Cuemath Hosts the Biggest Mathematics Carnival for Kids in Bangalore

Namma Bengaluru witnessed the biggest ever mathematics carnival hosted by Cuemath  - India's leading home-based yesterday, after-school learning program for mathematics. From math learning tools to intuitive puzzles and games, this mathematics carnival was thoughtfully designed to make sure that every child (from KG – 8th grade) enjoyed the process of math learning at the event. The event took place at Elaan Convention Centre, JP Nagar and was attended by over 5000 people. (3000+ children along with their parents).

In the spirit of Independence Day, Cuemath has found a reason to also celebrate 'freedom from the fear of math'. This year, our Independence Day, 15th August, is also a special date that comes only once in 100 years. It is a Pythagorean Triplet. So how does August 15, 2017 really become a Pythagorean triplet? Pythagorean triplet is sum of the square of the first two sides equivalent to the square if the third side. So, 152 + 82 = 172

Organized against the backdrop of a mathematical coincidence, which was observed on August 15, 2017, this mathematics carnival by Cuemath was one of a kind. To build the enthusiasm and excitement, Cuemath curated some brain cracking math learning tools and puzzles for children between KG and 8th grade that challenged their creativity, imagination, thinking skills, and social skills. Some of the key activities included, Fraction Hopscotch, Arithmetic Spinner, Go Bananas, Play with Geometry, Code Decode and Math Jigsaw.

Manan Khurma, Founder and CEO at Cuemath said, “This is a first of its kind math carnival that Bangalore has ever witnessed. There's mathematics in everything around us. And as people who celebrate math, we're only too pleased to note that this year our independence day also has an interesting mathematical coincidence. In the spirit of our Independence Day, we wanted to showcase the many ways in which the fear of mathematics can be conquered and what better way than organizing a fun filled carnival; bringing kids under one roof with interesting games and puzzles and helping them experience the fascinating side of math in an engaging and non-competitive environment”.

Commenting on Cuemath Pythagoras Fest 2017, Shereena, Principal, Sunshine School, said, “Cuemath has a lot of scope for kids because kids learn best when they are having fun. At Cuemath its about engaging children to learn mathematics the right way. 26 of my students accompanied me all the way from Kanakapura to be a part of this engaging carnival. I’m sure my students learnt a lot and I hope to use some of these activities in my school as well. This result is proof of the efficiencies that active learning can bring and thereby help children experience the engaging side of mathematics”.

Started in 2013, Cuemath is a home-based, active math learning program for kids between KG to 8th Grade. Combining the power of technology and personal teaching, Cuemath offers a unique curriculum that ensures a holistic learning experience through workbooks, math boxes, puzzle cards and a tablet. Cuemath’s self-paced program is setting a unique precedence for math teaching and learning as it challenges its traditional means of rote learning formulas, restricting curriculum to a fixed syllabus and focusing purely on scoring.

The future ahead is driven by technology. In just a decade from now, the skill that will truly matter is one’s ability to solve complex problems where math will surely play a huge role. Thus, one needs to begin now and empower children to go beyond the mark/score system and enable them with the ability to think logically and apply an analytical approach to arrive at answers.

