Bank of Baroda Increases “Interest Rates oO Retail Term Deposits” By Upto 30 Basis Points On Select Tenors


* Interest Rates hiked on the Baroda Tiranga Plus Deposit Scheme as well - Baroda Tiranga Plus now offers up to 7.90% p.a. for 399 Days 

Bank of Baroda (Bank), one of India’s leading public sector banks, today announced an increase in interest rates on Domestic Retail Term Deposits, including NRO and NRE Term Deposits, by up to 30 basis points on select tenors. These rates are applicable on deposits below Rs 2 crore, with effect from May 12, 2023.  

Interest rates have also been hiked on the Baroda Tiranga Plus Deposit Scheme. The 399 Day Baroda Tiranga Plus deposit scheme now offers interest rates up to 7.90% p.a., which includes 0.50% p.a. for senior citizens and 0.15% for non-callable deposits. 

Bank of Baroda has earlier increased retail term deposit interest rates in March 2023 and in December 2022. 

Existing and new customers of Bank of Baroda can open a FD through any of the Bank’s branches across India. An online FD can also be opened by existing customers via the Bank’s Mobile app (bob World)/ Net Banking (bob World Internet).

Ambuja Cements Places Order For Capacity Expansion Of 14 MMT Cement


·         Expand Clinker capacity by 8 Million Tonnes at Bhatapara and Maratha units on highest ESG standards with 42 MW of WHRS, provision to utilize 50% AFR and operate on green power.

·         This will enable production of Blended Green Cement of 14 Million Tonnes, post all requisite approvals.

·         Projects expected to be commissioned in 24 months.

·         Entire expansion CAPEX funded from internal accruals.

Ambuja Cements, the cement and building material company of diversified Adani Group, placed orders to expand Clinker capacity by 8 Million Tonnes at Bhatapara and Maratha units on highest ESG standards with 42 MW of WHRS, provision to utilize 50% AFR and provision to operate on green power.

The capacity expansion projects will enable production of Blended Green Cement of 14 Million Tonnes, post all requisite approvals. These projects will generate substantial value to the existing business and enable more employment and growth opportunities in the States, beneficial for all stakeholders.

These projects are expected to be commissioned in 24 months and the CAPEX will be funded from internal accruals.

Manipal Institute of Technology, MAHE Launches A New Program: B.Tech. In Mathematics And Computing


Manipal Institute of Technology, a constituent unit of Manipal, MAHE, one of India's premier higher education institutions, has launched an undergraduate program in B. ONGC Strikes Gold: Successive Discoveries In OALP Blocks Amrit And Moonga On Arabian Sea


Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has made discoveries of Oil and Gas in MBS171HAA-1 (MBS171HAA-A)-“AMRIT” in OALP (Open Acreage Licensing Policy) block MB-OSHP-2017/1 in Mumbai Offshore (SW) on the Arabian Sea. There is another remarkable discovery in MBS182HDA-1(MBS182HDA-A) named “Moonga” in OALP exploration Block in Mumbai Offshore. Detailed assessment of the discoveries is in progress. 

With these discoveries, ONGC continues its impressive streak in the OALP blocks by making new discoveries in consecutive years. ONGC Director (Exploration) Ms. Sushma Rawat said that with these notable findings in the OALP I and OALP III rounds, ONGC reaffirms its exploration commitment to unlocking the vast potential of India's hydrocarbon resources along with reserves accretion, strengthening the nation's energy security.

The discovery represents a momentous achievement, underscoring exploration dedication to expanding domestic production and reducing India's reliance on imported oil and gas.

ONGC’s relentless pursuit of exploring untapped regions yielded these finds. By diligently analyzing geological data and employing advanced technologies, ONGC successfully identified substantial oil and gas reserves, reaffirming the untapped potential within the OALP blocks.

Godrej & Boyce Bags Over 2000 Crore Worth Of Orders


~ The business has achieved its highest order inflow ever in FY23.

The Power Infrastructure and Renewable Energy (PIRE) business of Godrej Electricals & Electronics, a business unit of Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd has secured orders worth over 2000 Cr from Power Transmission, Railways, and Solar Projects. The projects include EPC for EHV substations of 400kV & 765kV across India, a GIS Substation with 220kV underground cable in Mumbai, and a 132kV Substation project in Nepal. 

In the solar segment, the company has secured an order for a ground-mounted solar plant of 20MW in West Bengal. The order supports the business' aim to grow its solar EPC portfolio by 30% annually over the next three years and promote Energy conservation.

The business marks its entry into railway electrification with a project of over 900 crores from Indian Railways for the construction of traction substations and associated works. The project aligns with India's vision of modernizing its railways and promoting sustainable transportation. The project is a part of ‘Mission Raftar’ for upgrading speed to 160Kmph/200Kmph on the existing New Delhi-Howrah Route and between Mathura-Palwal on the existing New Delhi-Mumbai Routes.

