MAHE MIT Manipal And The University of Surrey Sign An Agreement For Integrated Masters And Dual Degree Programs


Under the auspices of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Surrey, UK, marking a significant step in fostering international academic ties. By introducing Dual Degree and Integrated Masters programs, this partnership promotes global education and research while improving students' academic and career opportunities worldwide.

Two different academic pathways are made possible by the agreement:

Dual Degree Program (1+1): Students will acquire masters degrees from both universities after completing a year of postgraduate work at MIT Manipal and a second year at the University of Surrey.

Integrated Master's Program (3.5+0.5+1): To obtain  their master's degree, undergraduate students must complete 3.5 years of coursework at MIT Manipal, a six month’ capstone project supervised by the University of Surrey,  and a final year at the University of Surrey.

The formal signing ceremony was attended by esteemed representatives from both institutions, including Prof. Max Lu, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Surrey, Prof. Satheesh Krishnamurthy, Director of the Surrey Ion Beam Centre, and Dr. Tina Schilbach, International Partnerships Manager. Their presence, alongside distinguished dignitaries from MIT and MAHE—Dr. (Cdr). Anil Rana, Director of MIT Manipal, Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Pro Vice Chancellor - Technology & Science, and Dr. Sharath Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor – Health Sciences—underscored the significance of this alliance in expanding academic horizons and facilitating cross-border educational opportunities.

Mudrex Reports 10X Rise In Women Crypto Investors For 2024-25


* Metro Cities and Tier-1 Urban Centers Drive 75% of Female Crypto Adoption

Mudrex, a leading crypto investment platform in India, has reported a remarkable 10X increase in women investors in 2024-2025 compared to the previous year. The findings, revealed through a recent survey conducted ahead of International Women’s Day, highlight the growing participation of women in India’s crypto ecosystem.

According to Mudrex’s data, women aged 25-30 make up the largest segment of female investors, accounting for 53% of the total. They are followed by women aged 31-35 (36%), while younger investors aged 18-24 represent 11% of the user base.

Maharashtra leads in female crypto adoption, contributing 15% of the total women investor base. Karnataka follows with 11%, while Delhi NCR (9%) and Uttar Pradesh (8%) also show strong participation. West Bengal accounts for 7%, with the remaining 50% of women investors spread across states like Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and others—demonstrating the nationwide appeal of crypto investments. While the crypto market remains largely male-dominated, there is a noticeable steady uptick in female investors, yet making significant strides in the space.

Over 75% of women investors are from metro and Tier-1 cities, while 25% are from small cities, highlighting greater awareness in metros and a rising adoption trend in smaller cities. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin and Solana have emerged as the most popular investment choices among female investors, reflecting their preference for established assets. Additionally, meme coins like Dogecoin, Shiba Inu and Pepe are gaining traction, signalling an increasing interest in trending meme coins.

Commenting on this, Mr Edul Patel, CEO & Co-founder of Mudrex said, "The crypto and Web3 space is evolving rapidly, and more women are stepping in to shape its future. The insight could reflect a balance between risk-taking and risk management among women investors in crypto.

62% of women discuss financial decisions with their family and social circle, while 38% make their own decisions. Additionally, 33% of women learnt about crypto from news, 40% from social channels, and the remaining 27% from other sources.

“Beyond investing, many women are also looking to build careers in Web3. To support them, our  women's team runs mentorship programs offering career guidance and industry insights. The survey revealed women on Mudrex’s platform invest in crypto for various reasons, including personal financial goals, wealth diversification, early retirement planning, and a strong interest in technology.

Concerns about crypto market volatility, uncertainty over which coins to invest in and how much to invest, and a lack of financial awareness around emerging asset classes are the most common challenges.

A recent study in the US showed that 76% of non-remote corporate workers eat lunch at their desks at least half the time because of convenience and productivity advantages.  

AI collaboration helps you stay on top of tasks and reclaim time for yourself. Our research shows more mature AI collaborators in India save up to 127 minutes daily. This reclaimed time allows employees to stay on top of their tasks while also prioritizing balance and well-being.

This extra time isn’t just a productivity booster—it also supports better balance and overall wellness. As AI adoption increases, workers report feeling less overwhelmed and more capable of completing their core responsibilities.

Doctors At Narayana Health Use Robotic Technology To Save Life Of 50-Year-Old Patient With Life-Threatening Lung Tumour


*        Managing the tumour without removing the lung was nearly impossible using traditional methods as it would have risked injuring the surrounding blood vessels, leading to severe bleeding.

*        The three dimensional visualisation offered by the da Vinci robotic system enabled the surgeons to precisely remove the tumour without any bleeding and successfully preserve the lung.

A team of expert doctors at Narayana Health Hospital, Bangalore, recently saved the life of a 50-year-old patient who was suffering from a complex lung tumour using robotic-assisted surgery. The surgery was led by thoracic surgeon Dr. Vijay CL, with the help of the advanced robotic system, da Vinci.

The patient had a chronic cough and was misdiagnosed with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) before arriving at the hospital. A CT scan revealed that he had a large tumour in the right side of the lung, which was blocking the entire lung. A bronchoscopy was done to examine it further, which resulted in incessant bleeding – making a biopsy impossible.

