AGI Greenpac Limited, India's leading packaging products company and the country's most profitable glass packaging manufacturer, announced the appointment of Mr. Dushyant Kumar as Chief Operating Officer of its Aluminium Cans business.

With an engineering background, Dushyant brings over three decades of experience in the metal packaging and beverage can industry, including leadership roles at Canpack India and extensive exposure across global markets. Over the course of his career, he has built and managed businesses across operations, supply chain, and commercial strategy.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Rajesh Khosla, CEO, AGI Greenpac, said: “We are pleased to welcome a leader whose strong operational expertise aligns with our culture of disciplined execution. As we expand into the aluminium cans segment, we are entering a category that is seeing strong momentum globally and in India, driven by changing consumer preferences and increasing demand for sustainable packaging solutions. Aluminium is one of the most sustainable materials in the world, infinitely recyclable without any loss of quality, and we believe this is the right time for us to build a strong presence in this space.”

Commenting on joining the organisation, Mr. Dushyant Kumar said: “I am excited to join AGI Greenpac at a transformative phase in its growth journey. The Company has established a strong reputation and leadership position in glass packaging, and its entry into aluminium cans reflects a forward-looking vision aligned with evolving market and sustainability trends. I look forward to working closely with the team to build a high-quality, customer-centric organisation that drives innovation, operational excellence, and long-term growth in the aluminium cans segment.”

The appointment comes at a strategic time as AGI Greenpac accelerates the development of its aluminium cans venture. Earlier this month, the Company announced the ground-breaking ceremony for its Greenfield aluminium beverage cans manufacturing facility in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, marking the formal commencement of construction for the project. With a proposed investment of approximately ₹1,000 crore, the plant will launch with two production lines capable of a combined output of 1.6 billion cans per year and, through debottlenecking initiatives, the total capacity can be expanded to over 2 billion cans annually. The plant is expected to become operational by FY28 and will cater to the rapidly growing demand from India’s beverage industry.

IMFA Acquires 26% Stake In Renewable Energy Company For Rs 110 Crore

* Secures 65 MW hybrid renewable power under long-term captive arrangement

Key Highlights:

Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA; estd 1961), the country’s leading fully integrated producer of ferro alloys, announced the acquisition of a 26% equity stake in EG Urja Strot Private Limited for an aggregate consideration of approximately Rs 110.18 crore.

The company has also executed a 29-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EG Urja Strot under the Captive Consumer structure as defined under the Electricity Act, 2003 and Electricity Rules, 2005, securing a contracted demand of 65 MW of hybrid renewable power for its ferro chrome operations. The underlying hybrid renewable energy project has a total installed capacity comprising solar capacity of 81.4 MW, wind capacity of 102.6 MW and battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity of 25 MWh, of which IMFA will draw 65 MW as a captive consumer. The indicative timeline for completion of the project is June 2027.

This development follows the previously announced 70 MWp hybrid renewable energy sourcing arrangement, expected to commence in Q2 FY27. With the signing of this agreement, IMFA’s contracted renewable energy supply portfolio stands at 135 MW. About 1.6 tonnes of carbon emission shall be offset annually and ~45 lakh tonnes over the course of the agreement, marking a significant step in IMFA’s transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.

Renewable energy is now expected to account for nearly 40% of the Company’s total energy mix in the next fiscal. It will also help ensure reliable and cost-effective power supply for the company’s operations.

Incorporated on March 6, 2025, EG Urja Strot Private Limited is engaged in the renewable energy business in India.

Commenting on the development, Mr Binoy Agarwalla, Vice President and Head, Power Business Unit, said, “This acquisition is aligned with IMFA’s long-term strategy of strengthening energy security whilst increasing the share of renewable power in our overall energy mix. The arrangement will support our operations with reliable and competitively priced green power over the long term.”

