GE Aerospace To Invest USD 14 Million To Expand Pune Manufacturing Capability

The announcement comes as GE Aerospace’s Pune facility celebrates its tenth year of operation.

GE Aerospace has announced a USD 14 million investment to expand capacity at the company’s Pune manufacturing facility as the site completes a decade of successful operations. This investment builds upon the USD 30 million announced last year. The new investment will strengthen the site’s capabilities through upgraded manufacturing processes and automation, including enhancements that support advanced engine components.

“Our team in Pune has built strong capabilities, and with the support of a country-wide network of suppliers, has delivered components for some of our most advanced commercial jet engines, with safety and quality at the forefront,” said Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of the Pune facility, GE Aerospace. “This investment reflects our commitment to the Make in India initiative and to advancing India’s role in global aerospace manufacturing.”

The Pune facility, which began as a multi-business manufacturing site, has since evolved into a high-tech aerospace parts supplier for GE Aerospace’s global commercial engine factories. Today, the site is supported by a network of more than 300 suppliers serving the Pune facility, part of the over 2,200 suppliers GE Aerospace partners with across India. Over the past 10 years, the facility has trained more than 5,000 production associates in precision manufacturing processes, playing a vital role in developing local talent. The site is also ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified, reflecting GE Aerospace’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.

The facility’s success is driven by FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating model that emphasizes safety, quality, and efficiency. With FLIGHT DECK, the site has reduced waste, improved process efficiency, and increased output while enhancing shop-floor safety. On a new line for a critical component, it has also achieved shorter lead times, higher productivity, and reduced downtime.

Vi Enhances Network On Sabarimala Route; Announces Pre-Registration For Vi Suraksha Wrist Bands For Children’s Safety

· Strengthens network by deploying 70 MHz of spectrum in 5 spectrum bands across Sannidhanam, Pampa, and Nilakkal to help pilgrims stay seamlessly connected

· Simplified pre-registration for the Vi Suraksha Wrist Bands begins today

As Kerala prepares for one of its largest annual pilgrimage in Sabarimala, the State Police and the largest telecom operator in Kerala, Vi, have once again joined hands to ensure a worry-free, safe pilgrimage.

Vi has strengthened its network to ensure pilgrims stay connected on the route, by enhancing connectivity across Sannidhanam, Pampa, and Nilakkal. It has deployed 70 MHz of spectrum across the spectrum bands in L900, L1800, L2100, L2300, L2500 and added 13 new sites in Pathanamthitta district.

To ensure seamless connectivity across the locations, Vi has also deployed advanced FDD and TDD layers with Massive MIMO technology to ensure strong data and voice services even during peak pilgrimage traffic.

Connectivity has been substantially strengthened at Ganapathi Kovil, Nadappanthal, administration offices, the Pampa–Sannidhanam trekking path, and Nilakkal parking and bus stand, enabling devotees to stay in touch with their families, access information, and share their spiritual experiences without disruption.

Vi Suraksha

Following the positive response to the Vi Suraksha initiative last year, Vi has once again partnered with the Kerala Police to provide QR-coded safety wrist bands for children. Each wristband is linked to a guardian’s contact number, helping police to quickly reunite lost children with their families.

Vi has introduced a simplified pre-registration process this year, enabling families to register well before reaching the base camp and collect the safety bands from any of the Vi Suraksha kiosks at Pamba base camp upon arrival:

· Parents / Guardians can pre-register their children for a Vi Suraksha Wrist Band by logging in to www.visuraksha.online or by visiting any Vi Store or Vi Mini Store across Kerala and get a digital registration ID before embarking on their pilgrimage

· During the pilgrimage, parents can show the digital registration ID at any of the Vi Suraksha kiosks at Pamba base camp and collect the QR-coded wristbands that are already linked with their contact number

· This facility is free of cost and is available for ALL pilgrims

Over the years, the Kerala Police has witnessed a significant rise in the number of child pilgrims, with around 10-15% of the total pilgrims last year being children. Simultaneously, each season, Kerala Police records hundreds of missing children cases, making child safety a key challenge during crowd management.

Pathanamthitta District Police Superintendent Anand R (IPS) officially inaugurated the pre-registration for the Vi Suraksha initiative in the presence of George Mathew V, Business Head, Kerala, Vi, at the Pathanamthitta District Police Office. The facility will be available at all 25 Vi Stores and 103 Vi Mini Stores across Kerala, with 3 Vi Suraksha kiosks set up at Pamba - conveniently located right next to the Virtual Queue Kiosks.

