Bandhan Bank Defends Against Advanced Threats with Security Solutions from Trend Micro

Trend Micro Incorporated, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, is now providing a comprehensive suite of cybersecurity solutions to Bandhan Bank across its endpoints, network, and datacenter. Consisting of 7,000 Trend Micro Apex One endpoint security solutions, two Trend Micro Deep Discovery Inspector solutions, and Trend Micro Deep Discovery Analyzer, the deployment helps secure Bandhan Bank against targeted attacks, unknown malware, ransomware, and zero-day threats across all IT touchpoints.

As a major bank with a pan-India presence, Bandhan Bank required a strong security strategy and outfit for its endpoints, networks, and servers. Prior to deploying Trend Micro solutions, it faced a myriad of challenges securing its complex IT environment. Firstly, its previous security solution was not able to handle the frequent malware attacks targeting its endpoints. Secondly, its help desk was overburdened with security requests. Last but not least, its security team lacked visibility across the organization’s IT assets, so there was no way to determine whether any of its systems were compromised by cyberattacks.

As a result of the deployment of Trend Micro’s solutions, Bandhan Bank gained a 90 to 95 percent increase in system uptime. Business operations now continues apace without interruption and the users are happy with the minimal impact on their devices and networks. In addition, through Trend Micro Control Manager, the bank’s IT team has now achieved centralized visibility, investigative capabilities, and a holistic view of the endpoints and networks across the organization. Shared threat intelligence and delivery of real-time security updates contribute to rapid detection and response to threats, ultimately reducing the call volume to the bank’s help desk.

“Bandhan Bank required a robust security solution that could proactively defend against the constant changes in the threat environment. Trend Micro’s solutions fit the bill and provide the highest level of security for our endpoints, networks, and servers without compromising operational performance,” said Dibakar Ghosh, Senior Vice President, Bandhan Bank.

Nilesh Jain, Vice President, Southeast Asia and India, Trend Micro said, “With the evolving threat landscape, banks across India and the region find themselves up against new and persistent attacks they’ve never dealt with before. By adopting multiple security solutions from us, Bandhan Bank is able to achieve what we call ‘connected threat defense’, an all-rounded security strategy providing unified visibility, management, control, enforcement, policy, and analysis for the disparate security sensors and control points throughout its IT infrastructure.”

Speaking on the deployment, Vijendra Katiyar, National Sales Manager, Trend Micro said, “Bandhan Bank chose Trend Micro by conducting a proof of concept (POC). The solution suite was implemented over three months by Bandhan Bank. We were also selected as the preferred solution provider thanks to our leadership position in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms since 2002, and our status as the ‘most effective recommended breach detection system’ for two years running, according by NSS Labs.”

Nutanix Extends Globally Beam to the Enterprise Private Cloud

Nutanix, Inc., a leader in enterprise cloud computing, has announced new updates to Beam which extend its cost visibility and optimization capabilities into on-prem deployments. With these new updates, Nutanix customers can get full visibility and insight into the entirety of their infrastructure environment, including public and private clouds, so they can choose the right cloud for every application. Applications that are more predictable, such as data back-up, databases and enterprise applications can be more cost-effective when operating in private clouds, while less predictable workloads like mobile/digital and IoT services can be more suitable for public cloud infrastructure. Beam will also now provide a global multi-cloud view so customers can visualize cloud spend patterns from a single dashboard, making it easier to make decisions which save their business money and ensure compliance with regulations.

According to a recent survey from IDC[1], “80% of customers report repatriating workloads from public cloud environments” and “the complexity of managing an increasingly disaggregated application portfolio across multiple landing zones is driving a sharper focus on TCO and performance for discrete elements.”

As organizations focus on wrangling public cloud deployments to gain more visibility into what is being consumed, existing private cloud deployments, including potential cost savings, are often ignored, resulting in an incomplete picture of a company’s enterprise infrastructure. Beam will now provide customers with cost visibility into Nutanix software licenses so they can understand the cost associated with their Nutanix private cloud environments, as well as with public cloud deployments on popular cloud platforms. In addition to having complete visibility across the entirety of their public cloud consumption, Nutanix customers will now be able to see how much they are spending on each Nutanix cluster they’ve set up and get advance notification when they need to add more software based on current consumption trends, all within a single management dashboard. This global view will finally enable customers to manage their entire IT infrastructure environment.

“We’re growing at an aggressive pace and with a large public cloud footprint, making sure that we have granular visibility and fine-grained control is crucial to ensuring we do not overspend,” said Anuj Gupta, CEO, Hitachi Systems Micro Clinic. “As we doubled our cloud deployments, Nutanix Beam identified so many savings that we saw no increase in our overall spend. We’re so excited to have that same visibility in our future on-prem deployments to ensure complete cost optimization across our multi-cloud infrastructure.”

