In recognition of Women's Equality Day on August 26th, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reaffirms its steadfast commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women within its workforce and beyond. Aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), TKM has initiated a series of transformative measures aimed at fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.

As part of its long-term vision, TKM has set a target to increase the representation of women in its workforce to 30% by 2030. India’s Future International Champions: 5 Emerging Women Athletes Of India


As India advances on the global sports stage, a new generation of female athletes is emerging, poised to become the nation's next sports icons. This exciting transformation is supported by the Anju Bobby Sports Foundation and Anandana- The Coca-Cola India Foundation which are dedicated to nurturing and empowering young talent. Through substantial funding and support, including state-of-the-art facilities for professional training, these athletes are breaking records and inspiring future generations.

Here’s a closer look at five women athletes to watch:

1. Shaili Singh 

Shaili Singh has been making waves in Indian athletics. In 2018, at just 14 years old, she joined the Junior India Camp in the long jump and began training under Dronacharya Robert Bobby George, supported by the Sports Authority of India and the Anju Bobby Sports Foundation. Shaili holds national records in the U-16 (6.15 m), U-18 (6.48 m), and U-20 (6.76 m) categories. She earned a silver medal at the Junior World Athletics Championships in 2021 and another silver at the Asian Championships in 2023, marking her as a formidable competitor on the international stage. 

In October 2023, she achieved a world ranking of 22 but narrowly missed the entry for the Paris Olympics 2024 in the World Ranking quota by just 11 points. Shaili won gold at the Indian Grand Prix in April 2023 with a personal best jump of 6.76 meters—the second-best by an Indian woman. In the same year, she secured a bronze in the World Athletics Seiko Grand Prix held in Yokohama, Japan, and also participated in the Asian Indoor Championships, the Budapest World Athletics Championships, and the Hangzhou Asian Games. In 2024, participated in six World Athletics Continental Tour bronze/international meets, where she secured two silvers and one bronze. 

Shaili is poised to carry forward India’s long jump legacy and is expected to break the national record of 6.83 meters set by Anju Bobby George at the Athens Olympics in 2004.  

2. Poorva Hitesh Sawant  

Poorva Hitesh Sawant is known for her explosive speed and strength. Her journey began at the age of seven, and since then, she has explored various events, including the long jump and heptathlon, before discovering her passion for the triple jump in 2021. After moving to Bangalore in 2022 to train under the guidance of Robert Bobby George, Poorva’s dedication has led to remarkable achievements. She finished 4th at the Asian Indoor Championship in 2023 with a jump of 13.06 meters, won gold in the National Federation Cup in 2023, and clinched gold at the 3rd Indian Open Jumps Competition and Indian Grand Prix in 2024. With a personal best of 13.31 meters, she is expected to become a strong competitor at the international level. 

3. Ravada Kusuma  

Ravada Kusuma, a talented long jumper from Andhra Pradesh, has faced her fair share of ups and downs throughout her athletic career, including injuries and fluctuations in performance at national competitions. In 2023, her hard work finally paid off as she won gold in the U-23 National Championship and silver in the All India Inter University Championship. In 2024, she secured gold in the Khelo India University Games, marking a significant turning point in her athletic career. After joining the National Junior Camp in 2017, the support from the Anju Bobby Sports Foundation provided her access to quality coaching, training facilities, and nutrition. With a personal best of 6.14 meters, Kusuma's immense potential suggests she has yet to achieve her best.  

4. Namayi Ruchitha 

Namayi Ruchitha is a rising star in athletics, showcasing her talent on the track. In 2022, she won gold at the U-20 National Athletics Championship in the 100-meter hurdles and silver at the Khelo India University Games. In 2023, she secured silver in the Junior National Athletic Championship, and in 2024, she clinched gold again at the Khelo India University Games. With a personal best time of 14.28 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, Namayi is a versatile and promising athlete to watch in future championships. The support from the foundation has allowed her to concentrate on her training and set ambitious goals, such as breaking the 14-second barrier in her events.  

5. Susmita 

Susmita’s journey hasn’t been easy; she has faced numerous challenges but her resolve to overcome these obstacles has been inspiring. Susmita draws strength from her family and her coach, Robert Bobby George, who motivates her to keep pushing forward. Her impressive achievements include earning silver at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships in 2023, gold at the Khelo India Youth Games in 2022, gold in the U20 National Athletic Championship in 2023, and a bronze at both the Indian Grand Prix and the Indian Open Jumps Meet in 2024, with a personal best of 6.28 meters. As she continues to rise, Susmita is emerging as a strong contender for future sports glory in the long jump.

PhonePe Enables Credit Line On UPI On Its Platform


*     Consumers can now link their pre-approved credit line to UPI on PhonePe and use it to make payments across millions of merchants

*     This also provides businesses an added avenue for customer payments and reduces drop offs

PhonePe today announced the launch of Credit Line on UPI on its platform. Consumers who avail credit lines from their banks can now link these credit lines to UPI on PhonePe and seamlessly make merchant payments. This feature enables consumers to make purchases with ease across millions of merchants and avail the flexibility of short-term credit that helps them manage their monthly expenses better.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently expanded the scope of UPI to include pre-approved credit lines, called ‘Credit Line on UPI’, allowing consumers to avail credit lines through banks and  use these through their UPI apps. This will further help exponentially increase the number of merchants where credit lines can be utilised.

