TCS Partners With The Danish Academy Of Technical Sciences To Combat Dengue Through Technology And Citizen Engagement

* Piloted in Bengaluru, the project can be implemented worldwide to combat outbreaks of dengue fever

* TCS will provide data-driven technology support to the program through its pro bono initiative, TCS TECH4HOPE

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, has collaborated with the echo network, a global social innovation initiative hosted by the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV), to combat  outbreaks of dengue fever and other viral diseases. This collaboration aims to harness digital technology and citizen engagement to address pressing public health challenges.

As part of this initiative, TCS will provide technology support to echo network’s ‘I am OneHealth’ program in Bengaluru, India. Leveraging its TCS TECH4HOPE program – a pro bono initiative that provides technology solutions to non-profit organizations – TCS is driving impactful change by enabling communities to combat dengue through data-driven insights and citizen participation. The echo network is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, which supports public health and sustainability worldwide.

Torben Vedel Borchert, Scientific Director, Biotech, Novo Nordisk Foundation, Denmark, said, "It is important for us to support public health and sustainability projects globally, and since 2021 we have supported ATV's collaboration with the echo network in India. We have recently awarded a new grant for the effort in India, and we are excited to see how TCS can add an even greater local impact to the network."

TCS is at the forefront of this mission, helping local authorities with actionable insights to effectively prevent and control dengue outbreaks. Utilizing an interactive and free WhatsApp-based chatbot, the project engages school and college students to map hyperlocal environmental conditions impacting dengue transmission.

This citizen-generated data is then enriched with TCS’ advanced IT solutions that analyze humidity, temperature, and other location-specific parameters. The integrated data is transformed into real-time insights in collaboration with several Bengaluru-based organizations, contributing to a Vulnerability Index and an innovative Dengue Prevention Dashboard.

Vikram Sharma, Country Head TCS in Denmark said, "We are proud to collaborate with ATV and echo network on such an important project which not only brings the latest technology but also the citizens onboard. Through our TCS TECH4HOPE initiatives, we can draw on our own TCS colleagues from around the world to share their expertise pro bono. For this project, our colleagues from Europe as well as India are keenly involved to make it an overall success.”

Dengue, a rapidly growing health concern, is the most common mosquito-borne viral disease in many countries, including India. In 2024, the Bengaluru region alone reported over 14,000 cases. The ‘I am OneHealth’ program in collaboration with the Bengaluru Science and Technology Cluster,  an initiative by the office of Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India of India, unites local communities, academic institutions, and health authorities to fight viral diseases through technology and collective action. This pilot initiative in Bengaluru demonstrates TCS’ commitment to leveraging digital innovation for social good, with plans to replicate the model globally.

By fostering community engagement and providing technological expertise, TCS is committed to empowering societies to combat public health challenges and build resilient communities.

Cargill Inaugurates New Corn Milling Plant To Meet Growing Demand For Safe And High-Quality Food Solutions

* Set up on a business arrangement between Cargill and Saatvik Agro Processors, the plant will produce starch derivatives to serve the confectionery, infant formula and dairy industries

Catering to the growing demand from India’s confectionery, infant formula, and dairy sectors, Cargill inaugurated a new corn milling plant in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh set up by Saatvik Agro Processors, an Indian manufacturer.

With a combined market value of $15 billion, these sectors are witnessing high annual compounded growth rates of between 6 and 11% over next five years[1], leading to increased demand for starch derivatives which are used as thickening or stabilizing agents to achieve desired texture, viscosity and mouthfeel in consumer products like gummies, jellies, fillings, yogurt, cheese, processed milk and infant formula.

Cargill has a business arrangement with Saatvik who has established this dedicated production facility for starch derivatives with an initial output capacity of 500 tons per day, which can be expanded to 1,000 tons per day. This facility combines Cargill’s global product capabilities, customer network and market access opportunities with local manufacturing capabilities and operational know-how of the Indian partner to bring a consistent supply of safe, high-quality solutions to Cargill’s food manufacturing customers in India.

The plant will operate on an exclusive arrangement for Cargill, adhering to the company’s stringent global food safety and quality standards while also driving innovation, and process efficiencies for the industry. This further increases Cargill’s production capacity in India while creating supply chain efficiencies that food manufacturers rely on to meet growing consumer demand. The expansion will also enable Cargill to serve customers across North, Central, and Western India more effectively, reducing dependence on supply from the South, optimizing both costs and logistics.

While the facility will cater primarily to domestic demand, in future Cargill will also evaluate export opportunities to expand its market reach through this plant.

The plant was inaugurated by John Fering, Group President, Food APAC, Cargill and Simon George, President Cargill India and Managing Director Food South Asia.

