Tata Trust’s Begins Hunt for Innovators & Entrepreneurs, Invites Entries for “Social Alpha Energy Challenge”

In a first-of-its-kind nationwide search, Tata Trusts’ Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (FISE) – which supports technology-based solutions for social impact through their lab-to-market journey – has announced the “Social Alpha Energy Challenge” to find high impact innovations that could catalyze system change in the field of energy.

With a focus on cleantech, sustainability and energy efficiency, the Social Alpha Energy Challenge aims to discover next-gen technology innovations that promise to unlock new solutions to India’s energy challenges or make existing energy networks smarter, cleaner and more affordable. In this ambitious hunt, the Challenge is inviting entries from innovators across various stages of the energy lifecycle - generation, transmission and distribution, storage, and consumption, in multiple sectors such as households, farm, industry, infrastructure, building, utility and transport.

The winners will be assessed on select parameters such as the breakthrough nature of the innovation, business viability, environmental sustainability, social impact, and scalability potential. The winners of the Energy Challenge will form the first cohort of enterprises for Tata Smart Energy Incubation Centre (TSEIC) - an incubator and start up accelerator being built in partnership between Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited and Tata Trusts.

A maximum of 10 winners will be selected to receive complete incubation support that will include:
·  6-18 months of access to the upcoming Tata Smart Energy Incubation Centre in New Delhi
·         Access to state-of-the-art lab facilities and world class-infrastructure
·         Access to test beds on the ground for trials and field testing
·         Strategy and go-to-market (GTM) support

Yes Bank Raises US$600 Million for 5 Year Tenor Under Their US$1 Billion MTN Program

YES BANK, India’s fourth largest private sector bank has successfully completed issuance of its maiden US$ 600 million bond issue in the international debt markets. The Bond issuance is for a tenor of 5 years and is rated Baa3 by Moody’s Investors Service. The Bond will be listed on the London Stock Exchange International Securities Market (LSE ISM), the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading SGX), and the India International Exchange IFSC at GIFT City, Gandhinagar.

Having initially launched the deal at 150 basis points over the treasury yield, the Bank was able to achieve a final pricing of 130 basis points over equivalent 5 year U.S treasury yield which is the lowest spread over Treasury for a debut fixed rate International bond issuance by an Indian bank with a minimum issue size of US$ 500 million. CLSA Ltd, HSBC, JP Morgan Securities, Merrill Lynch International, Nomura, Standard Chartered and YES BANK (IFSC) acted as Joint Book Running Lead Managers (BRLM’s) for the offering.

BSE’s India International Exchange (“India INX”)  welcomes YES BANK’s maiden USD 600 million bond issue on its Global Securities Market (“GSM”), India’s first capital raising platform for international investors in any currency, located at the Gujarat International Finance Tec City (“GIFT City”) IFSC.

The bonds received an overwhelming response from international investors and saw a final order book, at a spread of 130 basis points, being oversubscribed by >1.83x from over 90 accounts. In terms of investor type, the split was 46% to asset managers, 38% to banks, 11% to insurance companies and 5% to private banks. In terms of geographic distribution, Asian accounts received 58% of the allocation, EMEA received 41% and offshore US accounts received 1%.

The proceeds will be used to fund the bank’s IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) in Gift City and expand IBU’s rapidly growing business opportunities. The bond issuance is aligned to the Government of India’s commitment to building a high-tech financial hub in the country.

Goa Carnival, Food & Cultural Festival at Four New Routes from February 9-13, 2018


The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa presents the highly anticipated, Goa Carnaval from February 10 to 13 and the Goa Food & Cultural Festival from February 9 to 13 at D.B. Bandodkar Grounds, Campal, Panaji - Goa. The float parade will be flagged off on Saturday, February 10 in the capital city of Goa – Panaji. For the first time, a new route has been selected and the parade will take place along the Miramar – Dona Paula Route.

The stage is all set to herald Goa’s biggest celebration – the Goa Carnaval, and thousands of tourists are expected to flock in to witness this grand spectacle. The streets across Goa will be adorned with colourful buntings, banners, masks and themed décor. During the vibrant 4 day Carnaval, float parades will take place at major cities in Goa; Panaji (February 10), Margao (February 11), Vasco (February 12) and Mapusa (February 13).

This year, Bruno Azaredo (57) from Utorda, South Goa has been chosen to lead the Carnaval Parades as ‘King Momo’. Azaredo has been in this industry for several years and has participated in previous carnaval festivities as a dancer. King Momo is a mythological figure, who is symbolic when it comes to carnaval celebrations and he will declare the decree of “Eat, Drink and Make Merry” during his 4 day reign. The parade will showcase diverse participants under various categories, displaying different themes and messages. The total prize money for the four-day event has also been increased.

The Goa Food & Cultural Festival will be inaugurated on Friday, 9 February. Celebrate five days of fun, flavor and fiesta, as the Food & Cultural Festival brings together a host of professionals from the tourism & hospitality industry; hoteliers, restaurateurs, beverage brands and lifestyle outlets to showcase their premium offerings. The five day festival promises an exciting line-up of performances, activities and events.
