Toyota Kirloskar Motor Announces The Inauguration Of Its First Regional Stockyard In Northern India

* New stockyard at Faruknagar in Haryana promises quicker delivery of vehicles delighting customers across seven states in North India

In line with its Customer-First philosophy of enabling easy access to world-class products and services to its customers, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today announced the inauguration of its first regional stockyard at Faruknagar in Haryana.

Ensuring a leaner and efficient distribution network across the region, the strategically located stockyard will reduce delivery time from the current 6-8 days to a maximum of two days for dealers in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Jammu & Kashmir.  This development by TKM will also benefit customers in the region who will now have speedier access to their favourite Toyota vehicles as a regional stockyard will ensure deliveries in the shortest possible time to dealers, considering proximity and availability to vast stock of all Toyota vehicles.

The five-acre stockyard which has a parking capacity of 900 vehicles, is the second such for TKM, following the launch of its first regional stockyard in Guwahati in 2020. The regional stock yard I Guwahati has majorly benefitted the dealers and customers in the North-eastern region of India. Furthermore, the Faruknagar stockyard will aid in speed, flexibility, cost reductions and more importantly CO2 reduction for, as dispatches from the TKM plant to the stockyard will be maximised through trains journeys. Currently, 60% of total TKM dispatches take place through trains and our aim is to increase the same to 80%, while being able to deliver 5,000 vehicles per month.

Embedded Security CTF 2022 Hackathon Hosted By The National Cyber CoE And IIT Madras

* A Hardware Security Skills Enhancing Initiative

Data Security Council of India’s National Cyber CoE & Centre on Hardware-Security Entrepreneurship Research & Development (C-HERD) program in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras Campus (IIT Madras), organized the grand finale of Embedded Security CTF 2022 (Capture the Flag) dedicated to Hardware Security technology and skill development. The inauguration of the event was held this week at IIT Madras campus, receiving pan India participation from students, researchers and corporate teams from but not limited to Texas Instruments, Larsen and Toubro Infotech Limited, Deloitte India LLP, Sony India, Shell, Harman International India Pvt Ltd, Carrier Technologies and CDAC Hyderabad.

The launch was inaugurated by Dr.N Sarat Chandra Babu, Executive Director, SETS Chennai; Mr. Arpit Dubey, Director, National CoE – DSCI; Prof. Krishna Moorthy Sivalingam, Head of Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT Madras; and Prof. Chester Rebeiro, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

This is a one-of-a-kind initiative in a key niche domain of Embedded security. The hackathon received immense response of 500 team registrations which included 1500+ participants across the nation. The problem statements of the CTF were based on Forensics, Crypto, Reversing, Nano Hardware, Networks, PWN, OSINT, and Web. The top 20 teams among the registrants, qualifying in two virtual rounds, designed, and evaluated by IIT madras, made it to the Grand Finale of Embedded Security CTF.

Over 48 hours of continuous hacking and brainstorming at the problem statements based on Chip Whisperer Nano hardware, the winners of the Embedded Security CTF 2022 were declared entitled for prize money of up to 5.75 Lac INR.

The key idea of this CTF was to identify the budding talent from the industry and academia in hardware security and engage with them for the upcoming initiatives and security operations of C-Herd, Centre for Hardware Security Entrepreneurship Research & Development, an initiative by IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras within National CoE.

Dr. N Sarat Chandra Babu, Executive Director, SETS Chennai, said, “This Embedded Security CTF 2022 is a great effort by the Data Security Council of India and IIT Madras to bring the young hardware security talented enthusiast from corporate and academia under one roof. He also mentioned that today the world is living in a smart environment working with sensors, accelerators, wireless networks and IoT embedded systems, However, due to advancements cybersecurity threats can be encountered at various levels i.e., individual, organizational and national levels taking advantage of modern solutions to pose the risk of active and passive attacks. To fight against these attacks, researchers, and innovative youth like the finalist of this CTF should work on the various state-of-the-art countermeasures that are secure and effective enough to prevent cyberattacks.”

Prof. Chester Rabeiro, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT Madras, said, "IIT Madras is in the frontier of hardware security research in the country, focusing on the design of secure embedded devices that keeps security as the primary objective along with performance and size. We follow a bottom-up approach making fundamental changes in the way computer hardware and Operating Systems are designed to develop secure devices with minimal overheads.”

Manipal Academy of Higher Education has won the prestigious award for best practice competition 2022 Trophy for its unique process “Paperless examination using Exam pad (E – pad)” under the Education category. The competition was conducted by IMC Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Award (RBNQA) Trust Mumbai.

