Research By Alteryx Finds 79% Of Indian Business Leaders Have Concerns About AI-Produced Answers But Are Not Prioritising Skills

* Research by Alteryx finds that 79% of business leaders across India have concerns about AI-produced answers but are not prioritising skillsets that will help mitigate risks

Alteryx, Inc., a leader in AI for enterprise analytics, released findings from independent research revealing the workforce side effects of AI. As business leaders and recruiters across India prepare for an AI-infused labour market transition, many existing roles will evolve and become obsolete, reshaping the skill stack of the future workforce at an accelerated pace. However, the research titled Defining the Enterprise of the Future highlights a disconnect between the skills and traits currently prioritised during the hiring process and the attributes needed to reap AI’s greatest benefits.

New roles emerge as organisations prepare for the future

While AI may already impact the current workforce, it's critical to stay ahead, develop new skills and prepare for this ever-changing business landscape.

58% anticipate the emergence of the Chief AI Officer role will be critical to a more holistic approach to AI strategy that collaborates with business units from IT and compliance to HR and People teams. For context, just over 400 globally have CAIO in their LinkedIn job titles.

AI applications engineers (47%), responsible for designing and developing AI-powered models; AI/ML engineer (36%), focuses on researching, building and designing self-running artificial intelligence; and AI research scientists (35%), who drive innovation through the research and development of AI systems, are three most urgent hiring priorities cited by business leaders.

The future brings a new look to data and IT teams

As teams look to the future, the findings provide a snapshot of which roles are set to become obsolete, emerging roles to gravitate toward, and skills required for the evolving era of AI-infused intelligence.

Database administration (27%), Repetitive coding (21%), Single-language software development (16%), and AI and ML Development (7%) are among the technical skill sets that will become obsolete.

55% believe that over the next three years, the advanced tech talent landscape will be characterised by a talent surplus, and 66% say that there will be a surplus of general tech talent through the increasing accessibility and user-friendliness of generative AI technology.

Shifting priorities for the tech labour market

While the overall consensus is that humanity's importance increases in an AI world as humans will do what AI cannot, findings demonstrate a disconnect in skill focus. Despite the well-documented AI skills gap, where demand has far outstripped supply, many businesses still prioritise recruiting for roles with highly sought-after technical skills.

There’s growing recognition for soft skills in collaborating with and questioning the outputs of intelligent systems, so are leaders focused on the wrong recruitment priorities

While 75% of respondents say it is more important for their employees to be multi-skilled than specialising in a specific area, upskilling priorities still favour hard skills over soft skills.

Expertise in AI, software, data analysis and mining, and financial analysis and planning all ranked ahead of the most in-demand soft skills, including data literacy, strategic thinking, digital literacy, and team leadership.

58% cite creativity as the top skill humans will supply in a working world shaped by AI, followed by critical thinking (38%), emotion (35%), and morality (34%), yet only 19% counted critical thinking, and 25% counted creativity in the top three in-demand skills.

“The rapid rise of AI requires business leaders to build and shape the future workforce now to thrive or risk lagging behind in a future transformed by a seismic shift in the skills needed for the era of intelligence,” said Libby Duane-Adams, Chief Advocacy Officer at Alteryx. “Not all employees need to become data scientists. It’s about championing cultures of creative problem-solving, learning to look at business problems through an analytic lens, and collaborating across all levels to empower employees to use data in everyday roles. Continuous investments in data literacy upskilling and training opportunities will create the professional trajectories where everyone can “speak data” and exploit AI applications for trusted, ethical outcomes.”

“As India invests US$1.2 billion in a wide range of AI projects, the country’s is set to become a significant force for shaping the future of AI" said Souma Das, Managing Director, India Sub-continent at Alteryx. “As organisations gear up for the future, our research highlights how imperative it is to nurture a diverse workforce with a range of data and analytics abilities to ensure employees are empowered to navigate the dynamic landscape together. Therefore, it is crucial that we foster continuous learning and adaptability as organisations here in India chart their paths to be a beacon of responsible AI use that prioritises societal well-being alongside economic development.”

About the Research

The survey was conducted by Coleman-Parkes in September and October 2023, and targeted 2,800 IT decision-makers, data analysts, and line of business leaders about the enterprise of the future. Respondents were based in North and South America, Europe, Japan (150), India, Singapore, and Australia. There was equal representation of the public sector, manufacturing (including supply chain), financial services and banking, and technology. Companies ranged in size from fewer than 500 employees to more than 10,000. 60% had an average revenue of more than $1 billion.

