Pharma companies are increasingly relying on patient-level data to address patient outcomes and benefits by tracking end-to-end treatment journeys and making informed decisions to ensure the timely availability of medicine. As per a report by Allied Market Research, the global healthcare analytics market size is projected to reach $96.90 BN by 2030. However, the massive volume of unstructured data and the usage of primitive methods of recording these data limits the quality of cure for an existing and a new patient. The hackathon entailed bringing out innovative data science models to solve the problem.

By supporting academic institutes in these events, Axtria endeavors to support youth in sharpening their coding and programming skills and learning possibilities of these skills in the world of healthcare with real impact. The participants of the Axtria-sponsored KDAG Hackathon were required to use innovative coding approaches to analyze a huge volume of unstructured data to bring solutions to support faster decision-making that impacts patient care.

PhonePe Becomes India’s First Fintech Platform To Enable Cross-Border UPI Payments

PhonePe, India’s largest digital payment company, today announced that it has launched support for 'UPI international' payments. This feature allows PhonePe's Indian users traveling abroad to instantly pay foreign merchants using UPI. The current launch supports all international merchant outlets in UAE, Singapore, Nepal and Bhutan that have a local QR code. Users will be able to make payments in the foreign currency directly from their Indian bank- just like they do with international debit cards. PhonePe is the first fintech app to launch this feature in India.

UPI international is designed to facilitate safe and easy transactions for millions of Indians traveling overseas. Historically, Indian customers needed to use a foreign currency, or their credit or forex cards to pay at international merchant outlets. With this feature, they can now use their Indian Bank account to pay using UPI. Over the course of this year, NPCI in collaboration with NIPL (NPCI International Payments Limited) plans to roll out UPI International to more countries, while also enabling greater merchant acceptance in the regions where this feature is currently live.

Speaking on the development, Rahul Chari, CTO and Co-Founder of PhonePe said, “Over the past six years, all over India we have been lucky to experience the UPI payments revolution transforming our daily lives. UPI international is the first major step in letting the rest of the world experience UPI too. I am sure this launch will prove to be a gamechanger and will completely transform the way Indians traveling overseas pay at merchant outlets abroad. PhonePe has always prided itself in being the first TPAP to take new UPI features to the market, and this time is no different. We are glad that PhonePe is leading this change. The entire world needs to experience UPI!”

PhonePe users can activate their UPI linked bank account for UPI international at the merchant location, or prior to their international trip, via the PhonePe App. The flow is secure and will require the customer to enter their UPI pin in order to activate the service.

About PhonePe:

PhonePe was founded in December 2015, and has emerged as India’s largest payments app, enabling digital inclusion for consumers and merchants alike. With 43.5 crore (435+ Million) registered users, one in four Indians are now on PhonePe. The company has also successfully digitized ~3.5 crore (~35 Million) offline merchants spread across Tier 2,3,4 and beyond, covering 99% pin codes in the country. Clix Capital Eyes Big Turnaround, Aims For INR 100 Crore Profit In FY24

* Targets an AUM of INR5000 crore by the end of this fiscal and INR9000 crore by FY25

Clix Capital Services Pvt Ltd (‘Clix Capital’) – one of India’s leading non-banking financial services companies, under a new leadership has made huge strides in turning around its business this year.  Challenged by COVID and the associated lock-downs, several NBFCs and lending institutions struggled to manage growth and asset quality, and Clix was no different.  However, over the past 18 months, it has turned profitable owing to its sharp focus on key businesses driving India’s growth trajectory, such as MSMEs, Healthcare and School Financing. With this pivot towards sustainable growth, Clix is eyeing a profit of INR 100 crore in FY24.

The post-pandemic period saw massive pent-up demand amongst sectors severely impacted due to COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdowns, such as travel & tourism, education, healthcare and automobiles. Clix Capital diligently utilized the COVID-induced disruption as an opportunity to reassess its business strategy as well as digitalize its core-operating model at scale.

This singular focus played an instrumental role in helping the brand evolve as a dedicated digital MSME lender. Backed by deep domain expertise in Healthcare and School Financing and its ability to forge seamless partnerships with fintech partners who bring in specific capabilities, Clix is now positioned strongly to ride the growth wave.  Aided by a young, agile and resilient leadership team under its new CEO, Rakesh Kaul, Clix is receiving huge recognition for the pace at which it has bounced back to scale and sustainable profitability.