Mr Agarwalla added, “The combination of solar, wind and battery storage capacity is expected to improve operational efficiency and provide greater stability in power procurement. Building on the strong foundation of our integrated business model, we will continue to pursue opportunities that enhance competitiveness and create sustainable value for stakeholders.”

About IMFA

Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA), incorporated in 1961 and headquartered in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is India’s largest fully integrated producer of value-added ferrochrome with an installed furnace capacity of 289 MVA capable of producing 434,000 tonnes per annum (tpa). The company operates captive chrome ore mines at Sukinda and Mahagiri, along with manufacturing complexes at Therubali, Choudwar and Kalinganagar. It also has captive power generation capacity comprising 200 MW coal-based and 4.55 MWp solar. IMFA’s operations are benchmarked to international standards and are ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) certified.

With the greenfield ferro chrome project in Kalinganagar, total furnace capacity will stand at 355 MVA (534,000 tpa). Chrome Ore requirement for the enhanced smelting capacity will be entirely met from the company’s captive chrome ore mines and supported by hybrid renewable power. As part of its diversification strategy, a 120 kLD grain-based ethanol plant is being set up at Therubali, Odisha.

Why Foreign Tourist Arrivals In Goa Plummeted By Over 80% In 2026?

Foreign tourist arrivals in Goa plummeted by over 80% this year, dropping international footfall from 900,000 in 2017 to roughly 40,000 via charters. The massive decline is driven by soaring local costs, the lack of regulated app-based taxis, and stiffer competition from cheaper, hassle-free destinations like Vietnam, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.

Key Reasons Behind the Decline:

Cheaper Alternatives: Many European and Russian tourists who traditionally formed the bulk of Goa's charter tourism are opting for Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka. Countries like Vietnam and Thailand offer superior beachfront lodging and package deals at a fraction of Goa's current prices.

Unregulated Taxi Mafia: The absence of standardized, app-based cab services leaves foreign tourists subjected to aggressive haggling and exorbitant fares. This remains one of the most frequently cited complaints deterring return visits.

Rising Accommodation Costs: The influx of domestic high-end tourism and a thriving MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) economy have significantly driven up hotel rates. Many mid-tier and budget foreign travelers feel priced out of properties they previously enjoyed.

Infrastructure and Overcrowding: The sharp surge in domestic visitors over the last few years has led to overcrowded beaches, traffic congestion, and growing concerns over cleanliness and public etiquette, which detract from the relaxed "Sushegaad" lifestyle international visitors initially seek.

Flight Disruptions: The reduction or cancellation of specific international air routes, such as direct Air India flights from London Gatwick to Goa, severely limited international flight connectivity.

VilCart Builds One Of India’s Largest Kirana-Led Rural Commerce Networks; Clocks ₹1,176 Crore Revenue In FY26

* Bengaluru-based rural commerce platform connects 1,00,000 kirana stores across 30,000 villages, building a tech-enabled supply chain ecosystem for Bharat

As India’s next wave of consumption growth shifts to Bharat, Bengaluru-based VilCart is building one of the country’s largest kirana-led rural commerce ecosystems — connecting manufacturers, brands and farmer producer organisations directly to over 1 lakh kirana stores across 30,000 villages in South India. Positioned at the intersection of retail, supply chain and technology, VilCart is reimagining how rural India accesses everyday essentials, FMCG, staples and aspirational products through a tech-enabled distribution and commerce platform purpose-built for Bharat.

Founded in 2018 by C. Prasanna Kumar, VilCart has emerged as one of the fastest-scaling rural commerce companies in the country, connecting manufacturers, farmer producer organisations (FPOs), rural SMEs and brands directly to over 1,00,000 kirana stores across 30,000+ villages in South India. The company today reaches nearly 16% of South India’s rural population through its integrated B2B and B2C ecosystem.

The company reported revenue of ₹1,176 crore in FY26, up from ₹1,120 crore in FY25, while continuing its path toward operational profitability. Over the last five years, VilCart has scaled revenues nearly 5.6x while maintaining a highly capital-efficient growth model.

