Toyota Kirloskar Motor Inaugurates Community-Based Water Purification Unit In Keerala, Mandya District

Continuing its unwavering dedication to improving the health and quality of life among local communities, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today inaugurated a community-based water purification unit in Keerala, Mandya district of Karnataka. The event was graced by Mr. P Ravikumar, Member of Legislative Assembly of Mandya and Mr Roshan R, Deputy General Manager, TKM and other senior officials. Considering the urgent need for a drinking water unit, this facility is a lifeline for the community, thereby ensuring they have access to safe and clean drinking water.

The recently established unit has a capacity to purify 1000 litres of water per hour. It incorporates a comprehensive 6-stage purification process and a real-time water monitoring system that provides valuable data on Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and PH value. Moreover, the unit is equipped with solar power systems, backup power solutions, and an efficient wastewater management mechanism, ensuring optimal water dispensing while minimizing energy consumption.

To ensure the smooth operation and sustainability of the unit, TKM has entered into a 15-year maintenance agreement with a dedicated agency. This agreement guarantees the availability of clean drinking water to the beneficiaries and upholds the long-term viability of the initiative. TKM's collaboration with local Grama Panchayats and the community has also played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of such initiatives, fostering a sense of ownership and collective responsibility among all stakeholders involved.

Cumulatively, TKM has installed 46 water units to date, benefitting over 3.1 lakh individuals, residing in 285 villages across India. This significant milestone exemplifies TKM's unwavering dedication to prioritizing the well-being of community members, ultimately contributing to their holistic socio-economic development.

Mr. P Ravikumar, Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly, Mandya, said “Ensuring access to clean water is paramount for promoting good health and is a fundamental necessity for human survival. We are happy that the newly established water purification unit will significantly enhance the overall health outcomes of the local community, thereby contributing to the creation of a healthier society.”

Speaking on the initiative, Mr Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “Promoting public health and improving access to clean drinking water have always been at the forefront of our mission to promote healthy community. By expanding the deployment of community-based water purification units, we are taking significant strides in offering scalable solutions that address the immediate needs of the community. Our commitment remains unwavering as we strive to implement impactful initiatives that truly make a difference and positive impact in the lives of individuals and communities.”
