Only 16% Of Gen Z In India Prefer A Traditional Full-Time Job: Randstad India’s ‘The GenZ Workplace Blueprint’ Report

Young professionals in India are choosing careers that combine pay, flexibility, and purpose, while showing less interest in traditional long-term roles.

●       43% of Gen Z in India prefer a full-time job with a side hustle, vs. only 16% who want a single full-time role.

●       38% of Gen Z plan to stay less than a year in their current jobs, showing higher mobility than other generations.

●       When it comes to picking the ideal job, pay remains the top priority (29%), followed closely by flexibility in location (23%) and flexible working hours (15%).

●       94% of Gen Z in India consider long-term goals when evaluating opportunities.

●       Better pay, flexible hours, and work-life balance are stronger retention drivers than traditional perks for GenZ.

GenZ (born 1997 - 2007) in India is rewriting workplace rules by prioritizing pay, flexibility, and purpose over traditional long-term jobs, according to Randstad India’s latest report - ‘The GenZ Workplace Blueprint’. This report highlights key trends in work preferences, career mindsets, retention drivers, and attitudes toward AI and learning. The findings reveal a generation that values financial security but equally demands autonomy, adaptability, and alignment with personal values.

Key Insights:

Key insights reveal a generation blending ambition with pragmatism. Indian Gen Z is redefining their career paths by seeking blended career paths way more compared to their global counterparts, seeking a balance between stability and entrepreneurial freedom.

●       Early Exits Triggered by Pay & Culture: Low pay (50%), misaligned values, and poor workplace culture are the top reasons for GenZ for quitting within a year.

●       Retention Hinges on More Than Perks: Better pay (37%), flexible hours (25%), and work-life balance (22%) are stronger motivators than extra leave or traditional perks. Some of the other interesting retention drivers include more travel opportunities (18%) and the ability to work remotely abroad (14%).

●       AI at Work: Excitement Meets Anxiety: While 82% of GenZ are enthusiastic about AI and 83% use it for problem-solving, 44% worry about its long-term impact on their jobs, a higher share than older cohorts.

●       Practical, Tech-Led Learning: 52% of GenZ actively learn through AI tools, complemented by on-the-job training (47%) and peer learning (44%).

●       Engaged and optimistic, yet cautious: 81% of GenZ feel fully motivated and engaged in their current role as compared to 92% of millennials and 91% of GenX. When it comes to dream jobs, 77% of Gen Z see their current role as a match, soaring past the global 58%, hinting at cautious optimism amid early career challenges.

Presenting the report, Viswanath PS, MD & CEO, Randstad India, a talent company, said, ”GenZ is reshaping the workplace with a rare blend of ambition, confidence, and adaptability. They want to grow fast, learn continuously, and embrace new challenges but they are equally uncompromising about their expectations. For them, compensation and financial stability are a given, but true engagement comes from flexibility, purpose, and opportunities to upskill.

Unlike previous generations, GenZ is not about tenure, it is about employers who invest in their growth and respect their need for balance. This shift is not a challenge but an opportunity for organizations to evolve. Employers who embed lifelong learning, inclusive cultures, and flexible policies will not just attract and retain Gen Z talent—they will build resilient, future-ready businesses.”

Milind Shah, Managing Director, Randstad Digital India, added, "The Indian Gen Z’s overwhelming preference for a 'full-time job with a side hustle' is a clear signal to the technology industry. They are a generation of digital natives who see technology as an enabler for both professional stability and entrepreneurial freedom. For us in the digital space, this translates to an urgent need to build roles that offer not just cutting-edge technology exposure, but also the flexibility and avenues for continuous AI-led upskilling they demand. Companies that actively foster this blend of technical excellence and personal autonomy will secure the next generation of top tech talent."

With GenZ set to comprise a growing share of India’s workforce, the findings underline the urgent need for companies to evolve talent strategies, workplace culture, and employee engagement models to keep pace with changing expectations.

