HDFC Bank Parivartan Showcases Unique Water Conservation Initiatives With #WaterWonders On World Water Day


·         As part of water conservation efforts under its CSR programme Parivartan, the Bank has identified key goals like bringing two lakh acres of unirrigated land under irrigation by March 31, 2025 enhancing water access for farmers and mitigating water scarcity.

HDFC Bank, through its CSR initiative Parivartan, celebrates World Water Day with a digital campaign #WaterWonders, emphasising the importance of water conservation and celebrating innovative measures for water conservation. Aligned with global and domestic efforts to combat climate change and protect vital resources, the Bank is committed to improving water conservation through initiatives such as watershed development, rainwater harvesting, and efficient irrigation systems.

Across India in places like Ladakh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana & Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Sikkim, Parivartan has constructed over 14,360 water conservation structures as part of its comprehensive water management efforts and to build climate-resilient agriculture.

These projects focus on mobilising communities to restore degraded landscapes and ecosystems. Water availability is enhanced through check dams, gabion structures, improved irrigation infrastructure and soil and rainwater harvesting. Beyond improving agricultural productivity and livelihoods, these efforts empower women and strengthen community well-being.

Innovative solutions such as drone-based irrigation are further transforming water efficiency, ensuring precision watering while reducing consumption and crop damage. By March 31, 2025, HDFC Bank Parivartan aims to bring two lakh acres of unirrigated land under irrigation, enhancing water access for farmers and mitigating water scarcity.

One of the standout projects within this initiative is the adoption of the ice stupas. The Bank has partnered to scale up the Ice Stupa projects in Ladakh, a region facing water shortages due to climate change. The initiatives undertaken by HDFC Bank Parivartan in Ladakh, as in several other locations, are examples of how local challenges need locally tailored solutions.

Ladakh faces a growing climate threat, with glaciers in the Drass basin thinning by 1.27 meters between 2000 and 2020, leading to severe water shortages, as per European Chemical Society’s Environmental Science and Pollution Research. Precipitation has dropped by nearly 50% in some areas over the last two decades, while rising temperatures—up by 1.5°C over the past century—are accelerating glacial melt, further depleting vital water resources, as per an IIT Kanpur study. These shifts are putting the region’s water security and agricultural livelihoods at risk.

Ice Stupas are artificial glaciers that work by diverting stream water during winter that freezes it into cone-shaped structures. As they melt during the spring, they provide a steady supply of water for agriculture. To further enhance their effectiveness, automation technology is now being integrated to regulate water flow, optimise ice formation, and monitor weather patterns in real time. This enables water management, and makes the Ice Stupa solution impactful in mitigating climate change effects, promoting water security and supporting local economies.

With support from HDFC Bank Parivartan, four new Ice Stupas serving seven villages have been built for the winter season of 2024-25 with a storage capacity of over 20 million litres of water. A total of seven stupas in Ladakh have been supported by HDFC Bank through its implementation partners.

Philips IGT Engineers' Clinical Consultancy At MAHE, Manipal


MAHE's Office of Corporate Relations and Kasturba Medical College (KMC) jointly presented a Clinical Consultancy Delivery Program for Philips Image Guided Therapy (IGT) engineers' leadership team on March 20-21, 2025. Twenty engineers from Philips Innovation Campus -Bangalore, attended the program focused on Image Guided Therapy. Designed to bridge the gap between engineering and healthcare, the program enhanced participants’ understanding of medical device integration in clinical settings.

The two-day program featured KMC faculty leading classroom sessions on cardiac and radiology device functionalities and applications. Hands-on training with advanced technologies provided practical experience in patient care.

Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, (VSM), Vice Chancellor, MAHE stressed the importance of integrating technology and medicine for healthcare advancement. He envisioned AI-driven diagnostics and remote monitoring improving medical practices.  He expressed confidence that the program would empower Philips engineers to drive healthcare progress and improve patient outcomes.

Water conservation at Akshayakalpa Organic isn't a practice—it's a lifestyle. All this has resulted in a drastic lowering of Akshayakalpa Organic's virtual water footprint for the production of a kilo of mixed vegetables that normally stands at 150-180 liters, far below India's national average of 220-300 liters.

Additionally, these rainwater conservation systems, implemented at our model farms in Tiptur, Pooriyampakkam, and Shadnagar, have been successfully replicated across all our farmer farms. This ensures that every Akshayakalpa farmer follows sustainable water management as an integral part of organic farming practices.

Key Features of Rise:

·         Flexi-Pay Benefit: A significant portion of India’s population works in an informal sector; self-employed, own small businesses, daily wage earners and gig workers; with inconsistent monthly incomes. In order to provide affordability to this group, for the first time ever flexi-payment has been introduced for purchase of health insurance cover, wherein customers can start their policy by paying a token amount of just 20% of the total premium amount and pay the rest anytime during the policy tenure. The sooner they complete the payments, the higher the discount they receive.

