Tata Motors Receives 98 Patents in 2020; Continues Its Tryst For Innovation By Filing 80 Patents

Winning Over The Two Cs - COVID-19 And Cancer Across Indian Market


Esperer Onco Nutrition evidence based Responsible Nutrition (E2RN) hosted a virtual symposium on Vaccinations for cancer patients: What to know before the Corona vaccination on Tuesday, 12th January 2021, 7:00 PM, India. 

The host of this virtual discussion was Mr Raktim Chattopadhyay, Founder & CEO of Esperer Onco Nutrition with 10 speakers from the UK, USA, and India. Over 100 participants attended the symposium; the webinar was addressed to cancer patients and their family members along with relevant clinicians. The symposium offered a presentation of important topics such as, first-hand experience of tackling UK variant strain, COVID-19 vaccine and Cancer and India v/s USA & UK experience - difference and similarities. 

Dr. Vivek Shrivastav, Vice President Research & Development and Operations at Esperer Onco Nutrition said, “Not so incredibly, there’s a lot of confusion among cancer patients — as well as their oncologists and caregivers — as to whether the vaccine is a good idea or a bad idea for somebody dealing with cancer. Patients with cancer are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 because of the immunocompromising nature of cancer treatments. On top of that, progressing cancer itself depletes the immune system and leaves patients susceptible to infection. Cancer patients should be early in the vaccination process. Fundamentally, we should try to stop community transmission, and to focus on groups at high-risk for transmission and complications first. We should prioritize high-risk groups, but we also need to do it in a way that’s even-handed. We’re fighting a pandemic where cancer patients are at four-five-times greater risk for fatality than others. It’s a risk-benefit equation. Their risk from COVID-19 is exceptionally high and cancer cases should have a definite regimen of vaccination, which may further consolidate by carrying out scientific research, applied research and clinical studies.”

In general, vaccines are not recommended during chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Vaccines require a healthy immune system that can recognize and kill disease-causing germs. And it takes a healthy immune system at least 2 weeks from the time of vaccination to start recognizing and killing germs. That means vaccination timing is just as important as getting the vaccine itself.

Dr Purvish Parikh, Group Oncology Director Academic at Shelby Cancer and Research Institutes, Mumbai, said “We recommend that all cancer patients get vaccinated against COVID-19. This is in line with recommendations by important international Oncology societies. Vaccination should be taken even by those patients who have been previously exposures to the virus or have antibody titres. Timing of the vaccination need to take into consideration patient specific factors - like being on active chemotherapy, performances status, severity of uncontrolled comorbidity, and pregnant or lactating mothers.”

MyHealthcare And AliveCor Bring Heart Health In The Hands Of Indians

Stories of agility, resilience, and transformation at SpringOne

At our annual SpringOne user conference, many Tanzu Labs customers shared how they are tackling tough modernization initiatives, adopting modern practices such as DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering, and taking on large-scale agile transformations. Organizations that had invested in app modernization and in- house software development capabilities were better prepared to respond quickly to unprecedented challenges.

Nonprofit Carina’s founding executive director, Nidhi Mirani, shared how the COVID pandemic spurred the need for a new app connecting essential workers with licensed childcare providers. Mirani said that working alongside our team was “transformative” and highlighted the rapid delivery of usable releases, agile methods, and user-centered design that enabled her organization to release a fully functional app in just four weeks.

We heard from Albertsons Senior DevOps Manager Bhuvan Padakanti about Albertsons’ rapid shift from in-store purchasing to record-breaking online ordering and 10 times normal e-commerce traffic in the early months of the pandemic.

Padakanti recounted how Albertsons was prepared in part for this rapid shift to digital having previously partnered with Tanzu Labs to learn how to build cloud native apps, which enabled Albertsons to move from a legacy on-premise system to an entirely microservices-based e-commerce platform.

Customers including AirFrance KLM, State Farm, and BT shared impressive stories related to app modernization. And a panel of agile leaders from Comcast, Tesco Bank, and Bell Tracy discussed the critical role of management in successful transformation at scale.

Impactful solutions for the nonprofit sector

We’ve had the honor of continuing to work with nonprofit customers such as A21 and Carina through VMware Tanzu Act (formerly called Pivotal Act).

Building awesome software while working remotely

As the world went into lockdown due to the global pandemic, enterprises had to rapidly respond to dramatic changes impacting customer needs, employee experience, and available budget. While Tanzu Labs has many years of working with remote and distributed teams, the sudden move to “all remote” was a monumental shift for most of our customers and many of our own practitioners who were accustomed to co-located teams. Many practices, in fact, relied on the advantages of in-person communication and co-located teams. However, Tanzu Labs has a pedigree of thought leadership in software methodology going back several decades. Its practices are derived from certain core principles that form the basis of how to serve a fast-paced, software-centric business. So in response to the move to all-remote work, the team revisited those principles and reimagined practices that are sustainable when the team is remote but stay true to the underlying insights that have made Tanzu Labs so effective. It was by drawing on its depth of understanding on software that Tanzu Labs continued to serve customers successfully despite the challenging conditions. These are the core principles that form the foundation of Tanzu Labs and our practices:

In December, we announced that Tanzu Labs is now an AWS Partner Network Consulting Partner for app modernization and software development.