ICICI Prudential Life Launches BSE 500 Enhanced Value 50 Index Fund To Enable Investors To Participate In India’s Growth Story

ICICI Prudential Life Insurance has launched the ICICI Prudential Life BSE 500 Enhanced Value 50 Index Fund, a new fund for its Unit Linked Insurance Plans (ULIPs). The fund aims to provide customers a platform to participate in India’s economic growth story by focussing on stocks which are fundamentally strong but currently offering value below their true potential.

The new fund, which is open for customers to invest in, will mirror the BSE 500 Enhanced Value 50 Index, which comprises 50 companies that are selected on value-based investment parameters such as earnings, book value and sales relative to price. The fund’s objective is to capture investment opportunities in fundamentally strong but temporarily undervalued companies, enabling customers to benefit as these stocks move towards their fair valuations over time.

This index fund follows a systematic, rule-based investment process and is reconstituted quarterly to ensure it remains aligned with evolving value opportunities across large, mid and small-cap segments. This will allow customers to access a diversified portfolio with minimal effort and low tracking error. Regulations may restrict the fund from investing in all the stocks in line with their weights in the index from time to time. As a result, there could be a possible tracking error. Historically, the BSE 500 Enhanced Value 50 Index has delivered a more resilient performance than its parent index in 12 out of 19 years from 2006 to 2024, highlighting the long-term potential of a disciplined value strategy.

Commenting on the launch, Mr Manish Kumar, Chief Investment Officer, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited, said, “The ICICI Prudential Life BSE 500 Enhanced Value 50 Index Fund, a passively managed fund, will offer our ULIP customers a simple and transparent way to participate in India’s growth story. It will offer them the proven philosophy of long-term value investing to build wealth.

Customers entrust us with their savings to achieve their life goals and as a customer-centric brand we endeavour to provide them with investment options which can ensure the fruition of their long-term financial goals.

We believe, the ICICI Prudential Life BSE 500 Enhanced Value 50 Index Fund will enable our customers to systematically save. Wealth creation is a long-term process and ULIPs, by design are ideal for this as they nudge customers to have a semi-forced discipline to investing. This index fund will enable our customers to achieve their long-term goals which could range from retirement planning to children’s education. Notably, the life cover offered by ULIP products ensures financial security for the family in case of an eventuality, besides being cost and tax efficient.”

With the launch of the BSE 500 Enhanced Value 50 Index Fund, the Company has further bolstered its range of investment solutions that are designed to make long-term wealth creation more accessible, enabling customers to be financially secure.

The BSE 500 Enhanced Value 50 Index Fund is available with some of the Company’s popular ULIP products such as ICICI Pru Signature Assure, ICICI Pru Smartkid Assure, ICICI Pru Smart Insurance Plan Plus (SIP+) amongst other ULIP products available on www.iciciprulife.com.

Why 26–35 Is The Next Growth Frontier For Term Insurance

One in four term insurance policyholders (25.24%) is aged 26–35, according to ABSLI data as of 31st March 2025. This makes young professionals a significant segment, though the 36–45 age group still leads at 41.68%.

For India’s young earners, the late twenties and early thirties are years of momentum as careers accelerate, families take shape, and ambitions expand. Yet despite this progress, the habit of securing long-term protection lags behind. According to data released by Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance (ABSLI) as of 31st March 2025, one in four term insurance policyholders is aged 26–35, making up 25.24% of the total active customer base.

While this is a substantial share, the 36–45 age group leads with 41.68%, followed by the 46–55 bracket at 23.96%. This reveals a critical gap: younger earners are postponing vital cover, missing out on the affordability and eligibility benefits that diminish sharply with age.

What Holds Young Earners Back

Many young earners juggle EMIs, discretionary spends, and savings goals, often making insurance feel secondary. Their relative youth and good health foster a sense of invincibility, leading to the belief that protection can wait. Even when they explore options online, the abundance of products and complex jargon can lead to decision inertia. Short-term priorities add to the problem, with more focus on visible wealth-creation tools like mutual funds or trading rather than the invisible but essential safety net of insurance.