The trophy was received at MAHE and was handed over by Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor to Dr. Vinod V Thomas, Registrar Evaluation in a formal function recently at Manipal. The efforts of the Team quality and Compliance were appreciated by the vice chancellor for their support and cooperation throughout the application process.

The aim behind the idea was to strictly prohibit the usage of papers for examinations as this process helped MAHE to reduce paper consumption drastically which in a way helped in protecting 500 trees during the past years.

Graced with the esteemed presence of Mr.Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, School Education, and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Govt of India, the 5th FICCI ARISE School Education Conference 2022 highlighted the necessity of a holistic collaboration between government, industry, and society to achieve the ambitious objectives of NEP 2020.

''The NEP 2020 (New Education Policy) envisages that we should be spending at least 6 percent of our GDP on education. Currently, we are spending only 4.6 percent of our GDP on education. It is imperative that while the economy is growing, we need to invest more on education,” said Mr. Kumar.

Addressing the ‘5th FICCI ARISE School Education Conference 2022’, Mr. Kumar also emphasised the role of technology in the education landscape and called for the re-imagination of our system.

“We are moving away from the book-based education system and technology is playing a key role in it. Also, liberal arts need to regain its ground and the industry, and academia must work towards it. Let us reimagine our system before we reboot,’’ said Mr. Kumar.

The secretary also stated that there are around 260 million students from classes 1 to 12 in the country who are attending 1.48 million schools of which 1.05 million are government schools. According to him, there are around 9.6 million teachers who are part of these schools, and hence it is crucial to address their training and infrastructure requirements.

''The government is committed to offering the necessary support to the sector and this is the time when we must start looking and capitalising on the NEP,” added Mr. Kumar.

Underlining the importance of the New Education Policy(NEP) 2020, Mr. Kumar said that the NEP 2020 incorporates the DNA of the society and how a society has to develop and build itself around education is envisaged in it.

''The NEP also focuses on foundational literacy and numeracy and looks at children till the age of 8,'' said Mr. Kumar.

The two-day inclusive conference kick-started with two comprehensive master classes-: School Improvement Framework and School Safety & Child Protection. The masterclasses focussed on the imperative need of establishing frameworks that are simple to understand and improve education delivery in schools. The masterclasses also pressed on creating an environment that ensures the safety & protection of children.

The second day of the annual flagship conference 2022 commenced with a welcome note by Mr. Subhra Kant Panda, President-elect, FICCI and Managing Director, Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd. who highlighted the four pillars of the National Education Policy(NEP) 2022.

''It is important to have the ability to learn, unlearn and relearn at every stage of life. “FICCI will be happy to collaborate with the government in working towards developing an effective implementation framework of the National Education Policy,” said Mr. Panda.

EdTech-Focused Accelerator Launched To Support Foundational Learning For Children From Low-Income Communities In India

* Newly launched EdTech Accelerator will help enhance access to at-home learning and improve foundational learning for children from low-income communities

* Investment of INR 20 Cr (2.5 million USD) over two years for solutions solving some of the most complex problems in the foundational learning EdTech space

A consortium of leading non-profit and philanthropic organisations in the education sector in India have launched the ‘EdTech Accelerator’ to support foundational learning of children at-home. This consortium benefits from the expertise and support of founding partners Reliance Foundation and UBS Optimus Foundation with design and implementation by Central Square Foundation, British Asian Trust as Fund Manager and the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing technical assistance to support the fund design and management.

Achieving universal Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills for children is critical to bridging the learning gap exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. EdTech solutions that can be used at home have significant potential to bridge this gap.

The Accelerator will fund eight high-quality EdTech solutions from both non-profit and private organisations that aim to build, pilot, measure, and test innovative ideas. Impact-focused grant funding and dedicated mentoring support will be available in year one, and grants to further scale up this work will be available in year two, thereby impacting up to 2.5 million children by 2025. Applications are now open for the EdTech Accelerator. 

The Accelerator forms an integral part of ‘Back-to-School Outcomes Fund’, which is a first-of-its-kind collaborative initiative alongside the Government of India’s NIPUN Bharat Mission to achieve FLN goals for all children in India.

The programme aims to support EdTech solutions that are seeking to provide access to affordable and quality learning solutions for low-income segments. It will also help organisations innovate to address challenges, and build evidence on learning outcomes, benchmarks and cost effectiveness, thereby supporting the education ecosystem to improve access to quality education at scale.