ABB India expands its production footprint with a new line for variable speed drive modules at the Peenya factory in Bengaluru. The new line will produce drives ranging from 75 kW to up to 250 kW and will cater to all major industrial segments. ABB’s variable speed drives are used to control the speed of electric motors to match the actual demands of the process to improve energy efficiency and performance in any industrial application or any building globally. When added to the existing motor of a pump, fan or compressor, a drive can typically reduce power consumption by up to 25%.

Part of the integrated campus that houses ABB’s corporate office and other business’ factories, this new production line aims to meet the growing demand of domestic and global customers. With local manufacturing, now customers in India will get faster access to the products, their customization options, and quick serviceability. Despite of the great energy saving and performance improving potential, currently only about 23% of the world’s motors are paired with a drive. Visa – EY Report Identifies Disruptive Megatrends Driving The Journey To A $1 Tn Tourism Economy

Visa Inc. (NYSE: V), the global leader in digital payments, and EY, the leading professional services organization, have launched a comprehensive report titled "Charting the Course for India – Tourism Megatrends Unpacked,". The report reveals that India's tourism industry is on track to reach US$1 trillion by 2047, with data-led tourism set to be a key driver of growth. It takes a long-term view of India's tourism industry, beyond the pandemic's impact, and identifies the megatrends expected to shape the sector over the next decade.

The report was unveiled in the presence of Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa, and former CEO, NITI Aayog, and Alfred F. Kelly Jr., Executive Chairman, Visa, at the ASSOCHAM India Tourism Conference in New Delhi.

Commenting on the report, Sandeep Ghosh, Group Country Manager for India & South Asia, Visa said, “The projected growth of India's tourism industry to reach US$1 trillion by 2047 is an exciting opportunity for the country. By aggregating and utiliing data from various stakeholders, such as payment service providers and private tour operators, we can help create a more resilient and sustainable tourism ecosystem for India. The report's findings demonstrate that the key to building a robust future for India's tourism industry is through data-driven insights. Visa's Destination Insights, which have already proven successful in London, Singapore, and Australia, offer a valuable tool to measure the impact of tourism and support decision-making."

In the last two years, the pandemic has spurred a rapid global research effort into the tourism sector, leading to the emergence of some long-term and self-sustainable solutions. In India as well, there has been an extensive discourse on the impact of COVID-19 on the sector, resulting in issues and solutions created by the sector and government.

"The travel & tourism industry is a major contributor to economic development and job creation in the world and tourism in India is also poised to grow rapidly across various segments. The potential of tourism to create massive economic impact, however, has remained as yet untapped. The Government of India is continuously working on multiple initiatives such as PRASHAD, Swadesh Darshan and Dekho Apna Desh to support and nurture the travel ecosystem. The Draft National Tourism Policy provides a timely and innovative framework for sustainable and holistic growth of tourism in the country. The Ministry of Tourism has designated the Year 2023 as ‘Visit India’ year and is also developing a Visit India 2023 strategy. There is a need to understand the megatrends affecting the tourism sector over the next decade and for the entire ecosystem to collaborate for ensuring the economic benefits of this growth are realized."

The report identifies Sustainability, Enabling Technologies, and Evolving Tourist Preferences as the main disruptive forces driving tourism. Sustainable tourism experiences and offerings are in high demand worldwide, and this trend is likely to continue in the future. At present, the global sustainable tourism market is valued at US$180 billion. In India, this is valued between US$26 million- US$2.5 billion and is expected to grow at 15% CAGR.

The second major trend is the role played by innovative technologies and digitalisation. In the aviation, travel, and tourism industries, digitalisation is expected to create US$305 billion in value and move US$100 billion of value away from traditional players to new competitors globally.

Another key trend identified is evolving tourist preferences, driven by the presence of Gen Z, which constitutes 24% of the global population and 27% of this is in India. The report offers detailed insights into the segments that will play a critical role in driving tourism industry growth and the Indian economy at large.

·       Spiritual tourism will play a key role since 60% of domestic tourism in India is spiritual in nature, and 30.5 million international travellers are expected to visit India by 2028 for this purpose.

·       Medical and wellness tourism will witness growth with a potential for 24 million jobs to be created by 2032. In 2021, 21% of international travellers sought medical treatment in India .

·       Adventure and sports tourism has a potential to create 6 million jobs by 2032. Globally, an average adventure tourist spends US$2,900 per trip.

·       Business travellers and MICE – India’s share in the global MICE market will more than double from 2019 to 2025. In 2021, 12.1% of foreign tourists visited India for business purposes.

·       Travel mobility – Airports in India will increase to 220 by 2025 with US$1.5 trillion worth investments through the National Infrastructure Pipeline Scheme (2020-25)
