Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of national carrier Malaysia Airlines, proudly commemorated the arrival of its first A330-900 (A330neo) aircraft today with a launch ceremony held at Hangar 6, MAB Engineering Complex. This milestone marks a pivotal step in MAG’s fleet modernisation strategy as it strengthens its commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and providing passengers with an elevated level of comfort and service.

The aircraft, registered as 9M-MNG, was officially launched by Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia, together with Dato' Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, MAG’s main shareholder; and Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG. YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia said, "The launch of MAG’s first Airbus A330neo is not simply the introduction of a new aircraft; it is the culmination of resilience, determination, and an unwavering belief in the power of progress.

It reflects MAG’s determination to lead in a competitive industry, our nation’s commitment to sustainability, and the extraordinary potential of Malaysian talent."

Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said, “The debut of our first A330neo marks a transformative moment for MAG as we modernise our fleet and set a new era of air travel where innovation, comfort, and sustainability come together seamlessly. This commitment underscores our dedication to placing our passengers at the heart of everything we do, delivering an exceptional and unforgettable journey that embodies the warmth and care of Malaysian Hospitality.”

The A330neo is the latest aircraft to join MAG’s growing fleet, with a total of 20 to be delivered by 2028 following its Memorandum of Understandings (MOU) with Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Avolon in August 2022. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330neo features the latest innovations in aerodynamics, advanced materials, delivering a 14% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft.

MAG’s A330neo aircraft comprises 297 seats (28 in Business Class and 269 in Economy Class, of which 24 seats come with extra legroom). With a 1-2-1 herringbone configuration, the newly designed Collins Aerospace Elevation Business Class seats will be a first for the Group, featuring an all-suite cabin with individual privacy doors which prioritises cabin comfort and practicality.

The new A330neo aircraft is set to elevate the travel experience with a host of advanced features, including the industry–leading FlightPath3D moving map system — the most interactive across all

MAG fleet – offering real-time tracking and detailed journey insights, enhancing the way passengers explore the skies. In keeping with the airline’s family-friendly approach, the aircraft’s in-flight entertainment system will also come with ‘Kids Mode’, providing a seamless interface in keeping them entertained throughout their journey.

Passengers can also enjoy a comprehensive destination guide that highlights the culture and history of the destinations served by the aircraft. Additionally, the aircraft will come with high-speed connectivity, allowing all passengers, regardless of cabin class or loyalty tier, to enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi onboard. In addition, Business Class passengers can also indulge in the SkySnacks offering, a self- service concept featuring a curated selection of light snacks to munch at any time.

The airline is the only carrier to introduce this private transfer service in KLIA Terminal 1 between the Main Terminal Building and Satellite Building as part of its commitment to elevating the passenger experience.

MAG currently operates a fleet of 107 aircraft across its subsidiaries, including Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings and MASkargo. Looking ahead, the Group plans to expand its fleet to 62 narrowbody and 52 widebody aircraft by 2033. India Raises A Toast To Cocktails This New Year: 55% Prefer Cocktails Over Champagne For Special Moments, Finds 2025 Bacardi Report

* Premium sips, AI-tips, and booming cocktail culture:  Bacardi’s latest report uncovers what’s next for the cocktail culture in India

Ahead of the New Year, Bacardi Limited, the largest privately held international spirits company, unveils the sixth annual Bacardi Cocktail Trends Report, spotlighting the key trends set to shape cocktail culture and the spirits industry in 2025. This year’s global report includes insights from Indian consumers, highlighting a notable shift in preferences: over half (55%) favor cocktails over champagne (41%) to celebrate special occasions, showing how Indians are embracing cocktails for the upcoming festive season.

Vodka emerges as the top choice for gifting (50%), followed by scotch whisky (45%) and champagne (40%), making them the perfect gift for special moments. As spirits take center stage in gifting, they naturally carry over into celebratory occasions, with almost a quarter (24%) of respondents selecting spirits as their drink of choice for larger celebrations.

As we look toward 2025, consumers in India are excited to embrace cocktails in new and meaningful ways. Over half (54%) are eager to celebrate special moments with family and friends over cocktails, while 45% are looking forward to exploring new bars and restaurants. The rise of cocktails is also evident in the increasing preference for them over beer, with 32% of respondents drinking more cocktails.

