Vedanta IOK Recognised By FIMI For ESG Best Practices


Vedanta Iron Ore Karnataka (IOK) has been awarded with the OMC Mining Happiness ESG Award 2024-’25 at the 59th AGM of Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) awards 2025.


The award was presented by Shri. Satish Chandra Dubey, Hon’ble Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Government of India, at New Delhi & received on behalf of Sesa Goa by Mr Shrishaila Gouda, CEO, Vedanta IOK. This is the 2nd consecutive year in which the Company has been recognised at the prestigious forum.


On receiving the award, Shrishaila Gouda, CEO, Vedanta-Iron Ore Karnataka said, “We, at Vedanta IOK, are proud to have been recognized for our ESG best practices with the FIMI award for the 2nd consecutive year. The FIMI ESG award was presented on account of the industry leading best practices adopted by the mine, such as onboarding of EV tech for core mining operations, use of EV passenger vehicles, , deploying new generation equipment such as VOLVO FMX460 trucks to enhance operational efficiency, deploying Slope Stability Radars for monitoring the pit and dump slopes, and limiting & curbing use of plastic wherein the Company’s mines have recently been declared as a ‘Single-Use Plastic Free Unit’ by the Indian Register Quality Systems (IRQS).


Vedanta Sesa Goa-IOK has previously been awarded with the prestigious FIMI Abheraj Baldota Environment Award 2023-’24 for environment protection and management.

Turkish Airlines To Expand Its Fleet With Boeing Order During 2025

Flying to more countries than any other airline worldwide, Turkish Airlines is taking another significant step forward in line with its strategic growth plans. 

The national flag carrier has reached an agreement with Boeing, and will add a total of 75 wide-body Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft to its fleet between 2029 and 2034, consisting of 50 firm and 25 option orders within this scope.

 

In terms of engine procurement, Turkish Airlines is continuing negotiations with manufacturers Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace. Within the scope of this strategic acquisition, negotiations between Turkish Airlines and Boeing regarding the purchase of a total of 150 aircraft, consisting of 100 firm and 50 option orders for the 737-8/10 MAX models have been completed. Subject to the successful conclusion of ongoing discussions with engine manufacturer CFM International, orders for the 737-8/10 MAX aircraft will be placed.

 

This agreement stands as a strong indicator of both the strategic partnership between Türkiye and the United States, as well as the long-standing cooperation between Turkish Airlines and Boeing. It also underscores the airline’s determination to maintain industry leadership and enhance operational efficiency.

 

As part of its “Vision 2033” which underscores airline’s 100th anniversary, Turkish Airlines aims to expand its fleet beyond 800 aircraft, while increasing the proportion of next-generation aircraft to 90% by 2033 and to 100% by 2035. This will further strengthen operational efficiency while sustaining an average annual growth rate of 6%.

 

On this new order, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, Prof. Ahmet Bolat stated: “This landmark agreement represents much more than a fleet growth. In 2022, Abbott partnered with TechnoServe, an international non-profit, to launch ''Project Ksheersagar''—a shared-value initiative in India committed to helping dairy farmers. The initiative aims to transform farmers' lives and empower them to create a sustainable raw milk supply chain in the country. Today, Abbott shares how the initiative has positively impacted Indian farmers and families who depend on Abbott’s nutritional products.

 

Launched in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, Project Ksheersagar invests in farmers by helping them open bank accounts, pursue employment opportunities, and receive training in financial literacy and dairy farm management best practices to grow their business. This work builds on earlier projects implemented over the past decade to support dairy farmers in India.

 

Abbott and TechnoServe work closely with farmers to improve milk production and guide them to provide nutritious cattle feed and improve animal husbandry practices. The program has set up 130 village-based milk collection centers for reliable cold storage, making it easier for farmers to deliver quality milk and increase their income.

 

''This initiative benefits the local farming community as well as families who depend on Abbott’s nutritional products,'' said Joydeep Dutta, Country Director, TechnoServe India. ''By adopting standardized dairy practices, Indian farmers have improved milk quality and productivity—while increasing their incomes and gaining valuable knowledge."

 

So far, Abbott has engaged over 12,000 dairy farmers, creating a more sustainable supply chain. The project aims to benefit around 51,000 dairy animals by implementing best practices, reducing antibiotic use, and improving animal care standards across more than,1000 farms. This initiative has reduced veterinary costs by 60% and increasing milk production by 55% over the course of the project.

 

"Project Ksheersagar is part of Abbott's efforts to create a sustainable and resilient raw milk supply chain,'' said Shibasish Pramanik, Supply Chain Director for Abbott’s nutrition business in India. ''This initiative helps family businesses succeed and creates opportunities for future generations. It also allows Abbott to locally source high-quality milk for our nutrition products. We expect to source 60% of our milk powder needs from farmers in the program, adding real value to our nutrition business and the families who rely on our products."
