Jawa Riding Experience Amped Up with the "BSVI Models"

Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd. has begun the delivery of BS-VI models of Jawa and Jawa forty two through its dealership network across the country. Both models are now available for display, test rides and booking at the following Jawa dealership.

Both Jawa and Jawa forty two continue to sport the 293cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder, DOHC engine. Both bikes now feature India’s first cross port technology that increases the volumetric efficiency of the engine by enabling better flow of charge and exhaust gases, and improves power and torque output.

This engine is the world’s first single cylinder engine that uses the cross port configuration and develops similar power and torque to the BS4 configuration to offer the same superior riding experience to the customer. This tech also helps the motorcycles retain their characteristic twin exhaust identity and meet the stricter BS-VI emission standards while retaining similar power and torque numbers.

With the world’s first Cross Port configuration on a single cylinder engine, the Jawa’s newly positioned lambda sensor monitors internal and external variables even more efficiently to give a consistent performance and cleaner emissions regardless of any road condition. The throttle response has been made crisper to respond to even the slightest inputs with precision through improved fuelling.

The seat has been reengineered with a new seat pan as well as cushioning translating to more comfort over longer rides. In the cosmetic department, the chrome plating now comes with the backing of rigorous testing rated at two and a half times the industry standard. Both Jawa models continue to sport best in class braking systems equipped with (single & dual channel) ABS by Continental, offering shortest braking distance and best control among its competitors.

In addition, there have been a host of changes under the skin right from the tone of the horn to a slicker gearshift.

The motorcycles are also available with a range of easy finance options, that minimize the upfront spend and allow the customers the flexibility of paying the EMIs over a period of two or three years.

‘XR’ stands for an uncompromising mix of sportiness and touring capability. The all-new BMW S 1000 XR’s thrilling design reflects pure performance and the promise of long-distance travelling comfort with a riding position that is impressively active yet relaxed. The front fairing and lighting system are defined by sharp edges. Combined with striking beading the overall line is shaped aggressively and consistently to the finish. The visually short tail is also reminiscent of a sport bike. The revised aerodynamics, fairing, comfortable handlebars along with long-distant seating position ensure great riding fun miles after miles. The adjustable windshield provides even better protection against the cold, driving noises and the elements allowing the rider to keep your eyes on the road. All lighting units such as the main headlamp, tail light, indicator lights and instrument cluster uses the latest LED technology. The new LED headlamp not only gives the all-new BMW S 1000 XR a highly dynamic look, it also lights up the road even more effectively than before. The integrated parking lights enhance the bike's unmistakable appearance.

The newly developed 999 cc in-line 4-cylinder engine is based on the BMW S 1000 RR engine and delivers an output of 165 hp at 11,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. The engine speed range is broader and harmonious to enhance ridability. The 4th, 5th and 6th gears now have longer ratios, low noise level, lower fuel consumption and lower engine rpm at cruising speeds. The motorcycle sprints from 0-100 km/hr in just 3.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of over 200 km/hr.

The new suspension system has been completely engineered to enhance riding dynamics and riding fun as compared to the predecessor model. The key factor is the optimum interplay between the frame design and the engine as a load-bearing element. The new double-sided swinging arm offers a particularly sensitive response thanks to its direct linkage. The suspension geometry further increase agility, feedback and enhance the mechanical grip of the rear wheel.

The all-new BMW S 1000 XR has four standard riding modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro. The ‘Dynamic Pro’ mode is fully configurable and offers riders a wide range of setting options to suit their riding style.  The throttle response, engine brake, ABS control and traction control, wheelie control (including the new ‘Power Wheelie’ setting) can be configured separately for the first time. While the part integral BMW Motorrad ABS systems already provide a very high degree of performance and safety when braking in a straight line, ABS Pro now takes this a step further to offer increased safety when braking in banking position as well.

The adventure tourer features the latest generation of BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) as standard. Thanks to the latest valve technology, the versatile adventure sports bike provides a particularly dynamic riding experience with a high level of ride comfort. For the first time in the BMW S 1000 XR, the dynamic brake assistant DBC (Dynamic Brake Control) also supports the rider during braking manoeuvres.

Further, MSR (Motorschleppmomentregelung) or dynamic engine break control electronically prevents the locking, slippage or hopping of the rear wheel that can result when the throttle is snapped shut or the during rider downshifts. MSR maximizes stability and safety of the BMW S 1000 XR by detecting rear wheel hopping in time and instantaneously equalize drag torque by opening the throttle valves. The anti-hopping clutch in combination with MSR offers best protection against engine braking torque influences and against dropping the bike.