“Ushering in the new year with a new era in India’s promising cocktail culture, the 2025 Bacardi Cocktail Trends Report spotlights significant shifts amongst Indian consumers, where trends like premiumisation and AI-based personalisation are reshaping modern celebrations. At Bacardi, we are proud to be at the forefront of this evolution, with insights that inspire creativity, enhance experiences, and empower India’s vibrant community of bar owners and bartenders in crafting moments that matter for our consumers,” says Vinay Golikeri, Managing Director, Bacardi Pvt. Ltd. India & Southeast Asia.

Indian consumers are showing a strong appetite for quality when it comes to their spirits. Nine in ten (91%) are willing to pay a premium for traditionally aged spirits, valuing the depth and authenticity they bring over artificially aged alternatives. Additionally, 77% of respondents are choosing additive-free spirits, reflecting a growing preference for purity and craftsmanship in their drink choices. This shift towards high-quality, naturally crafted options highlights a growing desire for more authentic and premium drinking experiences.

Commenting on India’s top 5 cocktails for 2025, Jonas Ax, Advocacy Lead, Bacardi Pvt Ltd., India,  said: “Indian consumers are embracing bold, vibrant flavors like never before, with fruity (66%), sweet (53%), and spicy (50%) cocktails leading the way for the next 12 months. It’s the perfect time to recommend cocktails like the PATRÓN Picante, especially as tequila continues to steal the spotlight. Even timeless classics are seeing a revival, with vodka soda rising to the top and vodka lemonade making a strong climb from last year. This shift, paired with the growing demand for premium experiences, makes GREY GOOSE the go-to choice for every celebration,"

The top 5 bar calls in India for 2025 are:

Vodka soda

Whiskey and coke

Vodka lemonade

Rum and coke

Mojito

Globally, the five macro-trends defined by the 2025 Bacardi Cocktail Trends Report are:

1. Premium Fans: The Synergy Between Fandoms and Premium Hospitality Experiences

Fandoms are elevating premium entertainment, blending passion for live events with immersive hospitality add-ons and experiences. From luxury hotels partnering for “gig-tripping” packages to sports bars curating exclusive cocktail menus, the fusion of fandom and premium spirits is redefining the future of entertainment – this trend is set to grow as more brands get room to innovate with nearly half (48%) of Indian respondents planning to attend more music and cultural festivals in 2025.

2. In-The-Know Imbibing. Cocktail culture is evolving from spectacle to substance, as IYKYK – i.e. "If You Know You Know" – experiences take center stage. Mixologists will transform into designers, educators and opinion leaders, using their craft to create a more meaningful connection with every person that walks into their bar. Even though the rise of technology is reshaping the way consumers explore cocktails, with nine in ten (92%) Indians showing interest in AI-driven recommendations for personalized drink options tailored to their taste preferences, previous choices, and the mood or occasion. However, three-quarters express concerns that AI might lack the emotional and artistic flair that human bartenders bring to their craft. Despite technological advancements, the human touch remains vital, with 44% of Indian respondents still relying on bartender recommendations to discover new cocktails.

3. New Cocktail Frontiers. Digital fatigue and a growing desire for cultural exploration mean people are craving real, multi-sensory engagement — in fact, 37% of Indian respondents cited multi-sensory cocktails as a key reason for spending more, while 39% are drawn to unique venues that inspire them to snap and share their cocktail moments. This shift is transforming how people enjoy drinks and where they enjoy them. 2025 will see the rise of immersive venues which cater to early evening, sensory-rich cocktail moments.

4. Culinary Connoisseurs. The line between food and drink is blurring as mixologists experiment with kitchen staples like milk, oil, and brine to create a new wave of gastro-inspired drinking experiences. Nearly three-quarters (70%) of bartenders draw inspiration from the culinary arts when creating cocktails, according to the Bacardi Global Brand Ambassador Survey. This trend aligns with consumer interest in savory and herbaceous flavors, which grew by 20% and 15% respectively in 2024. Women are also leading a shift towards more natural options, with four in ten drinking cocktails made with natural ingredients in India.