After assessing the patient’s scans and medical records in detail, the team led by Dr. Vijay decided to go ahead with a surgery upfront as this was a rare case where even a biopsy was not possible.

“In such cases where the tumour sits on the right bronchus (windpipe), it is usually very difficult to preserve the lung. Doctors usually go ahead with a pneumonectomy, a procedure to remove the lung in order to prevent the tumour from spreading and proving fatal. However, the procedure is complicated, carries a lot of risk and significantly reduces patient lifespan and quality of life. This is why we decided to go for a minimally-invasive approach,” said Dr. Vijay C L,   Thoracic surgeon at Narayana Health Hospital, Bangalore.

After evaluating the situation, the team proceeded with robotic-assisted surgery. From the outset, the patient presented significant challenges due to severe infections caused by the tumour blocking the lung, leading to sputum retention and widespread infection. As the team advanced toward the tumour, they encountered numerous new blood vessels around it, a result of its prolonged presence and repeated infections.

“As the surgery progressed, we carefully controlled bleeding, removed lymph nodes, and freed the tumour while preserving the lung’s critical blood supply. Unlike typical lung cancer surgeries, where blood vessels are divided along with the bronchus, this procedure required safeguarding the arteries and veins to maintain lung function. The three-dimensional visualization offered by the robotic system enabled precise tumour removal without bleeding and ensured the preservation of the lung,” Dr. Vijay added.

From a critical situation where the patient risked losing his entire right lung, the team was thus able to achieve complete tumour removal, restored full functionality, and extended the patient’s lifespan using robotic-assisted surgery. He was discharged within three days post-surgery, and is recovering well.

Expressing gratitude, the 50-year-old patient said, “I am grateful for the excellent care provided by Dr. Vijay CL and the surgical team at Narayana Health. They counselled me about the benefits of undergoing robot-assisted surgery and executed the surgery to remove the tumour safely without any complications. Without their support and care, I would not have recovered so quickly and returned to my normal life sooner than I expected.”

According to Dr. Vijay, these types of tumours, when completely removed with clear margins, have an excellent long-term prognosis. Unlike lung cancer, which carries a significant risk of recurrence even after treatment and has a limited 5- or 10-year survival rate, these tumours offer the possibility of decades of healthy living.

“In fact, many patients who underwent similar surgery in their 20s continue to lead healthy lives well into their 40s or 50s, provided they maintain regular follow-ups. These tumours rarely recur, enabling patients to achieve a near-normal life expectancy,” Dr. Vijay stated.

Bengaluru, India, March 6th, 2025:  Samsung India, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, has unveiled the “Solve for Tomorrow” documentary, which captures the inspiring journeys of the young innovators from across India in shaping ideas to solve some of the pressing problems of society.

The documentary highlights the creativity, ingenuity, and resilience of the winning teams – Eco Tech Innovator and METAL and their innovative yet distinct approaches to tackle one of the most pressing social issues of India – arsenic contamination of water. The documentary is slated for release on JioHotstar on February 28 – celebrating India’s National Science Day.

Samsung “Solve for Tomorrow” is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) based competition designed to create an innovation ecosystem in the country and foster problem solving skills of young minds. No matter where the participants come from, Samsung’s flagship CSR initiative has made it a mission to nurture their creativity and vision to resolve challenges that their communities face.

The third edition of this programme feature participants from remote regions of India, underlining the reach of this initiative. Sayed Safrahan Ullah Khabir of Team Eco-Tech belongs to Golaghat in Assam, while the three members of Team Metal originate from Bihar.

“There are always two ways of looking at life and problems: one is to simply sit and complain about it, and the other is to think and visualize a solution that can change lives for good,” said Sayed Safrahan Ullah Khabir, from Team Eco Tech Innovator (School Track). “Someone had to solve the problem of arsenic contamination that has plagued my state, Assam, for generations—this was the thought that started my innovation journey. Initially, my family was not very convinced, but over time, they began to believe in my vision.”

For Arpit Kumar from Team METAL (Youth Track), innovation is not just about high-tech start-ups. “Innovation is a unique idea that can be a solution for a real-world problem of a community and for the country. It is not always about sophisticated technology — sometimes, the biggest challenges need simple yet effective solutions,” he said.

His teammate, Abhijit Kumar further emphasized that innovation knows no boundaries. “It does not matter where you come from; you can be an innovator from a town, city, or a village. If you give 110% effort to your idea, you can make an impact. In my state of Bihar there is someone affected by arsenic contamination in water in every 20 kms and as a result constantly dealing with chronic and terminal illnesses. Our work aims to change that.”

This documentary followed these innovators back to their roots, their villages, cities and towns where they first came up with their ideas.

The documentary highlights the intrinsic idea of both the teams - Eco Tech Innovator and METAL – and how they implemented their respective solutions through comprehensive graphic explainers.

