Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) is a growing business segment and is expected to generate an income of $640 million by the year 2011. The industry is also expected to be the fastest growing outsourcing business, according to a report released by the research agency.
The findings based on ValueNotes maintains that India is expected to have a major share in this forecasted revenue from LPO, which will also open huge employment opportunities in India.
"LPOs are seen as a more stable career option than opportunities in the mainstream IT and ITeS sector.
Unlike other segments in outsourcing, the LPO segment has seen a robust growth even during recessionary times, thus providing a stable career option," said Lokendra Tomar, Chief Operating Officer, Asia-Pacific, Integreon, a LPO firm.
The LPO industry will be generating employment opportunities for all the lawyersincluding lawyers, graduates, freshers and MBAs.

Has Wipro axed 33 employees across centres?
IT companies HR teams too have not been left untouched by pink slips. According to a web report, Wipro has given marching orders to a as many as 33 of its employees who formed the part of the company's candidate relationship management team.
The team was specifically responsible for talent acquisition. However, with a hiring freeze across centres, these recruiters had little to do.
The report quotes an employee who on the condition of anonymity said that they were told on March 17 that they have only thirteen days left in the organisation. By March 30, all the team members were relieved from service and the team was dissolved. According to him, none of them were given notice.
Earlier in February, the company said it would honour the job offers it made to 8,000 freshers, though there is a possibility of this spilling over to next year.

Is Wipro set to hire 8,000 freshers?
Is the country's third-largest IT company bucking the hiring trend? Yes, so says the website ITexaminer.
According to a report on the site, Wipro is making around 8,000 campus offers this fiscal year. In an email sent to all freshers seeking jobs in areas such as technical support and offshoring, the IT major has invited applications for 15,000 seats, says the report.
In the mail, the company's corporate vice president for human resources, says that nearly 14,000 offers were made last year, with the students expected to join by the end of this fiscal. He emphasised that there has been no delay in new recruits joining the company, and that those who received offers this year are expected to join the firm within the next fiscal year.
Incidentally, for the first time ever, Wipro in its Q3 report, showed a drop in its employee headcount in the IT services business by about 1,100 as compared to the earlier quarter.
The company went down by 1,092 software engineers and 226 BPO employees during the quarter. Wipro had 96,965 employees as of December 31, 2008, which includes 75,385 employees in IT business unit and 21,578 employees in the BPO unit.
In the JAS quarter, the company had 97,552 employees as of September 30, 2008. Though volumes have grown year-on-year (y-o-y), the number of employees has remained stagnant at year-ago levels.
