Manipal Hospitals Telemedicine for Infosys Employees at its Electronics City Campus

In an endeavour to help people get access to world class healthcare services, Manipal Hospitals recently launched a virtual clinic for the welfare of the employees of Infosys at Electronics City campus. This solution is expected to benefit employees of Infosys immensely. It will not only provide hassle-free quality healthcare services at reduced costs, but will also pave the way for a healthier and more productive workforce.

The deployment of the telemedicine facility is to ensure that patients do not postpone treatments for fear of losing time at work in order to keep up with their appointments. Factors such as traffic and long distance play a critical role in people not tending to the needs of their health, which can lead to complications later on. This facility in the comfort of the office premises will enable ease and convenience of seeking consultations and medical advice. The clinic will also offer advice on the maladies of family members of employees. Patients have access to specialty offerings such as oncology that provide them the choice of a second opinion and enables the doctor to choose the best line of treatment for critical health issues such as cancer.

Present at the occasion, Dr. Satish Amarnath, Consultant, Occupational Healthcare (OHC), Manipal Hospitals said, “In this era where young population form the primary workforce of the companies, postponing visit to doctor either for routine check-up or for that matter even condition management like diabetes, high blood cholesterol, blood pressure, obesity  and of course added to this other endocrine disorders can be critical for managing good health.

He further added, “This forms a heady mixture for the life style disorders to start ravaging the body and make disease assume serious dimensions like heart attack or stroke. In addition to this diseases like diabetes will denude the organs of the body like kidneys, functioning of heart etc.  The omnipresent stress is a banal factor which pressurizes all of us in different times, this could go a long way in the mitigation and ensure a person is made to strike a work and life balance.”

In an endeavor to ensure that young population remains healthy, enabling virtual clinic at site with technology has been linked to the virtual consultations like stethoscope, digital high resolution cameras and devices like glucometer, pulse oxymeter and blood pressure and other vitals recording devices. This in turn will enable the doctor to get a picture of the patient with the history provided to arrive at a diagnosis. The hand holding by the clinic doctor enables the specialist to give advice. Also laboratory tests and sexual health counselling is a factor which can be delivered with this modality.

Gururaj Deshpande, Vice President, Infosys & DC Head, Bangalore, who inaugurated the facility, said, “Employee health is a critical element in ensuring productivity of companies and we at Infosys are extremely happy to pioneer this endeavour with Manipal Hospitals. Employee engagement and well-being are directly linked, and we ensure that it is balanced, in order to create a thriving, living workplace that people will be eager to join and stay on.”

This association with Infosys will provide Manipal Hospitals a further thrust in its pursuit of excelling in clinical care and patient-centricity. The Hospital is focusing on Digital Health, which is a blend of technology and healthcare, with an aim to enhance the latter’s efficiency, as well as tailoring medicines to individual needs and requirements. Manipal Hospitals will be launching more such virtual clinics in near future.

Tata Communications and Formula 1 Complete World’s First Truly Live 360º Video Trial at F1 Singapore Grand Prix

Tata Communications and Formula 1 have conducted a test of truly live 360º video at the 2017 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix to show how the F1 racing experience could be augmented for fans worldwide by enabling them to experience the action in and around the circuit almost as if they were there. To-date, any 360º video experiments in sports have been hampered by a 30-second delay between the 360º video and live TV feeds, preventing a widespread adoption of the technology. This proof-of-concept by Tata Communications and Formula 1 is the first time when the live 360º video feeds and TV broadcast have been shown in complete sync.

There were two 360º cameras at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore in the trackside and paddock to show how viewers at home could immerse themselves in the world of F1 and experience these exclusive areas through a virtual reality (VR) like environment via the Official F1 App. For example, during a Grand Prix build-up, fans could use their tablet to access a live 360º video feed from the paddock and see the biggest names in the sport. Or, during a race, as a driver pulls into the pits for a tyre change, fans could complement the action on TV with a 360º view of everything that is happening in the pit lane in real-time.

“We’ve done this test to show how a fan could watch Lewis, Sebastian or any other drivers coming into the pits on TV, grab their tablet and get a second, completely in sync 360º view of everything going on around him while he is there - not 30 seconds after he has driven off!” said John Morrison, Chief Technical Officer, Formula 1. “In a sport like F1 where every millisecond matters, there are huge opportunities to empower fans to take control of key Grand Prix moments and create their unique, personalised race experiences through the powerful combination of live TV and 360º video.”