Clix Capital is poised to cross an AUM (Assets under Management) of INR5000 crore by the end of this fiscal and aims to surpass INR 9000 crore by FY25. By servicing consumers and MSMEs, Clix has loaned more than INR 18,000 crore to date. Most of the company’s disbursements have gone to underserved MSMEs who have received a lion’s share of these funds. Clix is committed to addressing the huge credit gap hindering the growth of MSMEs through products customised for their needs and enabling credit by leveraging technology and alternate data in assessing them.

Mr Anil Chawla, Founder, Clix Capital commented, “Ever since our inception, we have been redefining the lending space in India by creating products and services that meet the financial needs of customers. We are driven by the vision of enabling financial inclusion for all underserved segments. Under the exemplary leadership of our new CEO, Rakesh Kaul, and a resilient young leadership team, the company has carved its niche in focused business segments in line with India’s growth trajectory in the MSME, Healthcare and Education space. Providing credit for the growth of these segments is imperative if India is to realise its ambition of becoming a US$5 trillion economy by 2025.”

A sustained focus on MSMEs in the healthcare and education space has helped the lender witness a 4X volume growth in the past 12 months. The core retail AUM growth was 1.4X, supported by a strong growth of 1.8X in debt raising.

On its ambitious turn-around target for the year, Mr Rakesh Kaul, CEO, Clix Capital noted, “Today, Clix is powering ahead in its chosen segments, backed by unparalleled technology and strong distribution capabilities. While we will continue investing in digitalization with an emphasis on agility and automation, moving ahead we would also be focusing on developing a strong co-lending ecosystem to supplement the debt raise needed to fund our growth ambitions.”

From 5% in March 2022, the company’s GNPAs stood at less than 3% in October, with a target of closing this financial year at around 2%. It has also drastically increased its collection efficiency, which is now better than the pre-pandemic levels – rising from 88% collection efficiency in September 2021 to 96% in September 2022.

Mr Utsav Baijal, Partner & Head of India Private Equity at Apollo and the largest investor at Clix Capital said, “Clix Capital has benefited greatly under the new leadership team led by Rakesh, and they have helped create a performance-oriented culture and brought an intense focus on execution. Given the company’s strong capital base, it was able to absorb COVID-induced portfolio losses smoothly and is well positioned to fully pivot back to profitable expansion.  More importantly, we believe that this turnaround is sustainable and we have a path to double digit ROE as we scale this business further.”

Technology has been a key enabler in the growth of fintechs in India, thanks to the digital revolution happening by building virtual highways and the India stack infrastructure. As technology continues to obliterate barriers, Clix has been leveraging it to create cutting-edge solutions for customers and build a new-age NBFC promoting financial inclusion. Technology has been Clix’s biggest capital expenditure since its inception. One of the company’s greatest strengths is its ability to apply data analytics across risk, underwriting, collections and client growth. It has also made major investments in ML (machine learning) engines to keep refining tech capabilities, which has resulted in optimizing risk-reward decisions. The platform today is extremely agile and, like a Lego box, it can plug and play to stitch new partnerships and operate seamlessly in an ever-changing regulatory landscape.

Godrej Democratises Household Insecticide Formats Through Breakthrough Innovation

·         Biggest move to democratise safe mosquito repellents – making it affordable for lower income consumers

·         Introduces world’s most affordable solution to eradicate dengue

·         Goodknight Mini and HIT No-Gas Spray unveiled – cheapest Liquid vaporizer and instant kill spray solutions in the world

·         Aim to target 100 million households who currently use unsafe and unregulated formats like incense sticks

India takes a giant leap in the global fight against mosquito-borne diseases. Two homegrown innovations; the world’s lowest cost liquid mosquito repellent device and a no-gas instant mosquito–kill spray developed by Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), was launched in the presence of experts from the National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control, Malaria No More India, Fortis Hospital Noida, among others.

Branded Goodknight Mini Liquid and HIT No-Gas Spray, these innovations make safe & smoke free mosquito protection accessible for lower income consumers. Many of whom today use unsafe and unregulated high smoke incense sticks. Doctors caution against using these spurious repellent incense sticks as they may cause bronchitis, asthma, reactive airways disease, and other conditions. Till now, regulated and safe non-smoke solutions, while widely known, were only available at higher prices and with features that did not suit the needs of these consumers.