5. The Future Spirit: As brands evolve to align with the values of next-gen consumers, 2025 will see a push for inclusivity and a drive for positive change. In India, over a fifth (22%) will be drinking more sustainably, valuing aspects like recyclable packaging (48%), commitment to water preservation (47%), and reducing single use plastic (46%) when it comes to the spirits and liquor they consume. Beyond greener innovation, community-building will take center stage with a strong focus on education and empowerment that improve the hospitality landscape.

KIMS Hyderabad Becomes First Private Indian Hospital To Perform 100 Robotic Whipple Surgeries

·         KIMS Hyderabad is the first hospital in AP and Telangana to do 100 robotic Whipple surgeries

·         The surgeries were performed by using advanced da Vinci robotic system

Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a leading multi-specialty hospital in Hyderabad, became the first private hospital in India to successfully complete 100 robotic-assisted Whipple surgeries to treat complicated pancreatic cancers. The Whipple procedure, also known as a pancreaticoduodenectomy, is a surgical operation to treat complex tumors in the pancreas and adjoining regions that are challenging to access and remove due to their location and involvement with critical blood vessels and organs.

The majority of the 100 cases involved patients aged 14 to 80, primarily from Hyderabad and other district headquarters such as Karimnagar, Nizamabad, and nearby regions. They all suffered from malignant pancreatic tumors, which were bulky and ranged from 4 cm to 8 cm in size.

Dr. Madhu Devarasetty, Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist at KIMS Hyderabad, who led the team of experts that achieved the milestone, said, “Even in the rarest and most complicated of pancreatic cancer cases, we decided to employ robotic technology for the surgery to avoid major complications, and to enable quicker recovery times. Most of the patients were discharged on the fifth day after surgery, and could go back to living their normal lives soon.”

Reconstruction is a critical step in the procedure, as it directly impacts the duration of the patient's recovery and discharge. If the pancreaticojejunostomy is not sutured and reconstructed properly, it can lead to leaks, resulting in infections, sepsis, fever, and deranged vital signs. By using the advanced robotic system, da Vinci, pancreaticojejunostomy reconstruction was done with ease and without many complications.

The team at KIMS devised and standardized techniques at every step of the procedure i.e. –  from resection to reconstruction, and even in the  use of suture materials also so that optimal patient outcomes could be achieved.

They recently performed a robotic-assisted total Whipple procedure on a 58-year-old woman who presented with anemia and blood in her stool. Upon evaluation, they identified a 6x6 cm tumor in the head of the pancreas extending into the duodenal wall. Performing a total robotic Whipple for such a large tumor posed significant challenges, but the surgery proceeded smoothly. The surgical connections between tissue structures were highly satisfactory, and the patient was discharged on the fifth postoperative day.

Similarly, Dr. Madhu cites another case, one that was performed a few years ago. An 18-year-old girl presented with an 8-centimeter tumor in the head of the pancreas, causing abdominal pain. She underwent a robotic-assisted total Whipple procedure, despite the tumor compressing the superior mesenteric vessels. The surgery was successfully performed, and the patient was discharged on the fifth postoperative day. She even went on to get married, and has two children now.

These two cases highlight the efficacy of the robotic-assisted total Whipple procedure in managing large pancreatic lesions and large pancreatic tumors, both the patients were very pleased with the outcomes, and are doing very well,” he added.

According to Dr. Madhu, robotic-assisted surgery is what made all the difference. “Advanced robotic technology, da Vinci has improved the reconstruction process, offering precise placement of sutures through advanced magnification. The dexterity of the robotic needle holder allows for swift and accurate suturing, similar to fine artwork. This precision has significantly improved surgical outcomes, said Dr. Madhu, adding, "With other modes of surgery, the challenge was that during reconstruction, the movements didn’t quite match the precision of the robotic system. The placement of sutures wasn’t as accurate. But when I transitioned to robotic-assisted surgery, the difference was immediate. From the very first case, we completed the entire Whipple procedure robotically without needing to convert to open surgery."

Dr. Madhu is of the opinion that there is a rise in pancreatic cancer cases in the region, and there is a pressing need to spread awareness about the symptoms and the importance of early detection. “If you notice symptoms such as persistent jaundice and fever, it is advisable to get yourself evaluated by a medical professional at the earliest. Early detection can go a long way in improving treatment outcomes and increasing survival rates,” he advised.