Last year, Vi distributed over 20,000 Vi Suraksha wristbands, helping the Kerala Police reunite over 150 missing children with their families during the pilgrimage.

Pathanamthitta District Police Superintendent Anand R (IPS) said “The District Police is happy to continue this collaboration with Vi under the Vi Suraksha initiative, which will greatly assist pilgrims and support our ongoing efforts to ensure their safety during the Sabarimala Yatra. The Vi Suraksha QR code bands will significantly aid our efforts in tracking children who get separated and help them reunite with their families.”

Commenting on the efforts, George Mathew V, Business Head - Kerala, Vodafone Idea, said “At Vi, our focus remains on leveraging technology to create safer and smarter communities. Each year, millions of devotees undertake the pilgrimage to Sabarimala, and ensuring their safety is of utmost importance. With Vi Suraksha’s innovative QR Code bands, families can stay connected and locate their children quickly in case of any unforeseen situations. Through our partnership with Kerala Police on the Vi Suraksha initiative, we are proud to once again help make this pilgrimage safer for children and worry-free for families. Our enhanced network across Nilakkal, Pampa, and Sannidhanam ensures devotees stay connected during their spiritual journey.”

Samsung To Strengthen Digital And STEM Education In Tamil Nadu; Launches DigiArivu Programme

To benefit over 3000 students across 10 government schools in first phase

Aims to transform the learning ecosystem in tier-2 and tier-3 districts of the state

DigiArivu will also offer career guidance for Class 12 students

Launched by Thiru Dr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Honourable Minister for School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu

Samsung, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, in partnership with the United Nations Global Compact Network India (UN GCNI), today launched ‘DigiArivu – Empowering Students Through Tech’, an education programme aimed at strengthening digital and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in Tamil Nadu.

Through this initiative, Samsung will upgrade school infrastructure, enable STEM and digital learning, train teachers, and support holistic student development across 10 government schools in Kancheepuram and Ranipet districts of Tamil Nadu — benefiting over 3,000 students. As part of DigiArivu, Samsung will deploy a multi-layered, community-centric model to transform the learning ecosystem in tier-2 and tier-3 districts.

The programme has been designed based on UN GCNI’s research with state government-run schools, inputs from Samsung employees in the Sriperumbudur manufacturing plant and community members in the region to ensure that interventions address real on-ground needs.

The key focus areas include upgrading the existing learning ecosystem in schools through Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) designs followed by providing equipment for promoting digital learning among school children. The programme will introduce activity-based learning on STEM themes and teacher-training sessions. Samsung will also provide sports kits and set up libraries with Tamil, English and competitive-examination books. It will offer career guidance to Class 12 students, provide education expert speaker series and health awareness camps for the school children. The programme also entails celebration of important days and events at schools along with community members.

The launch event organized at The Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram, was graced by Thiru Dr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Honourable Minister for School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu; and District Collectors of Kancheepuram and Ranipet; reaffirming the state’s commitment to strengthening STEM education in the state and advancing digital inclusion.

“Samsung has always believed that technology becomes truly powerful when it expands access, opportunity, and confidence for young people everywhere. Through DigiArivu, we are creating a digitally-enabled learning environment that will help students in Tamil Nadu build future-ready skills, strengthen their curiosity, and participate fully in India’s fast-evolving digital economy. Our focus is not only on introducing technology, but on empowering teachers, uplifting communities, and ensuring that every child — regardless of background — can benefit from quality digital education. DigiArivu is another strong step in our ongoing commitment to ‘Powering Digital India’ and nurturing India’s future talent pipeline," said SH Yoon, President, Samsung Chennai Plant.

“DigiArivu reflects what meaningful collaboration can achieve when business and society come together with a purpose. At UN Global Compact Network India, we are proud to partner with Samsung to advance STEM learning and digital access for children in government schools in Tamil Nadu. This initiative truly embodies the spirit of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — ensuring that no child is left behind in India’s digital future,” said Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director, UN GCNI.

In addition to DigiArivu, Samsung continues to strengthen youth skilling in Tamil Nadu through the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) programme. Under SIC, this year, Samsung is training 5,000 students in Tamil Nadu in high-demand future-tech domains such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Big Data, and Coding & Programming. The programme is being implemented in partnership with leading training and skilling organisations, enabling students across Tamil Nadu to gain industry-relevant technical skills and enhance their employability. Through SIC, Samsung is helping young learners in the state, prepare for careers in a rapidly developing future tech economy.