GCPL understood these needs in depth and have developed innovations with breakthrough R&D. Firstly, by recognizing that many lower income households have high mosquito infestation through the night and therefore need a consistent high repellent effect. This resulted in the engineering of Goodknight Mini as a single mode machine giving high all-night efficacy. Priced at just INR 50 (Repellent Machine + Refill) and refills for INR 35/-, this solution only costs INR 2.5 for a night’s use. With electrification in India crossing 95%+ milestone (as per The National Family Health Survey – 5 report released in March 2022), the device is expected to gain wide adoption.

Secondly, because lower income households have relatively smaller rooms, expensive LPG based aerosol sprays designed for large spread in big rooms were not suitable. GCPL took inspiration from no-gas deodorants and developed HIT No-Gas Spray, an innovative instant mosquito-kill, water-based spray for as low as INR 1.5 per use occasion. As per the tests undertaken by GCPL, HIT No-Gas Spray kills mosquitoes faster than spurious incense sticks, while being completely safe & smoke-free.

Commenting on the affordable innovations, Sudhir Sitapati, MD & CEO, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), said, “We have made great progress so far to lessen the impact of mosquito-borne diseases. The way forward, however, calls for empowering people especially in small cities, towns, and rural areas.  Liquid repellents & aerosols are the most effective solution against mosquitoes, but they remained largely inaccessible to lower income households due to high pricing. We at GCPL, are proud to introduce the Goodknight Mini and HIT No-Gas Spray. These innovations bring down the cost of liquid repellent and spray categories in India by upto 50% and thus make them accessible for everyone. With these innovations, we are democratising safe mosquito repellents for lower income consumers. Supporting the government's vision of easing the nation's health burden is our greater commitment.”

Speaking as part of a panel discussion at the launch event, Pratik Kumar, Country Director, Malaria No More India, opined, “Mosquito-borne diseases, particularly Malaria, has been a public health issue and our goal should be its complete eradication. If we are to enable our Prime Minister's vision of a Malaria free by 2030, we need a different strategy that goes beyond prevention and ensures elimination. New age tools and technologies will play a vital role. Private health providers have a major role to play. Malaria elimination needs all sections joining hands to focus on a disease that needs more attention. We must develop new solutions, high-end technology to accelerate access and timely last-mile intervention. More importantly, enabling lower income groups with low-cost solutions in high endemic zones should be a key focus area amongst the next steps.”

“Factors such as climate change have led to increased occurrence of malaria and dengue, leading to a significant rise in the disease burden on the country. While the medical fraternity researches and develops advanced treatments to aid quick recovery, it also becomes important for people to adopt prevention strategies to safeguard themselves, in this case, from mosquito-borne diseases. Although the general public is aware of the need for mosquito protection, they frequently turn to dangerous and unregulated alternatives like repellent incense sticks/ agarbattis, which can lead to more diseases and respiratory illnesses. Although these repellent incense sticks are less expensive, few people are aware of their detrimental effects on health. Thus, Innovation and democratisation of practical, cost-efficient solutions that guarantee everyone's protection are urgently needed”, added, Dr.Rahul Sharma, Additional Director – Pulmonology & Critical Care, Fortis Hospital, Noida.

GCPL remains committed towards reducing the impact of vector-borne diseases in the country. Through its flagship brands like Goodknight and HIT, the company has over the years introduced many innovations across formats.

In 2016, GCPL also launched its CSR effort, the Elimination of Vector-Borne Endemic Diseases (EMBED) Project – in sync with India’s national goal of malaria elimination by 2030. This program is being implemented by Family Health India (FHI) in collaboration with NGO partners and the Health Department of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. EMBED aims to reduce morbidity and mortality due to malaria, dengue, and chikungunya in high burden areas. To date EMBED has been implemented in 9 districts of Madhya Pradesh, 4 districts in Uttar Pradesh and 2 districts in Chhattisgarh reaching over 5 lakh households across 2,000+ villages. GCPL’s EMBED program has been successful in creating a scalable model that can help high-burden villages of India achieve the goal of malaria elimination by 2030.

With continued efforts to bring about a larger change, GCPL’s new low-cost innovation support the government’s vision of a nation that is free of vector-borne diseases.