Adding to existing support for all major public cloud platforms, providing customers with visibility and governance across their public cloud deployments, Beam’s newly added support for cost governance on Nutanix clusters provides:

Unified governance for all clouds – CIOs and I&O leaders can centrally control consumption across private, public and hybrid clouds, and make decisions on future consumption more efficiently
Continuous cost optimization – Beam conducts intelligent analysis of cloud consumption trends to provide a list of the type of product and timeline for future purchases to keep the cloud cost optimized for both private and public clouds
Cluster level cost analysis – Customers will be able to see the cost of their Nutanix clusters that have been deployed and cost of software licenses allocated to each cluster
“Hybrid cloud is no longer considered a brief stopping point in the journey toward an all public cloud future. It’s a first-class destination as customers realize they want the complementary benefits of the public and private cloud,” said Sunil Potti, Chief Product and Development Officer at Nutanix. “For this to be successful, companies need to understand how they’re using infrastructure no matter what the platform and from a single view. Nutanix Beam now provides that visibility so customers can finally make informed decisions about their entire infrastructure.”

Availability

Beam for Nutanix on-prem deployments is planned to be available by the end of 2018. Pricing details will be made available closer to the general release.

Twitter India Launches #PowerOf18 Initiative for Youth Civic Engagement

Voting rights emerged as the top response when asked what people would consider the power of turning 18 years old, according to a new survey from Twitter India. With this empowering insight, Twitter is launching today a social initiative called #PowerOf18 aimed at encouraging the youth of India to contribute to public debate and participate in civic engagement in the upcoming election season. Supported by Twitter’s mission to serve the public conversation, the initiative was launched by Jack Dorsey, CEO & Co-Founder, Twitter and  Maya Hari, Vice-President & Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Twitter in a Townhall chat with the students of IIT Delhi today. The campaign launch is marked by an emoji activated by the #PowerOf18 hashtag.

The research conducted with over 3,600 respondents aged 18 - 30 year olds, comprising Twitter and non-Twitter users, focused on people’s attitude in India in shaping the political and social environment. The survey found an overwhelming 94% of respondents indicating that they would vote in the upcoming elections. 87% of Indians surveyed believe that voting makes you a responsible citizen and more than half (53%) are voting because they want to make a difference.

The study also pointed towards the rising importance of social media for information consumption. 57% of youth surveyed would turn to social media to find out what’s happening in India and around the world, a percentage higher than all other mediums including newspapers. 69% of Twitter users surveyed always stay up to date with political news and events versus 44% of non-Twitter users.

Additionally, the survey found Twitter users more engaged in civic discussion versus non-Twitter users. 59% of Twitter users actively engage with and raise concerns to the government on issues that affect them or their community versus 37% of non-Twitter users. Two in three Indian Twitter users believe that they are contributing to the public debate by posting on Twitter.

In relation, Twitter India aims to encourage the youth of India with #PowerOf18 to leverage the platform for public conversation and vote for the future they seek. As part of the initiative, Twitter is kickstarting the initiative with an online video series on @TwitterIndia featuring young personalities across India such as Indian singer Jassie Gill (@JassieGill), Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen (@Nikhat_Zareen), writer, poet and #MeTooIndia voice Mahima Kukreja (@AGirlOfHerWords), sharing about their inspirations and their view of #PowerOf18. Twitter seeks to work with more like-minded partners and personalities to create awareness of the importance of voting.

Announcing the initiative at IIT Delhi today, Maya Hari, Vice-President & Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Twitter said, “Our philanthropic mission is to make the world a better place by harnessing the positive power of Twitter. Our company embraces this mission by focusing our support where we can make the greatest impact. Today, we launch #PowerOf18 to encourage the youth of India in taking your place as changemakers and join the most important public conversation for the country - the state and national elections.”

The #PowerOf18 campaign launch at IIT Delhi, concluded with a Q&A round where students had the opportunity to submit their questions to Jack with #PowerOf18.

Several questions focused around Twitter’s role in shaping society and culture, youth activism, upcoming general elections and the importance of voting were raised during the Townhall at IIT Delhi:

Twitter will be fuelling #PowerOf18 conversations through @TwitterIndia as part of this initiative. #PowerOf18 will serve as a resource for all young Indians to find more information about the elections, support social causes they are passionate about, and join the public conversation. The platform aims to engage more young people in India to contribute to public debate and work with like-minded partners that share the same objective of encouraging civic engagement among the youth.

The nationwide survey was conducted with 3,622 youth respondents from India between 24 September - 19 October 2018. The survey methodology qualifies the respondents as minimally secondary literate, aged between 18 - 30 years old.