At the heart of VilCart’s growth is a category-led and infrastructure-first approach to rural commerce. Unlike conventional e-commerce or urban quick-commerce models, VilCart is building a rural-first supply chain architecture designed specifically for the realities of village India — fragmented sourcing, inconsistent distribution, low assortment access and inefficient procurement systems.

“India’s rural economy has demand, entrepreneurship and aspiration. What it lacks is an efficient commerce infrastructure. VilCart is solving this by building a deeply integrated ecosystem that combines supply chain, technology, data and local execution,” said C. Prasanna Kumar, Founder & CEO, VilCart.

“What differentiates us is that we are not just a distribution company or a marketplace. We are building the infrastructure layer for rural commerce — connecting brands, kiranas and consumers through one unified network. Rural India cannot be served through urban models. It needs rural-native innovation,” he added.

The company has also built a strong private-label portfolio tailored specifically for rural India, backed by 43 registered trademarks across categories. Using demand intelligence from village-level consumption patterns, VilCart identifies high-potential categories and develops affordable, quality-focused products designed for regional rural markets.

VilCart’s growth story is also emerging as a case study in capital-efficient rural commerce. The company has raised approximately $26 million to date while generating over ₹1,176 crore in FY26 revenue — translating to one of the strongest revenue-to-capital efficiency ratios in the sector.

The platform currently works with more than 80,000 billed kirana stores across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with plans to deepen geographic penetration and strengthen its technology and private-label ecosystem through its upcoming Series B growth phase.

“Our vision is to make rural commerce as seamless and efficient as urban commerce — while solving it in a way that is sustainable, profitable and inclusive for Bharat,” added Prasanna Kumar.

About VilCart

VilCart is a pioneering tech-enabled B2B2C rural commerce platform revolutionizing supply chains across rural India. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Bengaluru, the company is led by Founder & CEO, C. Prasanna Kumar. With a mission to empower rural economies, VilCart connects manufacturers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and rural SMEs directly to 1,00,000+ kirana stores across 30,000+ villages, reaching 16% of South India's rural population through its innovative ecosystem.

Rural kirana stores traditionally spend 3–4 days per month traveling for procurement, facing fragmented supply chains, limited product access, high costs, and lost business time. VilCart eliminates these inefficiencies with doorstep delivery via a seamless mobile-first platform featuring inventory management, billing tools, credit access, and data-driven demand prediction. The business model—Manufacturer/FPO → VilCart → Kirana → Rural Consumer—generates revenue through product margins, private labels, and distribution efficiencies, supported by a 1600+ workforce driving hyperlocal execution.

VilCart has achieved remarkable growth, with revenue of Rs. 1176 Cr in FY26 rising from Rs 1,120 Cr in FY25 with operational profitability. The platform boosts kirana store incomes, provides consumers affordable quality goods, and fuels rural economic growth through job creation and women empowerment. VilCart is redefining rural commerce by blending technology, supply chain innovation, and grassroots execution—building a more inclusive, efficient Bharat.

Godrej Foundation launches Tomorrow Makers To Unlock India’s Untapped Talent

* A national platform designed to identify and support high-potential youth from disadvantaged backgrounds across STEM, innovation, arts and defence

The Godrej Foundation, an independent philanthropic trust, today announced the launch of Tomorrow Makers, a national platform designed to identify and support high-potential students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Tomorrow Makers is built on the belief that while talent is widely distributed across India, access to opportunity is not. The platform will identify high-potential students – from Classes 6-12 as well as graduates – and connect them to organisations, educators, mentors, competitions and peer communities that can help them realise their potential.

Through programmes run by eight partner organisations, Tomorrow Makers offers four different pathways – STEM, Invention and Making, Arts and Defence –for high-potential students from different age groups.

