In line with its unwavering commitment to contribute to Skill India Mission, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ATME College of Engineering [ATMECE], Mysuru, Karnataka. TKM through its training arm, Toyota Learning and Development India has initiated the tie-up with ATMECE. The initiative is focused on sharing Toyota’s best practices with the faculty, bridge the industry-academia gap and equip students with employable skills.
In the ever-evolving skilling needs, TKM has been at the forefront in providing ‘Lifelong Learning’ to all its stakeholders including employees to help them achieve their fullest potential. People are the most important asset at Toyota, hence developing people forms the fulcrum of the company’s philosophy. The ‘Toyota Way’ focuses on becoming better by sharpening the skills of every person and continue the quest for improvement by encouraging both incremental and breakthrough innovative thinking.
Sharing his thoughts on the tie-up, Mr. G. Shankara, Vice President, Human Resources and Services Group, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “We believe that the success of Toyota comes from our people. We are a people-oriented company. In this perspective, we take care of the holistic well-being of every member by developing their skill, knowledge, and attitude from a mid-to-long-term perspective. Through this initiative, we would like to share Toyota’s best practices to the youth which will enable them to become skilled technicians,"
Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Basavaraj L, Principal, ATMECE said, “We are happy to associate with Toyota Kirloskar Motor. We aim to develop our students in line with our vision of ‘Molding better tomorrow through educational, cultural and sports excellence.’ It is time to create a nurturing environment where industry and academia can work together and lay the foundation for economic progress. Together, we can enhance the abilities and prospects of young students with a spirit to constantly learn, share skill, knowledge and transform them to industry-ready technicians with desired skillsets and competencies”.
“The course comprises 90 per cent practical exposure to Toyota’s skill practices and 10 per cent emphasis on theoretical aspects. A total of 180 hours of the syllabus is planned under this program, of which, 110 hours will be imparted at TKM’s factory premises and 70 hours will be covered in the college”, Dr. Basavaraj added.
Under the MoU, the program will focus on developing the faculty and students from ATMECE. Students will be trained based on a semester-wise skill enhancement plan which includes topics like lean manufacturing principles, xEV technologies, automobile technology, industrial safety, environment management system, total quality management, supply chain management, automobile welding, car painting, mechatronics, automation and robotics, etc.
TKM trainers are certified by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), Japan and Asia-Pacific Global Production Center (AP-GPC), Thailand. Further, Toyota Master Class Series and Certificate Courses will also be made available to the students to help hone their skills.