For many, insurance also lacks the instant gratification that investments provide, making it harder to prioritise. In addition, peers and social circles rarely emphasise protection planning at this age, reinforcing the tendency to delay until life shocks or larger responsibilities make the need unavoidable.

Why Buying Early Matters

As incomes rise and financial independence grows, many 26–35-year-olds are laying the foundation for their future. Yet long-term protection often remains overlooked, even as young earners actively plan for their goals.

Securing cover in this window, however, delivers clear advantages: significantly lower premiums locked in for decades, higher eligibility with fewer medical exclusions, and policies that can be aligned with non-negotiable responsibilities such as loan repayments, retirement planning, and other long-term commitments. By postponing, young earners risk entering their forties and fifties when premiums rise steeply and medical conditions can limit access to adequate cover.

Reframing insurance for Young India

For insurers, this underlines the need to rethink their approach. Term insurance should not be framed merely as a safety net but as an enabler of aspirations. Protection can be positioned as the foundation that makes milestones like entrepreneurship, travel, or home ownership achievable with confidence.

Processes must reflect the digital-first, mobile-led lifestyle of this cohort, with transparency and ease of purchase as non-negotiables. Products too need to evolve, offering flexibility and everyday relevance through add-ons such as wellness benefits, savings riders, or tenure options that grow with life stage. Communication must shift from fear-driven narratives to authentic, empowering messages that resonate with ambition.

“As insurers, we must meet India’s young earners where they are: ambitious, digitally savvy, and eager to shape their futures. Term insurance should be seen as a lifestyle enabler, not just a backstop,” says Kamlesh Rao, MD & CEO, Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance.

Engaging the 26–35 cohort early creates mutual wins: customers gain affordable, comprehensive cover at the right stage of life, while insurers build long-term relationships that strengthen retention and trust. More importantly, nurturing early adoption will contribute to the sustainable growth of India’s life insurance industry, ensuring that the country’s young, ambitious population achieves both security and prosperity in tandem.

Winning In Sport Begins With Healthier Everyday Habits, Like Good Oral Health, Says Rahul Dravid

In a recent episode of Breakfast with Champions, legendary cricketer and Head Coach Rahul Dravid brought critical attention to an often-overlooked element of peak athletic preparation: oral health. Drawing on his experience at the highest level of competitive sport, Dravid highlighted how meticulous attention to the "smallest things" now defines the pursuit of excellence, confirming that oral health is fast becoming recognized as an essential factor in achieving and maintaining superior sporting performance.

Dravid emphasized that in modern, high-stakes competitions, success hinges on securing the slightest advantage, or the "1% margins". He asserted that dedication to physical condition now extends to every detail of an athlete’s well-being, especially oral health.

Dravid cited the example of elite global sport, noting that Hansi Flick, the coach of FC Barcelona, made oral health checkups compulsory for athletes, alongside their physical requirements. This decision underscores a growing global trend to elevate oral care from basic hygiene to an indispensable component of performance fuel. “You don’t necessarily think about this, but when I read that and read the research around it, it makes absolute sense. If you’re going to look after yourself as a professional athlete, you’ve got to look after your oral health as well,” Rahul Dravid said.

Reflecting on his own career, Dravid underscored this crucial link:

"Even looking after sometimes the smallest things can impact your performance and can make a difference in your performance…people are going to that level of attention and that level of detail looking after everything whether it's oral hygiene or nutrition everything makes a difference".

Proactively maintaining optimal oral health is vital to eliminating potential distractions and physical impediments, providing the competitive advantage athletes constantly seek. The strategy is clear: Prevent Problems. Perform Better.

Rahul Dravid’s compelling message serves as a timely reminder that for athletes striving for top performance, oral health goes beyond basic hygiene, it can quietly contribute to giving a competitive edge.