ASUS ROG Launches ‘Zephyrus’ Gaming Laptop Priced at Rs 2,99,990 in Bengaluru

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has launched the Zephyrus, the world’s slimmest gaming laptop powered by a 7th Generation Intel Core i7 (Kaby Lake) processor and the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics with Zephyrus features the Windows 10 Creators Update, which improves the performance of PC games via the all-new Windows Game Mode, and makes it easier to perform native game-streaming with Beam, Microsoft’s streaming service. The new gaming laptop is available in the city from September 2017 at its three flagship gaming centres and also at the 80 odd ASUS stores in the country.
The laptop will be unveiled and showcased for the first time in India on August 20, 2017 at the Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru on the sidelines of ROG Masters South Asia finale. The mega event will also witness around 1500+ gamers who have pre-registered to attend the event.
Priced at Rs 2,99,990, the 15.6-inch Zephyrus features an ultra-slim profile and incorporates the ROG-exclusive Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) — a specially designed cooling system. It also features customizable ASUS Aura RGB lighting effects and a super-fast 120Hz panel with wide-view technology, 100 percent sRGB color gamut and NVIDIA G-SYNC for breathtaking gaming visuals.
“ROG aims to create laptops that are slimmer, cooler, quieter and more powerful than ever before — to fully address the needs of today’s highly mobile gamers”, said  Peter Chang, Regional Head – South Asia & Country Manager, ASUS India.
Asus ROG Zephyrus is one of the first few laptop to employ NVidia’s new Max-Q design technology. The notebook’s keyboard is ergonomically designed to provide optimum comfort and typing accuracy, claims Asus officials.
Specifications
Max-Q technology: An integral part of NASA’s mission to launch man into space, is defined as the point at which the aerodynamic stress on a rocket in atmospheric flight is maximized. Thus, the design of the rocket is precision-engineered around Max-Q. NVIDIA has applied a similar philosophy to the design of gaming laptops, enabling OEMs to build laptops that are 3x thinner with up to 3x more performance of previous generation.  With Max-Q designed laptops, gamers can experience high-fidelity gaming and high-resolution entertainment whenever and wherever they want it. Max-Q designed laptops support the entire GeForce gaming platform, which includes the latest gaming technologies, Game Ready drivers, NVIDIA G-SYNC display technology, VR, 4K gaming, and more.
ROG-exclusive design and cooling system: ROG Zephyrus is cooled by an exclusive Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) that runs cooler and quieter without sacrificing performance. AAS incorporates unique AeroAccelerator (AA) technology that increases the speed and efficiency of airflow through the laptop. The fan’s 3D-curved surface cover and accelerator guides enhance airflow and move heat away from the components more efficiently. When Zephyrus is opened, a portion of the bottom of the chassis flexes to increase the airflow volume by 20 percent and further increase air circulation. AAS maximizessystem stability as well as gaming and thermal performance, and it allows full utilization of the CPU and GPU, so gamers can engage in marathon sessions without fear of interruption.
Perfected gaming keyboard with Aura RGB lighting, innovative touchpad with 10-key functionality: ROG Zephyrus features a keyboard positioned at the front of the chassis — a design that allows better cooling of internal components while providing a more comfortable and familiar experience for gamers accustomed to desktop keyboards. ASUS Aura RGB lighting technology provides dynamic and customizable lighting effects over the entire keyboard, as well as separately highlighted customizable effects for the WASD and QWER key groups, allowing users to create a gaming ambience that matches the feel of their game. Anti-ghosting keys ensure commands are instantaneously and correctly interpreted — even when up to 30 keys are pressed simultaneously. The keys have been ergonomically designed to provide optimum comfort and typing accuracy. Zephyrus positions the touchpad to the right of the keyboard and also integrates a 10-key function that is easily activated by a hot key. When activated, a red backlight illuminates the 10-key functionality.
WhisperMode Technology: NVIDIA also introduced its silent NVIDIA WhisperMode technology, which makes laptops run much quieter while gaming. WhisperMode intelligently paces the game’s frame rate while simultaneously configuring the graphics settings for optimal power efficiency. This reduces the overall acoustic level for gaming laptops.
Ultra-smooth gaming visuals and versatile connectivity: ROG Zephyrus is equipped with a 120Hz display that enables smooth gaming at a true 120Hz frame rate. NVIDIA G-SYNC display technology synchronizes the display’s refresh rate with the NVIDIA GeForce graphics card’s frame rate, ensuring ultra-smooth visuals. G-SYNC reduces lag, minimizes perceived stutter, and eliminates visual tearing — providing the smoothest, fastest and most breathtaking gaming imaginable, without affecting system performance. Wide viewing angles and a 100 percent sRGB color gamut also allow the panel to produce outstanding, lifelike colors from any angle. The laptop is also equipped with a USB Type-C (USB-C) port with Thunderbolt 3, allowing G-SYNC and 4K UHD display output, fast data transfers and power delivery.

Edutech NGO Meghshala App to Help Over 50,000 Teachers in 2017

Meghshala, a non-profit edutech organisation founded by former teacher Jyoti Thyagarajan and entrepreneur Sridhar Ranganathan, has launched its 'Android App' and ‘Pinut’ server.

By setting up 50 low-cost offline content distribution hubs called ‘Pinut’, Meghshala, which is supported by Tata Trusts, allows a teacher to visit a block resource centre near their school and download the app and the Meghshala ‘TeachKits’ for free. Meghshala has close to 500 active users.

The app and server aim to reach over 50,000 teachers in the country, going beyond Karnataka. Teachers with a smartphone and Internet connection can download the app and lessons free of cost.

The organisation partners with Makkala Jagriti, ISHA Foundation, MYRADA and Anthyodaya that helps them communicate with the teachers in the most remote parts of India.
The content is multilingual and has lessons in Kannada, English, and Hindi. The teach kits will have new pedagogical techniques, teaching ideas, activities, videos, and pictures that help teachers engage with students. The app, launched on Friday, also has a discussion forum, which allows exchange of teaching techniques as well as content. Teachers can also post videos, pictures and even ask for help.

Jyoti Thyagarajan, founder and trustee of Meghshala, said that with the increasing penetration of smart phones, the app could be downloaded on the smart phones for free and is easy for teachers to use in their classrooms. Ullas Kumar, vice-president-Education Operations of Meghshala, said the content can be filtered based on the subject, class, lesson, and titles. There are over 2,500 lessons available on the app.

Mallikarjun M.R., an elementary school teacher at a government school in Kodathi in the city, said he had tested the app prior to the launch.

“There could be times when we are not able to ideate on how to teach a particular chapter. The app comes in handy at such times,” he said. He recently taught a lesson on elements, compounds, and mixtures to class 6 students and he said he was able to win the concentration of his students as there were many pictures that helped students visualise.

Rajeev Gowda, Rajya Sabha MP, G. Raghuram, Director, Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru and VR Mehta of Tata Trust were present at the launch of the app at an event in Bengaluru.