Commenting on the launch, Simon George said, “This Gwalior plant allows us to strengthen our manufacturing network in India to serve customers from North and West India more competitively while enhancing supply chain efficiencies that benefit the entire food ecosystem. By increasing our access to local manufacturing capabilities, we are reducing supply timelines, increasing cost-effectiveness, and ensuring a more stable supply of essential food solutions that food manufacturers need to meet evolving consumer preferences.”

Furthermore, “this step reflects our commitment to fostering industry growth by integrating our global expertise with India’s strong manufacturing capabilities, supporting the growth of Indian entrepreneurs, ultimately creating more value for customers and consumers alike”, he added.

This initiative reflects Cargill’s ongoing commitment to be a go-to partner for innovation and growth for its customers – from food manufacturing, foodservice to retail – supporting them with essential and high-quality food ingredients and solutions, and thereby contribute to India’s growing food and beverage industry. The initiative also aligns with the ‘Make in India’ vision, fostering long-term, sustainable growth for both businesses and consumers.

AIGF, FIFS, And EGF Jointly Adopt The ‘Code Of Ethics’ To Promote Responsible Gaming Practices And User Safety

~ The Code of Ethics will apply to all online gaming operators who are members of the three federations and offer skill-based real-money gaming services in India~

~The Federations will conduct annual audits led by an independent third party to assess adherence to established regulations and guidelines~

~The Code of Ethics will be reviewed annually to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with industry and global best practices~

In a significant step towards promoting safe and responsible gaming, the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS), and the E-Gaming Federation (EGF), today jointly signed a ‘Code of Ethics’ (CoE). The CoE is aimed at enforcing consistent standards of user safety across the industry through the implementation of responsible gaming and advertising policies and mandates annual third-party audits and comprehensive reporting mechanisms to ensure accountability and transparency.

The CoE has been created based on global best practices and lays down a strong framework for responsible gaming such as age-gating, adopting stringent KYC and enabling user-set spending limits & self-exclusion.  It will apply to all online gaming operators who are members of the federations and offer skill-based real-money gaming services in India and safeguard the interests of over 50 crore Indian gamers.

Gaming operators with an annual revenue of INR 100 crores or more will have to implement the Code within six months from the date of signing, while those with annual revenues below INR 100 crores will have nine months to comply. Upon successful adoption, federations will issue a certification valid for one year which shall be renewable annually upon completion of a third-party independent audit. The Code will be reviewed annually to assess its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

Key Principles of the Code of Ethics:

*  Responsible Gaming Practices: Age gating, no operations in restricted states, and robust KYC mechanisms.

*  Player Protection: Safeguarding data, appropriate management of player funds.

*  Fair Gaming Practices: Ensuring integrity and fairness in gameplay.

*  Transparency: Providing clear and accurate information to players.

*  Informed Decision-Making: Enabling players to make well-informed decisions with options to self-exclude and set limits

*  Support for Vulnerable Players: Tools and resources for identifying and assisting at-risk players.

*  Responsible Advertising: Ethical advertising and promotions.

Roland Landers, CEO, All India Gaming Federation said, “As the largest and oldest industry association, we at AIGF believe that a thriving gaming industry must be built on the pillars of responsibility, transparency, innovation, and player protection. This Code of Ethics reinforces our commitment to fair play, compliance with Indian laws, and fostering a secure and responsible gaming environment. Through collaboration with other industry federations, we are setting new benchmarks for ethical gaming, strengthening the credibility of India’s online gaming sector, and building a sustainable, globally competitive ecosystem.”

Commenting on this initiative, Neil Castelino, Director General, FIFS said, "This joint code marks a significant step forward in our commitment to fostering a safe, fair, and responsible gaming environment in the country. By working together as an industry, we are setting a unified standard that prioritizes player well-being, integrity, and accountability across the industry. This we believe will be pivotal in ensuring a safe environment for the 24 crore FS users in the country."

Anuraag Saxena, CEO of EGF said, “National interest, consumer interest, and the industry’s interest have all suffered too long. Unethical gambling operators have been parasitically harming the nation, its exchequer, and its people. I’m delighted that the industry is collaborating on the joint code-of-ethics today. The adoption of these standards reinforces our commitment to accountability through third-party audits, responsible gaming policies, and ethical business practices. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, and the industry taking due cognizance of this is a great step ahead for gaming in India.”

The signing of the CoE follows a joint MoU signed by the three federations with ASCI to address the growing concern over illegal betting and gambling advertisements by offshore entities and highlights the proactive steps that the industry is taking to ensure user safety.