Team Eco Tech Innovator, hailing from Golaghat, Assam, developed a non-electric, affordable filter designed to remove arsenic from water and convert it into a valuable bioproduct. The filter uses a multi-layer filtration system with fluoride and arsenic elimination, pH balancing, and essential mineral infusion, ensuring safe drinking water. The solution provides communities with access to clean water while creating economic value by transforming contaminants into useful byproducts.

Team METAL, based in Udupi, Karnataka and Patna, Bihar, designed a three-stage filtration structure that efficiently removes arsenic from groundwater. The process begins with basic pre-filtration, followed by a multi-zone purification system, and ends with post-filtration using a semi-permeable cloth membrane. Their technology ensures the delivery of clean, safe drinking water to underserved communities.

Transforming Lives with Innovation

The “Solve for Tomorrow” programme, Samsung’s flagship CSR initiative has brought together over 6000 participants from across India. At every stage, the participants competed with the support and guidance provided by Samsung and FITT, IIT Delhi to reach the Finale stage, where 10 finalists pitched their ideas, and two teams were declared winners. Eco Tech Innovator and METAL, are awarded INR 25 lakh and INR 50 lakh respectively to support the further development of their solutions, including prototype enhancement and incubation at IIT-Delhi.

A National Movement

“Solve for Tomorrow”, is a national education and innovation competition for the next generation. Launched in 2022 in India, the programme has become a national movement in the country witnessing participation from schools and colleges. The participants of the programme are no longer restricted to just cities and metros, but are hailing from tier 2, tier 3 cities and the farthest remotest areas of India.

Background of the Winning Teams

Safrahan, a high-school student is the individual behind Team Eco Tech Innovator. Hailing from Golaghat, Assam, he has been focusing on developing a low-cost and sustainable water purification solution for over two years and got his recognition with Samsung Solve for Tomorrow. He is currently raising awareness about the pressing problem of arsenic-led water contamination in the rural communities of Assam.

Team METAL, comprising of Arpit Kumar and Shambhavi Sinha, undergraduate students from Udupi, Karnataka and Abhijeet Kumar from Patna, Bihar, have been working together for the past six years, dating back to their school days. Their collaboration has led to the development of a breakthrough arsenic removal technology, with the potential to significantly affect water safety and sustainability. At present, they are incubated at Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer at IIT Delhi.

Women Investors Embrace Mutual Funds: Key Insights From PhonePe Wealth


*        Women investors' average SIP transaction value was approximately 22% higher than that of male investors*

This International Women's Day, PhonePe Wealth highlights the steady rise in women's participation in Mutual Funds on its platform, along with their growing commitment and contribution amounts. PhonePe Wealth analysed the investment patterns of 1 Lakh women investors from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024, and the data highlights that women are making strategic and substantial investments, taking steps toward securing their financial future.

The data for the period mentioned above reveals that the average Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) contribution from female investors is approximately 22% higher than male investors, while their average lump sum investments surpass those of men by approximately 45%. This data provides a different perspective on women's approach to financial markets and risk.

"We acknowledge the increasing participation of women investors and their evolving role in the financial landscape," said Nilesh D Naik, Head of Investment Products, Share.Market (PhonePe Wealth). He further added, “Our data shows that women investors are both participating and actively investing. Today, we believe that women investors are financially aware and independent, diversifying their portfolios, and investing with a long-term vision and the notion of women being financially conservative is a thing of the past.”

Key insights from a survey of 1,00,000 women investors of PhonePe Wealth Mutual Funds for the duration January 1,  2024 – December 31,  2024:

*        90% of women investors begin with Systematic Investment Plans, demonstrating preference for disciplined, long-term investing.

*        Women investors maintain an average SIP transaction value of ?1300, approximately 22% higher than men.

*        Women exceed the average lump sum investment by approximately 45% as compared to male investors.

*        Women are playing a pivotal role in driving financial inclusion, with a prominent share from Maharashtra (20%), Karnataka (12%), and Uttar Pradesh (9%) leading the growth.

*        Approximately 72% of women investors come from B30 (Beyond Top 30) cities, highlighting the increasing reach of Mutual Funds beyond major metros. Cities like Varanasi, Ranchi, Dehradun, Guwahati, and Vadodara are seeing increasing participation from women investors, highlighting their involvement in wealth creation.

*        Nearly 50% of women investors hold contra / value funds. Other popular investment categories are flexi-cap, mid cap, small cap, and thematic funds. This diverse fund selection reflects their understanding of portfolio diversification, strategic investing, and calculated risk-taking.

*        74% of women investors are 35 years or younger, with the largest segment (29%) aged 26-30 years.

*        Women largely invest between 9 AM and 4 PM, with 44% of transactions occurring during this window.

Union Bank Of India Launches “Nationwide Mega MSME Outreach Campaign”


Union Bank of India has launched a nationwide Mega MSME Outreach Campaign, a week-long initiative aimed at empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), fostering entrepreneurship, and promoting financial inclusion.

The campaign was formally inaugurated in Bengaluru by A. Manimekhalai, Managing Director & CEO, Union Bank of India, who emphasized the Bank’s commitment to strengthening the MSME sector through financial support, digital solutions, and awareness initiatives. Speaking at the launch event, she stated:
