P&G Whisper & UNESCO Collaborates To Launch Menstrual Health And Hygiene Campaign In Bengaluru


1 out of 5 girls in India drop out of school due to lack of period education and products. Mothers are a girl’s first teacher, but reports say 7 out of 10 mothers do not fully understand the science of periods and find it ‘dirty or impure’. Whisper, over the last 30 years, have been driving menstrual education, distributing free pads, and debunking period related myths and taboos. They have educated and given pads to more than 10 crore girls and mothers in India.

To address menstrual education and hygiene management further, P&G Whisper and UNESCO India joined forces with Gender Equality and Integrated Holistic Health working groups of C20 India at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Bengaluru campus with the support of Omnex to raise awareness, particularly among women, including young girls attending school. An event was organized introducing five teaching-learning modules developed by UNESCO India with Whisper, these modules are tools to drive menstrual health and hygiene management for educators, young adults, persons with disability, with focus on gender, and nutrition.

Titled "Spotlight Red," the teaching-learning modules offer comprehensive resources and strategies for learners, educators, menstruators, and community leaders. Their purpose is to enhance understanding and skills related to menstruation management while fostering awareness about its societal impact. The modules aim to empower adolescents from diverse backgrounds, including girls with disabilities, by providing them with access to period and puberty education. Moreover, they seek to create a supportive environment through interventions at the school, state, and national levels, enabling these adolescents to continue their education.

P&G Whisper and UNESCO India also launched a National Survey and Gap Analysis report on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management under the #KeepGirlsinSchool campaign. The report revealed that in poor urban areas, 50% of adolescent girls (aged 15 to 19) lack access to hygienic methods for managing their periods. More than 220 people attended the event, including girl students, teachers from various schools in Hyderabad, along with civil society organizations.

During the event, UNESCO showcased a comprehensive survey and gap analysis report, accompanied by a series of short films that effectively portrayed different dimensions of Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management. These films shed light on the diverse experiences and perspectives related to this vital subject matter, spanning across seven states in India. To further break down barriers and eliminate stigma surrounding periods, an empowering "Pride of Period Anthem" was also presented, fostering a more promising and inclusive future for all individuals who menstruate.

AdaniConneX Seals The Largest Data Center Financing Deal In India With A USD 213 Mn Construction Financing Facility


* The ground-breaking transaction paves the way for implementation of sustainable digital infrastructure platform with pan-India roll-out

AdaniConneX achieved financial closure through its maiden construction facility by entering into Financing Framework, raising USD 213 Mn for its under-construction data center asset portfolio. The tied-up facility will finance two data centers with an aggregate capacity of 67 MW that includes ‘Chennai 1’ campus with Phase 1 of 17 MW and Noida campus of 50 MW.

India is one of the fastest-growing data center markets in the world, and as per CRISIL estimates the data center capacity in India is expected to double from ~870 MW in FY22 to 1700-1800 MW by FY25. To address the growing need for reliable IT infrastructure, AdaniConneX is investing capital with a mission to build a 1 GW Green Data Center platform, enabled by hyperscale to hyperlocal data center investments across the country.

The Platform Infrastructure Financing finalized through the Framework Agreement with international lenders shall institutionalize the development agenda for AdaniConneX. ING Bank N.V., Mizuho Bank, Ltd., MUFG Bank, Ltd., Natixis, Standard Chartered Bank, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation have committed to the facility. The access to the wide pool of liquidity strengthens AdaniConneX strategy to fast-track the implementation of the under-construction asset portfolio in sync with accelerating demand.

The construction facility finances two data center projects in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Noida (Uttar Pradesh), with customized enterprise colocation offerings and hyperscale solutions. The ‘Chennai 1’ campus with ‘Phase 1’ 17 MW data center capacity is Tamil Nadu’s first pre-certified IGBC[1] Platinum Rated data center providing customized colocation solutions to enterprise segment. The under-construction Noida campus is being implemented with a 50 MW capacity to support strategic expansion needs of hyperscale customers in India.

Eviden Wins A $100 Million Deal In India To Deliver Two New Supercomputers


* Eviden will triple the computing capacity of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and the National Center for Medium Range Weather Forecast (NCMRWF)

Eviden, the Atos business leading in advanced computing today announces it was awarded a major $100M contract with NCMRWF, on behalf of the India Ministry of Earth Sciences, to build two new supercomputers dedicated to weather modelling and climate research for IITM and NCMRWF.

These systems, based on Eviden’s BullSequana XH2000, will have a combined power capacity up to 21.3 Petaflops and will rely on Eviden’s patented Direct Liquid Cooling technology to cool the system using warm water.

Located in Noida, the NCMRWF supercomputer will have an 8.3-Petaflop computing capacity for weather and climate modelling, to support advanced numerical weather research across India. This platform will bring together 2,100 CPU nodes with AMD EPYCTM 7643 processors, 18 GPU nodes using NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs, the NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand networking platform, and high-performance memory provided by Micron. NCMRWF supercomputer will also have 2PB all flash and 20PB disk based DDN EXAScaler ES400NVX2 parallel filesystem storage.

The supercomputer dedicated to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM, Pune) will provide 13 Petaflops of power for atmosphere and climate research. It will integrate 3,000 CPU nodes using AMD EPYCTM 7643 processors and 26 GPU nodes through NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs. The system will benefit from the NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand networking platform with In-Network Computing, 3PB all flash and 29PB disk based DDN EXAScaler ES400NVX2 storage and Micron high-technology memory.

As part of the contract, the data centers on both sites will also be upgraded.

Ramdevara Betta, located in Ramanagara district (Karnataka State), is renowned for being the only Vulture Sanctuary in India. TKM, in collaboration with the Forest Department of Ramanagaram will engage in tree plantation to support the department to enhance the green cover in this region. Through this eco initiative, TKM joins hands in the conservation of the forest.

Reiterating, TKM remains commitment to its six aspirational Global Environmental Challenge 2050, and this plantation drive represents its sixth challenge namely, ‘Living in Harmony with Nature’, focusing on enhancing the biodiversity. TKM has also undertaken ‘Green Wave Project’ promoting mass plantation activities inside and outside the company by consistently expanding the afforestation efforts by adopting ‘Miyawaki concept’, involving all its stakeholders. To elaborate, the Miyawaki method of plantation is to establish the potential natural vegetation utilizing native species and in India, TKM was the first corporate to adopt this Miyawaki Concept way back in 2009. Over the years, TKM has planted more than 3,28,000 saplings across 112 acres of land inside the premises with 700 different floral diversity, contributing to a cumulative reduction of 4,700 tons of carbon and attracting the faunal diversity of more than 264 species.

Since its establishment in 2017, iCARE (I, Community Acton to Reach Everyone) has been instrumental in creating a significant impact on society, positively impacting the lives of 63,150 individuals. Through iCARE, TKM has been actively engaging its employees who continue to voluntarily invest their efforts in various eco activities such as Dibbling for plant seeding (so far 3000 dibbles), land clean-up covering more than 0.5 acres of area in Bannerghatta National Park, making bird nests from plastic bottles were recycled into planters & imbibing the sense of biodiversity conservation amongst youths from 100 shelter homes and so forth. TKM came together to conduct a green home audit initiative to raise awareness about the carbon footprint of sustainable living.

So far, over 1,758 employees have voluntarily participated in iCARE, covering various initiatives in domains such as education, environment, health and hygiene, road safety, skill development, and disaster management in line with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

GE Aerospace Signs MOU With Hindustan Aeronautics Limited To Produce Fighter Jet Engines For Indian Air Force


* GE Aerospace’s F414 Engines Would Be Co-Produced In India To Power The Tejas Light Combat Aircraft Mk2

GE (NYSE: GE) – GE Aerospace announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to produce fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force, a major milestone amidst Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official state visit to the United States and a key element in strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement includes the potential joint production of GE Aerospace’s F414 engines in India, and GE Aerospace continues to work with the U.S. government to receive the necessary export authorization for this. The effort is part of the Indian Air Force’s Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 program.

“This is a historic agreement made possible by our longstanding partnership with India and HAL,” said H. Lawrence Culp, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GE and CEO of GE Aerospace. “We are proud to play a role in advancing President Biden and Prime Minister Modi’s vision of closer coordination between the two nations. GE Aerospace has operated in India for more than four decades with wide engagement in the industry including engines, avionics, services, engineering, manufacturing, and local sourcing. In addition to potential new work in India, a number of U.S. facilities that currently support work on the F414 engine will see additional volume as a result of today’s announcement.

In 1986, GE began working with the Aeronautical Development Agency and HAL to support the development of India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) with F404 engines. Subsequently GE Aerospace’s F404 and F414 have been part of development and production programs of LCA Mk1 and LCA Mk2 programs. In total, 75 F404 engines have been delivered and another 99 are on order for LCA Mk1A. Eight F414 engines have been delivered as part of an ongoing development program for LCA Mk2.

Today’s agreement will advance GE Aerospace’s earlier commitment to build 99 engines for the Indian Air Force as part of the LCA Mk2 program. It puts the company in a strong position to create a family of products in India, including the F404 engine that currently powers the LCA Mk1 and LCA Mk1A aircraft and GE Aerospace’s selection for the prototype development, testing and certification of the AMCA program with our F414-INS6 engine. In addition, GE will continue to collaborate with Indian government on the AMCA Mk2 engine program.

With more than five million flight hours and eight nations with F414-powered aircraft in operation or on order, the F414 continues to exceed goals for reliability and time on wing. To date, more than 1,600 F414 engines have been delivered globally.

GE’s presence in India includes its research and technology centre, the John F Welch Technology Centre at Bengaluru, which opened in 2000 and its Multi-modal Factory at Pune, which opened in 2015.

PayU India Slashes Its Electricity Emissions, Powering India’s Rural Financial Inclusion With New Climate Finance Mechanism


* PayU India is providing climate finance for projects with an installed capacity of over 390 KWp for 220 villages across India using Distributed Renewable Energy Certificates (D-RECs), accounting to a reduction in emissions from 89% of its electricity consumption

As momentum for greater corporate climate action and a just transition grows, PayU has shown its commitment to sustainability and financial inclusion across India by procuring Distributed Renewable Energy Certificates (D-RECs) from high-impact solar projects electrifying rural banks across the country.

D-RECs are an innovative climate finance instrument that are accelerating the energy transition, increasing local clean electricity supply, boosting transparency, and transforming corporate green energy procurement. D-RECs have a key role to play in India. Due to erratic power supplies, banking in rural areas can often be a difficult if not an impossible affair for many rural communities in India, with one-fifth of Indian adults reportedly not having a bank account.

E-Hands Energy, a Chennai-based provider of renewable energy solutions in rural India, recently completed a programme providing solar solutions to over 920 rural banks in India, helping bring financially excluded rural Indians into the formal banking system by ensuring the banks remained operational throughout the day despite regular power cuts. The D-RECs purchased by PayU will be certifying the renewable electricity generated by a selection of these rural banking renewable energy projects, supporting financial inclusion across the country.

D-RECs extend the impact of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) - a widely used market instrument - to smaller projects with limited connection to the grid and/or limited access to affordable finance, such as E-Hands Energy’s banking programme. By purchasing D-RECs to settle 89% of PayU India’s electricity consumption, the company is providing climate finance for further E-Hands Energy renewable energy projects with an installed capacity of over 390 KWp for 220 villages across India. These projects will displace polluting grid and off-grid energy generation, such as diesel generators and grief-based electricity, from across India.

The D-REC Initiative, the secretariat leading the management of the D-REC, has developed an open technology ledger in close collaboration with the International REC (I-REC) Standard. This gives buyers like PayU confidence in the origination of their certificates, producing rigorous metrics for corporate reporting against renewable energy procurement targets.
