of independent growth."

The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2024, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

Can Artificial Intelligence (AI ) Truly Transform Developer Experience?

By Andrew Boyagi, Head of DevOps Evangelism, Atlassian

If your goal is to improve developer experience, your first step should always be to ask your developers how things can be improved

Product Marketing teams have been in overdrive for the past 12 months, talking loudly about the latest artificial intelligence advancements that will vastly improve developer experiences. And it’s working. Atlassian recently partnered with GetDX to survey 2,100 developers and their leaders; 100% of the leaders surveyed said they believe AI will improve their company’s developer experience within the next two years.

The CTOs I regularly speak with confirm this statistic. They all plan to invest heavily in AI products to improve DevEx. One CTO mentioned going “all in” on AI, allocating 90% of their developer experience budget to AI tools.

It’s fantastic to see so many CTOs focused on improving DevEx and investing in the latest technology to help their developers, but what if AI doesn’t improve developer experience? In our survey, two out of three developers say they aren’t experiencing significant productivity gains using AI tools.

AI Capabilities for Developers

Scanning the landscape for Developer AI tools reveals four standard AI capabilities for developers:

Code generation: using AI to write or help write code.

Documentation generation: using AI to write code or procedural documentation.

Pull request summaries: AI creates a summary of the changes contained within a Pull Request.

Unit test generation: AI automatically suggests or creates unit tests for changes in a Pull Request.

The above list of capabilities is quite impressive! The fact that 18 months ago, these capabilities weren’t available is a testament to the rapid innovation we’re seeing in AI. Developer adoption rates have been phenomenal, a clear indicator that these capabilities are helping developers daily.

These capabilities have one thing in common: They primarily relate to the coding part of a developer’s role — the part of the job they like. What gets in the way of a good developer experience?

Coding is the part of a developer’s role they enjoy. Yet, most of the AI capabilities available for developers aim to automate or drive efficiency in this part of their role. While this isn’t necessarily bad, it’s like telling a chef you’ve automated the cooking part of their role, and now all they need to do is the dishes. If we’re interested in improving the experience for developers, we should prioritize addressing the part of their role they don’t enjoy.

A generally accepted statistic for the time developers spend coding is 30%. Most of the AI technology available for developers is squarely focused on that 30% rather than the 70% of developers doing other, less desirable tasks. No one is suggesting developers should be spending 100% of their time coding, but if you ask a developer what gets in the way of a good experience, most items will come from the 70% of the time they’re not coding.

Studying industry surveys reveals some common complaints that are worth exploring:

Wait time is one of the most common complaints from engineers, who often talk about being blocked by other people or teams. This usually involves waiting for someone to review a Pull Request or to clarify information before they can proceed.

Cognitive load is another primary source of developer dissatisfaction. The need to look for information is a crucial source of increased cognitive load. According to the 2023 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, 25% of developers spend over an hour daily looking for information. This is enough to drive even the most stable of us loony. Imagine spending an hour every morning looking for your car keys before you could leave the house.

The top complaint in almost every developer survey is technical debt (tech debt). This stems from the eternal battle between Product Managers, who often prioritize releasing the next feature, and developers, who want to maintain a clean and healthy code base. It’s not a surprise that high levels of tech debt contribute to a poor developer experience.

Applied correctly, AI has the potential to improve DevEx in all of these areas significantly. If improving DevEx is the goal, we should remove the friction developers tell us they are encountering.

Developer Experience Can Be Improved by Using AI

Coding assistants and the other developer-focused AI capabilities I mentioned will likely enhance rather than improve DevEx. To be clear, developers should be given access to these tools; they want to use them, find them helpful, and, most importantly, expect access to them. However, these tools are unlikely to resolve the existing DevEx issues within your organization.

Improving DevEx starts with asking your developers what needs improvement. Once you have this list (which is likely to be extended), you can identify the best way to solve these challenges, which may include using AI.

For example, there’s a misconception that developers actually like removing tech debt, but this isn’t entirely accurate. Developers generally prefer problem-solving and delivering new features, but piles of tech debt slow them down and increase the likelihood of an incident. Atlassian has developed a capability called AutoFix, which scans source code repositories for common problems like stale feature flags. Once identified, developers are asked if they would like AI to fix the tech debt, in this case by removing the feature flags, or if they would like to schedule a time to fix it themselves.

Using AI to remove the developer toil associated with resolving tech debt improves one of the common challenges to a good DevEx. It allows developers to commit more time to tasks like releasing new features. We’ve had great feedback on AutoFix internally, and we’re working on making this available to customers later this year.

Get Started With Developer Experience

The currently available AI capabilities for developers are pretty impressive. Developers expect access to these tools to assist them with their daily tasks, which is a good enough reason to provide access to them. However, as impressive as they are, these capabilities don’t address existing challenges in developer experience.

If your goal is to improve developer experience, your first step should always be to ask your developers how things can be improved. If you ask them, they will tell you.

Once you know where improvements can be made, find the best solution to each problem, which may include using AI. As with any tool implementation, you should circle back with your developers and ask them if the solution actually improved things for them or if you need to iterate on it.

98% Of Chili Farmers Used Gracia Last Year – Godrej Agrovet

Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL) today said that 98% of Chili farmers used Gracia last year, an effective pest management solution for chili crops. Releasing the findings of the survey, which was carried in Chili markets across south, the company witnessed 57% of the farmers using Gracia between 15-35 DAT (Days After Transplanting).

“With Gracia offering a prolonged duration of control against thrips if chili crops are treated early, the findings clearly showcase that farmers are finding value in using Gracia early. Additionally, 71% of farmers we surveyed used the solution more than 2 times last year. This reiterates that Gracia is the most popular and go-to-brand for farmers,” said Rajavelu N.K, CEO, Crop Protection Business, Godrej Agrovet.

Gracia’s benefits extend beyond pest control. It enhances overall crop health, promoting better-established crops that lead to increased fruit production. The product’s quick knockdown of pests ensures pest-free chilis. Particularly notable is Gracia’s effectiveness in controlling thrips and lepidopteran pests, a major threat to chili crops. Early application prevents thrips build-up, providing long-lasting protection. Moreover, the use of Gracia results in healthier seedlings that require fewer resources, making crop management more efficient and economical for farmers.

Added Rajavelu, “Gracia’s translaminar action effectively controls both chewing and sucking pests, even those hiding under leaves. This comprehensive protection ensures that chili plants remain healthy throughout their critical development phases. Hence for optimal results, we recommend 2 applications of 160 ml of Gracia per acre – first within 15-25 DAT followed by a second application 10 days later.”

As the chili season approaches, Godrej Agrovet encourages farmers to “Start Healthy, Start with Gracia” for pest-free chilis, enhanced plant health, and prevention of thrips buildup.