Omar Momin, Chief Executive Officer, Godrej Foundation, said, “India is home to one of the world’s largest school-going populations, yet access to structured mentorship, advanced learning opportunities, and talent acceleration ecosystems remains uneven, particularly for students from underserved communities. Through Tomorrow Makers, we aim to help bridge this gap by building pathways that identify and nurture high-potential young people from across regions and socio-economic backgrounds. Through this platform, we hope to build a pipeline of future innovators, researchers, artists, entrepreneurs, soldiers, and public leaders whose success can create multiplier effects by transforming families, strengthening communities, and contributing to India’s long-term leadership and progress.”

For those in Class 10-12 with a strong aptitude in science and mathematics, and who aspire to careers in engineering, medicine or technology, Tomorrow Makers has partnered with organisations Dakshana and Avanti Fellows, who provide free coaching for JEE and NEET preparation.

For younger students in Class 6-7, organisations like Genwise and MakerGhat offer summer camps and workshops for advanced learning in robotics, computing and higher mathematics, as well as opportunities to compete in national and global robotics competitions.

In the arts pathway, Tomorrow Makers has partnered with Slam Out Loud, which provides mentorship, skill development and performance opportunities for children with an aptitude for music, drama, writing and other forms of creative expression.

For graduates, Tomorrow Makers offers support in two pathways: those with talent in drama and theatre can access professional training through the Drama School Mumbai, while those interested in careers in the armed forces can get training to prepare for defence service examinations through the Delta Squad Foundation and Yuvatejas.

Tomorrow Makers will provide need-based scholarships for those who cannot afford these programmes.

Vandana Goyal, co-CEO, Avanti Fellows, said, “There are students with exceptional talent across India, but many of them never get the opportunity to enter elite institutions because of their socio-economic circumstances. In the upper echelons of academia and industry, we need more equitable representation. Tomorrow Makers is creating a crucial national pipeline to help gifted students channel their potential. This platform will enable us to expand our programmes and help greater numbers of high-potential students access opportunities in STEM fields, turning ability into real outcomes."

Esan, founder, Delta Squad Foundation, said, "Serving the nation begins long before one dons the uniform. At Delta Squad Foundation, we believe leadership is built through discipline, resilience, service, and real responsibility. Today, Delta Squad stands as India’s only disaster rescue squad raised by young serving Armed Forces officers. Over the years, we have mentored youth aspiring to join the Armed Forces while exposing them to real-world leadership through rescue and relief missions. Through Tomorrow Makers, we hope to make this model of leadership training and nation-building accessible to deserving young Indians from every background.”

Jigyasa Labroo, founder, Slam Out Loud, said, “When we think of who the cultural curators of India are, we don't think of what most of our country looks and lives like. There is no dearth of artistic talent in India, but the arts - particularly performing arts – are not an easy field to establish oneself or build a career in. Through our partnership with Tomorrow Makers, we have created a programme for gifted young artists from less privileged backgrounds across India to get the right kind of training, mentorship and exposure. We're excited to build the next generation of creative leaders, and have their voices represent our country's stories!”

To apply for Tomorrow Makers, students from across India can register for an assessment test directly on the platform’s website or through its Whatsapp bot. Students from different age groups will be assessed for their potential in the sciences, invention, the arts, and endurance. Those who clear all stages of the assessment will then be placed in programmes run by Godrej Foundation’s network of high-quality non-profit partners who have expertise in nurturing talent for specific career pathways.

The initiative forms part of the Godrej Foundation’s broader mission to strengthen the foundations of a prosperous and inclusive India through long-term investments in economic growth, inclusion, innovation, and talent development.

How to apply

Students can register for Tomorrow Makers through Whatsapp, by saying ‘Hi’ on +91 8655979118, or by visiting www.tomorrow-makers.in

Students who successfully register will be directed towards an online assessment process. For students in Classes 6 and 7, the test is available in 11 languages: English, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Urdu, Kannada and Malayalam. Students in Class 11 and 12 will be able to take the test in English.

The focus of the platform is to open access to opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. While registrations are open to all high-potential students, those from low-income households are likely to form 80% of the cohort each year.