Along with consumers, the option also allows merchants on the PhonePe Payment Gateway (PG), to offer their customers an additional payment option at the time of checkout. This not only reduces friction but also lowers cart abandonment leading to higher sales. Merchants simply need to integrate with PhonePe PG to add ‘Credit Line on UPI’ as a payment option to enable this offering.

Credit line on UPI rides on the same UPI rails that millions of Indians are familiar with. Here’s how users can avail it:

Users can link their Credit Line on UPI by clicking on the profile section on the top left of the PhonePe app home page and select the bank from which they availed the Credit Line.

The Credit Line associated with their registered phone number will  be linked on UPI upon clicking on the bank.

After linking, the user will be required to set a UPI PIN

Once this is done, the Credit Line option will show up as a payment instrument on the payment page while the user is making a payment.

Samsung Brings Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification To Galaxy Watches In India


Samsung, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, today announced the rollout of Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature on the Samsung Health Monitor app for Galaxy Watches. The new feature, combined with the app’s existing Blood Pressure and Electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring capabilities, helps detect heart rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib), offering Galaxy Watch users a more comprehensive understanding of their heart health.

Once activated in the Samsung Health Monitor app, the IHRN feature continuously checks for irregular heart rhythms in the background using the Galaxy Watch’s BioActive Sensor. If a certain number of consecutive measurements are irregular, Galaxy Watch warns the user of potential AFib activity, prompting them to take an ECG using their watch for a more accurate measurement. With the existing Blood Pressure and Heart Rate monitoring, this new feature provides users with even deeper insights into their cardiovascular health.

Cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and AFib — a type of arrhythmia — is widely considered a warning sign for major cardiovascular issues including an increased risk of stroke, heart failure and other complications. Moreover, many cases of AFib are asymptomatic or even silent, leaving people unaware of their risk.

With the addition of the IHRN feature, Galaxy Watch users can now monitor other crucial aspects of their heart health. Equipped with Samsung’s BioActive Sensor, it offers tools to help users better understand their heart health, including on-demand ECG recording and an HR Alert function that detects abnormally high or low heart rates.

The Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification feature is now available as part of the newly launched Galaxy Watch7 Ultra, Galaxy Watch7 as well as on Galaxy Watch6, Watch5 and Watch4 series.

Galaxy Watch users can simply update the Samsung Health Monitor app on their devices via Galaxy Store and then enable the IHRN feature from the settings menu on the app.

Kisanserv’s 250-Store Expansion to Create 6,000 Jobs, Empowering Local Communities And Women

Kisanserv, a rapidly growing bootstrapped retail company specializing in fresh fruits and vegetables, is ambitiously targeting a revenue milestone of ?500 crore within the next four years. Established in 2019, Kisanserv has quickly carved out a niche in India’s traditional fruits and vegetables market by combining operational efficiency, direct farmer partnerships, and an innovative hybrid retail model.

Kisanserv’s journey began by catering to quick-commerce companies, which provided a platform to test and refine its supply chain processes. With a solid foundation in place, Kisanserv opened its first retail store in January 2023. In just 16 months, the company expanded to 22 stores across Pune and Mumbai, achieving profitability in each location without investing in marketing or social media promotion. This organic growth has set the stage for an ambitious expansion to 250 stores, with a revenue target of ?500 crore over the next three years—a significant leap from the current ?35 crore revenue reported for the most recent fiscal year.

As Kisanserv expands to 250 stores, it expects to create 2,000 direct jobs and 4,000-5,000 indirect jobs, focusing on hiring from local communities and prioritizing female staff. Following this initial phase of expansion, the company plans to scale up to 1,000 stores, entering new markets such as Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

“Our success so far is a testament to our commitment to transparency, sustainability, and customer satisfaction,” said Niranjan Sharma, CEO of Kisanserv. “By eliminating middlemen, we’ve been able to offer fresher produce at significantly lower prices while ensuring that farmers receive more than double their traditional earnings. This approach not only empowers farmers but also delivers exceptional value to our customers.”

Kisanserv’s strategy of focusing on quality, service, and operational excellence is already yielding results. The company currently generates ?41,000 per square foot per year—significantly higher than the ?31,000 achieved by other top grocery retailers. With the planned expansion, Kisanserv aims to increase this figure to ?65,000 per square foot per year.

Kisanserv’s hybrid retail model has resonated strongly with urban customers. The company operates neighborhood convenience stores, each approximately 300 square feet, while also offering a robust online shopping experience through the Kisanserv Express app. This model allows customers to shop in-store or order online, with home delivery promised within 20-30 minutes at no additional cost. Currently, 70% of Kisanserv’s revenue comes from in-store sales, with online transactions contributing 30%. This balance reflects the company’s ability to cater to diverse consumer preferences, whether they prefer the traditional “touch, feel, and buy” experience or the convenience of online shopping.