The best-in-class 6.5- inch colour TFT screen instrument cluster along with BMW Motorrad connectivity offers unmatched display and access to information. In addition, the BMW Motorrad Connected App offers handy arrow based navigation suitable for day-to-day use directly on TFT screen. The multi-controller on the left hand handlebar panel enables quick, safe and convenient screen operation.

A wide range of retrofit equipment and gear options are available to further enhance the riding experience with a range of storage bags, backpacks, rider gear, navigation and communication. Customers can augment their bike with safety accessories suchas radiator grille, hand protector, brake disk lock with antitheft alarm and protective glass for TFT screen. Quick maintenance at home or while touring is made easy with assembly stand, multifunctional tool kit, tyre pressure travel pack, breakdown assistance kit for tubeless tyres and compact foot pump.

* Powered by a 334cc cross port engine delivering 30.64 PS of power and a higher 32.74 Nm of torque
* The company puts in place attractive finance schemes and safety protocols across dealerships for a worry-free buying experience

Jawa Perak has been one of the most anticipated motorcycles of 2020 and now the wait to see the Perak on the road and own this creature of the night is over. Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd. announced the start of deliveries of the Perak from the 20th of July across the length and breadth of the country.

The Perak is a motorcycle reminiscing the past, yet far ahead of its time. Designed and developed as a factory custom embodying the spirit of ‘Stealth, Vigilante and Dark’, the BSVI compliant machine is a true bobber in spirit and form with ‘bobbed’ fenders, chopped exhaust and a floating seat.

All this power is put to the tarmac via a 6-speed transmission with ratios optimised to offer a great riding experience through the gears.

Housed in a completely reworked chassis with an all-new swingarm, engineered to offer the optimum transverse, longitudinal, torsional rigidity. Frame and swingarm stiffness have been tuned for a linear feel, aiding stability over straights and poise along winding roads. This plays a significant role in improving the handling.

Unleashing the Jawa Perak, Anupam Thareja, co-founder, Classic Legends said, “When we set out to build the Perak, the goal was simple – to create a motorcycle with the right blend of exclusivity, individuality and performance, with a hint of sinister and dark. Built on the idea of India’s first factory custom, the Perak is just that and now it is out on its prowl. We are proud of our creation and today we offer it to our customers to enjoy. The contest wrapped up with the announcement of three winners picked by a panel of judges including the Classic Legend’s executives and design team. Soheil Kalarickal, an art director from Bangalore topped the scoreboard for his rendition of a Jawa forty two reimagined as a mix of brat and café racer style. Harley to cut 1,100 jobs as profit falls

Harley-Davidson Inc said Friday it will cut 1,100 jobs over two years, close some facilities and consolidate others as it grapples with a slowdown in motorcycle sales.

The Milwaukee-based company also reported its fourth-quarter profit fell nearly 60 per cent, and said it is slashing motorcycle shipments in 2009 to cope with reduced demand.

The iconic motorcycle maker said it will consolidate two engine and transmission plants in Milwaukee into its facility in Menomonee Falls, Wis. It will shrink its paint and frame operations in its York, Pennsylvania, plant and close its distribution facility in Franklin, Wisconsin, whose duties will be handled by a third party.

Harley also said it will end its domestic transportation fleet operation.

The company said the cuts include 800 hourly production positions and 300 non-production, mostly salaried positions. It said 70 per cent of the job cuts will occur this year and the rest in 2010.

The cuts will result in one-time charges of $110 million to $140 million over 2009 and 2010, Harley said. Once they are finished, the cuts will save between $60 million and $70 million per year.

Harley has been stung by the rapid downturn in motorcycle demand. The economic recession has prompted many consumers to put off purchases of its high-end bikes, while the credit crunch has kept some would-be customers from obtaining financing.

Meanwhile, the company remains in the midst of a shake-up among top management. Chief Executive Jim Ziemer said last month he would retire in 2009, and the company remains in the process of finding a successor. Sy Naqvi, the head of Harley's troubled financial-services arm, resigned earlier this month. Chief Financial Officer Tom Bergmann has taken on Naqvi's old duties until a replacement is found.

Harley said worldwide retail sales fell 13.1 per cent in the fourth quarter, with sales in the U.S. _ its biggest market _ falling nearly 20 per cent. International sales crept higher, though, and the overall heavyweight motorcycle sales fell 25.5 per cent in the same period, Harley said.

For the full year, worldwide retail sales fell 7.1 per cent. Harley said it is slashing new motorcycle shipments in 2009 to between 264,000 and 273,000 to cope with the down market. That would be a drop of 10 per cent to 13 per cent from a year earlier.

In 2008, Harley said it shipped 303,479 new motorcycles, down 8 per cent from 330,619 new motorcycles in 2007.