The First Edition Of The NSF Nutrition Conclave Wraps Up With A Blueprint To Combat Malnutrition

~The NSF Nutrition Conclave was inaugurated in the presence of Ms. Veena S. Rao, Director, Auro Centre for Public Nutrition, Public Health and Public Policy and Former Advisor, Karnataka Nutrition Mission and Dr. K Madan Gopal, Former Senior Consultant, NITI Aayog. ~

Emphasizing effective strategies to break the cycle of malnutrition, the Nourishing Schools Foundation (NSF), in collaboration with Mount Carmel College, Autonomous, Bengaluru- Department of Home Science organized the first edition of the Nourishing Schools Foundation Nutrition Conclave. The Conclave, organized at Mount Carmel College, Autonomous, Bengaluru, was inaugurated in the esteemed presence of Ms. Veena S. Rao, Director, Auro Centre for Public Nutrition, Public Health and Public Policy and Former Advisor, Karnataka Nutrition Mission and Dr. K. Madan Gopal, Former Senior Consultant, NITI Aayog, as Special Guests.

The agenda of the Conclave focused on the need to enhance collaborative efforts between stakeholders and industry leaders in developing strategies to combat malnutrition. It included extensive panel discussions on various subjects, such as the significant role of empowering children in eradicating malnutrition, the integration of nutrition education through school curricula, the importance of impact assessment in combating malnutrition, and the transformative power of CSR in school nutrition-based initiatives.

Noting the success of the first edition of the Conclave, Ms. Archana Sinha, Co-founder and CEO of the Nourishing Schools Foundation (NSF), said, “We are immensely grateful to have hosted the first edition of NSF Nutrition Conclave 2024 – bringing together the country’s most distinguished changemakers in the nutrition and education sector under one roof. This Conclave was an effort to amplify conversations around malnutrition. We are grateful to Mount Carmel College, Autonomous for collaborating with us to organize this event. As we move closer towards India’s SDG target of eradicating malnutrition by 2030, NSF envisions further collaborative initiatives to accelerate the country’s battle against chronic hunger.”

Stressing the urgency of addressing good nutrition in the country, Ms. S. Veena Rao, Director of Auro Center for Public Health, Public Nutrition, Public Policy, Bangalore, and Former Advisor, Karnataka Nutrition Mission, Government of Karnataka, said, “A strong nation must have strong human capital. Much has been said about India’s demographic dividend, that 67.3% of our population is between 15-59 years of age, and that this demographic advantage will continue for another three decades. But we also know that at least fifty percent of this demographic dividend is afflicted by poor nutritional status, poor health, and morbidity, and will not be able to achieve its complete physical and cognitive potential. Students constitute our present and future demographic dividend and can become critical agents of change. They must be nurtured into becoming India’s strong human capital, especially those from less privileged sections of society. I wish Nourishing Schools Foundation great success towards achieving their goals.”

Highlighting the need for such insightful platforms, Dr K Madan Gopal, Former Senior Consultant, NITI Aayog, GOI, noted, “India has achieved remarkable strides in the battle against malnutrition, particularly in safeguarding the health of children and women, thanks to decades of dedicated policy initiatives. The convening of this Nutrition Conclave, drawing together prominent figures from diverse sectors, underscores the critical need to intensify our policy-driven efforts. As we zero in on our national aspiration to eliminate malnutrition within the coming decade, we must harness our collective resolve. This gathering symbolizes not just a meeting of minds but a united front against chronic hunger and undernutrition. Together, we stand at the cusp of transformative change, poised to secure a nourished and vibrant future for our nation.”

The Nutrition Conclave 2024 serves as a significant stride forward as it united the domain experts, policymakers, educators, and young advocates to explore strategies to combat malnutrition. Chronic malnutrition remains one of the most pivotal challenges – with over 36% of children under five years of age stunted in India. With this in consideration, NSF has been a frontrunner in positively impacting the nutrition of adolescents and has impacted over 60,000 schoolchildren across over 230 schools in over 4 states. NSF further aims to continue raising awareness about and implementing targeted interventions to improve nutritional outcomes and overall public health.

About Nourishing Schools Foundation

Incorporated in 2016 in Bengaluru, the Nourishing Schools Foundation (NSF) is a non-government organization that focuses on helping schoolchildren between 4th and 9th grades take charge of tackling malnutrition. NSF’s fundamental goal is to cultivate young changemakers capable of spearheading improvements in their own nutrition and that of their communities, through the incorporation of Nourishing School toolkits, which consist of curriculum, games, and activities to harbor nutrition education. Through its extensive efforts, NSF has impacted over 60,000 children since its inception, collaborating with over 230 schools across 4 states.
