IIHM Bengaluru Concludes International Hospitality Week 2026 With CSR Initiatives And Industry Engagement

The International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), Bengaluru, commemorated the 11th edition of International Hospitality Day (IHD) with a thoughtfully curated series of initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to celebrating, educating, and promoting the spirit of hospitality.

Conceptualised in 2015 as a pioneering global observance, International Hospitality Day was instituted by IIHM in association with the International Hospitality Council (IHC), UK, under the mentorship of Dr. Bose and Professor David Foskett. The initiative was created to recognise the invaluable contributions of hospitality professionals worldwide, an industry that previously lacked a dedicated Global Day of Recognition.

Over the years, IHD has evolved into a meaningful platform that highlights the role of hospitality in shaping human connections, cultural exchange and sustainable practices.

Celebrations at IIHM Bangalore

Marking the occasion, IIHM Bangalore organised a month-long calendar of activities aligned with the core pillars of IHD; Educate, Celebrate and Promote.

The initiatives were designed to blend academic learning with real-world engagement, ensuring students gain both professional exposure and social awareness.

CSR Initiative-Food Soldier Programme

A key highlight of this year’s celebrations was the ‘Food Soldier’ initiative, a flagship CSR programme focused on food sustainability and community welfare. Through this initiative, students actively engaged in efforts to minimise food waste and contribute to local communities, reinforcing the importance of responsible consumption within the hospitality sector.

The programme reflects IIHM Bangalore’s commitment to aligning hospitality education with broader societal needs and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to sustainability and hunger.

Other Activities and Student Engagement

Alongside its CSR efforts, IIHM Bengaluru hosted a range of activities aimed at fostering student participation and industry awareness. A tree plantation drive, conducted in collaboration with The Paul Hotel, underscored the importance of environmental responsibility within hospitality.

A walkathon for awareness brought together students and members of the public, creating visibility for responsible hospitality practices. Youth roadshows were organised to introduce aspiring students to career opportunities in the hospitality sector, while internal competitions encouraged creativity, innovation and professional excellence among students.

These initiatives collectively created a dynamic platform for students to engage, learn and contribute meaningfully beyond the classroom.

Recognising Excellence

International Hospitality Day also served as an occasion to honour outstanding contributions within the industry. Awards were presented across community-level recognitions, special categories and the prestigious Hall of Fame segment at a pan-India level.

These recognitions celebrate individuals not merely for their years of service, but for their impact, leadership and commitment to advancing the hospitality industry.

A Continuing Movement

As International Hospitality Day continues to gain significance, it stands as a reminder of the vital role hospitality plays in fostering empathy, sustainability and global connection.

Speaking on the larger vision, Dr Suborno Bose, Chairman of IIHM, said, “Hospitality is the invisible force that binds human connection across cultures and continents. International Hospitality Day is not just a celebration and it is a movement to recognise, respect and elevate the professionals who dedicate their lives to service. At IIHM, we believe in shaping future leaders who understand that hospitality goes beyond hotels; it is about empathy, sustainability, and global responsibility.”

Ms. Sanchari Chowdhury ,

Director, IIHM Bangalore and Head - South Operations, IIHM, said, “At IIHM Bangalore, International Hospitality Day is not just an event, but a learning experience that brings together industry relevance and social responsibility. Through initiatives like Food Soldier, youth engagement programmes and sustainability drives, we are nurturing a new generation of hospitality professionals who are not only skilled, but also conscious of their role in building a more inclusive and responsible world."

Through initiatives such as these, IIHM Bangalore continues to strengthen its role in shaping future-ready hospitality professionals, individuals who combine skill with sensitivity and global awareness.