“We’ve nearly perfected our business model, and now we’re ready to scale rapidly,” added Sharma. “Our focus on operational efficiency, combined with our commitment to quality and customer service, positions us to capture a significant share of the ?160 billion fruits and vegetables market in India, where 90% is still dominated by local Kirana stores.”

A key differentiator for Kisanserv is its in-house technology, which drives operational efficiency. The company has developed a custom ERP system that provides real-time visibility into demand, procurement, supply chain logistics, and product availability across all its stores. This technology has enabled Kisanserv to achieve an impressive inventory turnover of 1-2 days, ensuring product freshness and keeping wastage to a minimum—4-5% in stores and just 4% in the supply chain.

In a highly competitive market, Kisanserv distinguishes itself from both traditional Sabjiwalas and heavily funded e-commerce companies with a unique value proposition. By sourcing directly from farms, Kisanserv ensures superior quality produce with less handling and longer shelf life. Despite offering higher quality, Kisanserv’s prices are 10-15% lower than those of local shops and 20-25% lower than online retail competitors. Additionally, Kisanserv’s stores maintain strict hygiene standards, avoiding practices like splashing water on vegetables and selling nearly 100% of their produce in packed form, ensuring food safety.

Kisanserv’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its supply chain practices. Through its "Giving Back to Soil" initiative, the company distributes compost to farmers, encouraging the use of natural fertilizers and reducing the chemical load in produce. This initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability but also strengthens the company’s relationships with farmers, further supporting local communities.

Looking ahead, Kisanserv is exploring the introduction of self-checkout systems in its stores to enhance the shopping experience by making it quicker and more convenient. Additionally, the company plans to launch fresh cold-pressed fruit and vegetable juices, aligning with current consumer trends toward health and wellness.

Air India Adds Flights To Kolkata From Bengaluru And Hyderabad For Nearly A Month


·         Temporary additional flights to Kolkata from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad

Air India, India’s leading global airline, today announced it will temporarily operate additional flights to Kolkata from four Indian cities to meet greater travel demand to the city during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities.

Starting 20 September 2024, Air India will operate daily, non-stop flights to Kolkata from Bengaluru and Hyderabad for nearly a month.

The airline has also increased frequency to Kolkata from Delhi effective 15 August 2024, and from Mumbai effective 25 September 2024. 

With these additions, Air India will increase frequency on the Delhi-Kolkata route from 28x weekly to 35x weekly flights, and on the Mumbai-Kolkata route from 21x weekly to 28x weekly.

The added flights will operate at convenient times, providing greater choice and ease to travellers who plan to visit their loved ones during the joyous festive season. Air India’s flights to/from Kolkata are also conveniently timed to enable seamless connections via its Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru hubs to/from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, as well as several countries in Europe and Southeast Asia.

Bookings for the new flights are being progressively opened on all channels, including Air India’s website, mobile app, and through travel agents.

Vi Ramps Up Network Infrastructure To Enhance Data Speed And Coverage For Users In Karnataka


*  Upgraded the spectrum in the 2100 MHz band to double the network capacity in this layer

Leading telecom operator Vi, today announced advancements in its network infrastructure across Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Tumakuru, to provide faster data speeds for users in these cities. In a press event in the city today, the company shared that it has doubled the capacity of its LTE 2100 MHz band by expanding from 5 MHz to 10 MHz to enable customers with faster network speed and improved internet browsing experiences.

Vi plans to further enhance its network by deploying recently acquired spectrum in the 900 MHz band across the state. This will be used to strengthen indoor coverage, especially in densely populated suburban and rural areas, ensuring improved connectivity and a better user experience. Reinforcing its commitment to Karnataka, Vi also announced a new service zone in Davanagere to broaden its distribution & service reach within the state. These efforts are part of Vi's commitment to provide superior connectivity and better customer experience across Karnataka, thus ensuring its users benefit from enhanced voice quality and faster data speeds on its best-ever network, Vi GIGAnet.

Vi’s network currently covers close to 85% of the population in Karnataka. Over the past two years, Vi has made upgrades to its core network in Karnataka, ensuring 5G readiness, enabling customers to utilize the benefits of e-SIM, enhancing VoLTE architecture, and rolling out VoWIFI to improve indoor voice services. The company has also expanded its retail presence in the state, with over 140 stores including Vi Stores, Vi Shops, and Vi Mini Stores and has an extensive distribution network in the state with approximately 360 distributors and close to 19,000 recharge outlets to ensure greater service and support for its customers.

Vi continues to innovate in meeting customer demands with offerings such as the Vi Hero Unlimited Plan, which provides unlimited night-time (12 am to 6 am) data, unlimited calling, data rollover, and streaming benefits with free OTT subscriptions. Evolutionari Women Entrepreneurs Program (WEP) is a 6-month long incubation program, designed to further encourage and support female entrepreneurs by providing them with a unique opportunity to join a carefully curated cohort of 10 women entrepreneurs.