Example – For a total premium of INR 10,000, the customer just needs to pay INR 2000 (20% of 10,000) token amount to start the policy and pay the balance premium anytime within the policy tenure. In order to keep the policy active, the customer just needs to pay INR 400 (5% of the balance premium of INR 8000) as monthly subscription.

·         Smart Cash Benefit: The plan offers something to the customer even when they wish to avail treatment for free in a government hospital. If the customer decides not to visit a private hospital and does not make a claim under the ‘Rise’ policy for their treatment, they can claim a guaranteed cash pay-out of ?5,000 from Niva Bupa upon submission of his discharge summary from the government hospital to take care of their post-treatment expenses.

·         Return Benefit: Yet another industry-first feature being introduced with ‘Rise’ is return of 50% of total premium paid by the customer as an additional sum insured, over and above the base sum insured. So, for a 10,000 premium INR 5,000 will be returned back to the customer as additional sum insured. This amount will accumulate for lifetime with 10% Bonus being added on the accumulated amount every year. No Waiting Period or Exclusion will be applicable on this ‘Return’ Sum Insured.

In addition to these benefits, the product offers unlimited digital consultations in 16 vernacular languages so that customers can consult with general practitioners anytime, anywhere, unlimited times. ‘Rise’ comes with host of optional benefits which provides customers the option to modify their room type category, remove capping of INR 50,000 on modern treatment and increase the limit up to base sum insured.

These initiatives help position TKM toward becoming a Zero Liquid Discharge plant progressively moving towards water positivity.

Committed to biodiversity conservation, TKM actively champions extensive afforestation initiatives. Through the Toyota Greenwave Project, TKM has planted over 328,000 saplings across its premises since 2009, nurturing an ecosystem with more than 790 varieties of flora and 410 species of fauna. Following the Miyawaki concept of afforestation, TKM has achieved significant carbon sequestration—totalling 4,826.69 tons—with Miyawaki plantations sequestering 30.86 tons of carbon per acre as compared to 8.45 tons per acre for conventional plantation methods.

With 64% of the skills used in most jobs projected to change by 2030 in India, LinkedIn research shows that 25% of professionals worry about not having the skills needed for the future. Nearly 4 in 10 (43%) professionals in Bengaluru find it challenging to determine if they’re a good match for a job. With 35% not knowing which of their skills are fit for a job’s requirements, understanding which skills are in demand is more critical than ever. Take stock of what you’ve got. Go back through your job history to do a skills inventory. Don’t forget to consider skills you’ve gained from other experiences including volunteering, sports clubs – you likely have more skills than you thought! This exercise will help you ID skills to highlight during your job search and can help remind you of skills that you would want to build in the future.

Show off your soft skills. While many jobs require technical skills, skills like communication and adaptability are in demand and are super transferable across roles and industries. These skills matter to employers, so don’t bury the lead – members who list five or more skills receive up to 5.6x more profile views from recruiters and 24x recruiter InMails, and are 2.9x more likely to receive connection requests. Be sure to add your skills to your profile, and include context that demonstrates the impact your skills have made.

Go skill surfing and get in growth mode. Identify the areas of growth – possibly around skills that you were missing for a specific job you want, as detailed in the job description. You can then check out your company’s continuing education offerings or ask for a stretch assignment in your current role. Take online courses like those offered by LinkedIn Learning, or take on a volunteer role for a local club or organisation. Don’t be afraid to try new things and get out of your comfort zone – you’ll be building your skills muscle.

Jobs on the Rise: LinkedIn Economic Graph researchers examined millions of jobs started by LinkedIn members from January 1, 2022 to July 31, 2024 to calculate a growth rate for each job title. To be ranked, a job title needed to see positive growth across our membership base and sufficient job postings in the past year, as well as have grown to a meaningful size by 2024. Identical job titles across different seniority levels were grouped and ranked together. Internships, volunteer positions, interim roles and student roles were excluded, and jobs where hiring was dominated by a small handful of companies in each country were also excluded. Additional data points for each of the job titles are based on LinkedIn profiles of members holding the title and/or open jobs for that title in the country.

Skills on the Rise: LinkedIn measures the growth of skills based on three pillars: skill acquisition, hiring success and emerging demand. Skill acquisition counts the rate at which members are adding new skills to their profile. Hiring success is measured by the share of a skill possessed by members who have been hired in the past year. Emerging demand measures the increased presence of a given skill in paid job postings. Growth rates for all metrics are measured by comparing LinkedIn data from January 1 to December 31, 2024 to the same period in the previous year (January 1 to December 31, 2023).