“We want to unleash the full potential the F1® fan experience through the latest digital technologies,” said Sean Bratches, Managing Director, Commercial Operations, Formula 1. “Through this proof of concept, we’ve explored how live 360º video, and next VR, could transport fans from across the globe to the middle of the thrilling world of F1 and enable them to immerse themselves in each Grand Prix like never before.”

The live 360º video proof-of-concept follows close collaboration between Tata Communications and Formula 1 during the last five seasons to lay the foundations for the sport’s digital transformation, testing in action technologies such as UHD video and live broadcasting over the Internet (OTT), which could enable fans to experience F1 in new ways too.

“This proof of concept shows the potential of live 360º video to augment the F1 TV viewing experience and bring VR mainstream in live sports and entertainment,” said Mehul Kapadia, Managing Director of Tata Communications’ F1 Business. “Eliminating the delay in 360º video means that, for the first time, it’s possible to offer fans truly live 360º video experiences on a global scale. This will enable sports and entertainment organisations to engage with their audiences in new ways and generate new revenue streams – helping the 360º video and VR market achieve its US$60 billion potential.”

The live 360º video feeds from the two cameras were distributed from the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore back to Europe using Tata Communications’ Media Ecosystem, a complete, integrated set of media solutions. It includes the Video Connect service, which brings together traditional video contribution and IP connectivity globally in the cloud, underpinned by Tata Communications’ global network.

Tata Communications is the Official Connectivity Provider to Formula 1, enabling the sport to seamlessly reach its tens of millions of fans across the globe.

EOS’s IPCM M Pro for Easy and Secure Material Handling for 3D Printing

EOS, the world's leading technology supplier in the field of industrial 3D printing of metals and polymers, introduces the material handling solution IPCM M pro for its well-established EOS M 290 system. For this purpose, the EOS M 290 – a highly productive system for the Additive Manufacturing (AM) of metal components – is equipped with a special process chamber door with coupling points to connect with the IPCM M pro and material containers. The combination of system and periphery enables users to convey material easy, fast and safe out of the system, sieve it and refill it into the system – thus, simplifying industrial 3D printing as an established manufacturing method overall.

Closed process chain for efficient material handling

In Additive Manufacturing, a laser beam fuses powdered material at points defined by computer-generated component design data. With the IPCM M pro, material not fused during the building process can be directly conveyed out of the AM system – without opening the process chamber door and therefore without the operator coming into direct contact with the material. A vacuum pump conveys the powder out of the system and into the IPCM M pro, where it is sieved under inert gas within the module at a throughput of 120 kilograms of material in 30 minutes – 50 percent faster than previous solutions. Powder treated in this way can be used for a new building process, the powder cycle starts anew.

For the user, this semi-automated, dust-free material handling within the process chamber of the AM system has clear advantages in terms of health and safety as well as operability, as the risk of powder contact is minimized. This makes a more comfortable protective equipment possible for the operator without compromising safety in any way. At the same time, even large volumes of material can be sieved and conveyed more quickly and the manual tasks are both fewer and simpler. Moreover, the IPCM M pro module is mobile, which means it can be efficiently used for several systems. All of these points contribute towards additionally improving user-friendliness and productivity of Additive Manufacturing.

Proven solution for entering industrial 3D printing

With the EOS M 290 system and the IPCM M pro module, companies are provided with the right solution for a swift entry into the world of industrial 3D printing as an established manufacturing technology. The EOS M 290 system features a reproducible high part quality, a broad range of validated materials and processes, and extensive software solutions for data preparation and quality management. Currently installed well over 500 times worldwide, the EOS M 290 is one of the most successful AM systems for processing metal materials that the market has to offer. With the IPCM M pro module, EOS expands this established AM system by including the option of particularly easy and safe material handling. Together with the comprehensive range of consulting services that EOS provides, companies have access to a holistic portfolio of solutions that enables them to successfully enter the world of 3D printing with a short learning curve.

Dr. Tobias Abeln, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) at EOS: “Industrial 3D printing has proven its worth as a manufacturing method across industries and is being increasingly used for serial production. Companies should therefore consider now how they could make best use of the technology to strengthen their business. The EOS portfolio gives companies one single source for all the elements they need to successfully set up and leverage Additive Manufacturing to meet the challenges of production with an established, future-proof technology.”

EOS is presenting its EOS M 290 and IPCM M pro at the EMO Hannover 2017.

From September 18–23, 2017, EOS will be at the EMO at stand D52 in hall 27, showcasing its EOS M 290 system and the IPCM M pro module, supplemented by numerous applications that have been successfully realized using EOS Additive Manufacturing technology.
