nurture.farm Completes Largest Ever Projects To Eliminate Stubble Burning In India


* Inaugural Project Saves Over 420,000 Acres From Being Burnt & Prevents 1,038,965 tonnes of Co2 Being Emitted, with 92% overall stubble burn avoidance across the enrolled farms.

nurture.farm, a digital platform for sustainable agriculture, has published the results of the Crop Residue Management (CRM) Program: the largest ever project to eliminate stubble burning in India. The CRM program impact report has evidenced benefits across reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improvements in soil health and farmer livelihoods, as well as reduced usage of fertilizers. Results published in the CRM program impact report indicate 92% overall stubble burn avoidance across the enrolled farms, with close to 420,000 acres of land saved from being burnt, resulting in the prevention of 1,038,965 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from being released.

Through the CRM program, nurture.farm supported over 25,000 farmers across 23 districts in Punjab and Haryana with access to farm mechanisation, and a bio-enzyme to decompose their crop stubble. Over the course of the project, over 1000 field personnel from nurture.farm led a fleet of more than 700 boom sprayers serviced over 420,000 acres of paddy fields with the bio-enzyme, developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), free of cost to the farmers. When sprayed onto the stubble, the PUSA bio-decomposer enzyme decomposes the stubble in 20-25 days, increasing organic carbon in the soil and maintaining overall soil health. 

Satellite monitoring of the paddy fields – in partnership with the European Space Agency – was used to identify farms that had been burnt at least once between 2018-2020, and was also used to help analyse farmers adherence to the program. For ensuring the program’s efficiency and scale, nurture.farm developed three mobile applications to improve farmer connectivity and educate farmers on regenerative practices, conduct area mapping, arrange spraying schedules, and monitor machine and equipment use.

Highlights of the CRM Program Impact report include:

* Overall burn avoidance: 92% of acres enrolled (97% in Punjab; 86% Haryana)

* Prevention of emissions: 1,038,965 tonnes of carbon dioxide; 141,612 tonnes of ash, 42,697 tonnes of carbon monoxide; 2,135 tonnes of particulate matter; 1,423 tonnes of sulphur dioxide

* 20-25% reduction in fertilizer usage and cost for next cropping season

* 20% increase in additional farmer income via short duration crops and yield improvements

*  Over 25,000 farmers educated in stubble burning avoidance mechanisms

MIT Manipal’s Department Of Computer Science & Engineering Inaugurates Its 5-Day FDP 2021


The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), MAHE inaugurated its 5-Day Faculty Developmental Programme (FDP) on blockchain technology and its applications virtually, commencing from 6th - 10th December 2021. The programme is sponsored by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE-ATAL), New Delhi. Around 166 participants from all around the country have enrolled on this programme.

Dr. Rajkumar Buyya, Professor at the School of Computing and Information Science, Melbourne, Australia, was invited as the chief guest for the inaugural programme.

Trend Micro Prediction Report Forecasts Cyber Fightback In 2022


* Report offers actionable insights for overburdened security teams

Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global cybersecurity leader, today predicted global organizations will emerge more alert and better prepared in 2022 thanks to a comprehensive, proactive, cloud-first approach to mitigating cyber risk. 

Research, foresight, and automation are critical for organizations to manage risk and secure their workforce. Trend Micro blocked 40.9 billion email threats, malicious files and malicious URLs for customers in the first half of 2021 alone – a 47% year-over-year increase. 

“We have more cybersecurity researchers embedded across the globe than any competitor, and those insights and discoveries are used widely within the industry and power our own product offerings,” said Kevin Simzer, chief operating officer at Trend Micro. “These teams power much of the threat intelligence for which we are renowned.” 

Trend Micro researchers predict that threat actors in 2022 will focus ransomware attacks on cloud and datacenter workloads and exposed services to take advantage of the large number of employees continuing to work from home. Vulnerabilities will be weaponized in record time and chained with privilege escalation bugs to drive successful campaigns, according to the report. 

“It’s been a tough couple of years for cybersecurity teams, disrupted by work-from-home mandates and challenged as corporate attack surfaces have exploded in size,” said Vijendra Katiyar, Country Manager, India & SAARC, Trend Micro. “However, as hybrid work emerges and more certainty returns day-to-day, security leaders will be able to plot a robust strategy to plug gaps and make the bad guys work much harder.” 

IoT systems, global supply chains, cloud environments, and DevOps functions will be in the crosshairs. More sophisticated commodity malware strains will be aimed at SMBs.

Vi Successfully Demonstrates Network Slicing Over 5G Standalone Mode, Along With Nokia, In Gandhinagar


* Vi tested slicing capability using Nokia's secure 5G network slicing solution showcasing a virtual reality use case

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) today announced that it used Nokia’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) and 5G core to successfully demonstrate secure network slicing. The trial was conducted in Gandhinagar in the state of Gujarat in western India where Vi is conducting 5G trials on Govt. allocated 5G spectrum.

Deployment of network slicing will enable Vi to quickly add new revenue streams while delivering innovative 5G use cases to the users and to enterprises. 

Two network slices were created as part of the demonstration. While the first slice was for general data traffic, a second slice was established for highspeed and extremely low latency. Without the second slice, virtual reality content achieved a lower resolution delivering an average user experience. Using Nokia’s solution, with security built in from the earliest product design phase, Vi showcased that network slicing significantly improved the user experience by allowing viewers to enjoy the high-resolution VR content. 

Network slicing allows service providers to create multiple virtual networks over the same physical network. These virtual networks can be configured based on different parameters, including network performance, speed, bandwidth and latency to offer differentiated services. This allows service providers to cost-effectively address the requirements of diverse customers by creating network slices in line with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) within minutes.

Cactus Communications Pursues Global Growth By Going Remote-First

Cactus Communications (CACTUS), a technology company accelerating scientific advancement, has announced its transition to a remote-first company for all its 1,200 employees across nine locations globally. It is one of the first companies in India to join a small but growing list of firms across the globe that are embracing remote-first— companies that have office locations but do not require their employees to work from them.
