Acronis Recognized as Visionary in Gartner 2020 Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup and Recovery Solutions

Acronis, a global leader in cyber protection, was positioned in the Visionaries quadrant in the Gartner 2020 Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup and Recovery Solutions

According to the report, “the move toward public cloud, heightened concerns over ransomware, and complexities associated with backup and data management are forcing I&O leaders to rearchitect their backup infrastructure and explore alternative solutions. This research provides analyses of backup and recovery vendors.”

“Over the past several years, Acronis has shifted its focus from being a backup vendor to offering cyber protection, a holistic approach that combines data protection and cybersecurity. It is encouraging to be acknowledged as a Visionary by Gartner, and we see this recognition as validation of the critical interdependency between backup and cybersecurity,” said Acronis Founder and CEO Serguei “SB” Beloussov.

While the Gartner 2020 Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup and Recovery Solutions report is focused on the data center, the primary focus for Acronis has always been protecting the edge and endpoint. Beloussov continues, “We have a unique ability to provide cyber protection for enterprises - focusing on edge and endpoint workloads. Our newest solution Acronis Cyber Protect provides AI-powered anti-malware protection, vulnerability assessments and patch management, continuous data protection, URL filtering and fast, reliable backup and disaster recovery, all from an easy-to-manage console.”

Seagate's ‘Rethink Data’ Report Reveals that 68% of Data Available to Businesses goes Unleveraged

The report also identifies the missing link of data management—DataOps—which can help organizations harness more of their data’s value and lead to better business outcomes.

Seagate Technology plc, a world leader in data storage and management solutions, today released Rethink Data: Put More of Your Data to Work—From Edge to Cloud. The report—based on a survey of 1500 global enterprise leaders, which was commissioned by Seagate and conducted by the research firm IDC—identifies today’s most pressing data management challenges, and solutions to them. It pinpoints the amount of data available to enterprises that goes unused: 68%.

“The report and the survey make clear that winning businesses must have strong mass data operations,” says Seagate CEO Dave Mosley. “The value that a company derives from data directly affects its success.”

The most significant findings include:

Data management is increasingly important as data proliferates. IDC projects that over the next two years enterprise data will grow at a 42.2% annual rate.
Only 32% of data available to enterprises is put to work. The remaining 68% is unleveraged.
The top five barriers to putting data to work are: 1) making collected data usable, 2) managing the storage of collected data, 3) ensuring that needed data is collected, 4) ensuring the security of collected data, and 5) making the different silos of collected data available.
Managing data in the multicloud and hybrid cloud are top data management challenges expected by businesses over the next two years.
Two thirds of survey respondents report insufficient data security, making data security an essential element of any discussion of efficient data management.

The report identifies the missing link of data management: data operations, or DataOps. IDC defines DataOps as “the discipline connecting data creators with data consumers.” While the majority of respondents say that DataOps is “very” or “extremely” important, only 10% of organizations report having implemented DataOps fully. The survey demonstrated that, along with other data management solutions, DataOps leads to measurably better business outcomes. It boosts customer loyalty, revenue, profit, cost savings, plus results in other benefits.

"The findings of this study illustrating that more than two-thirds of available data lies fallow in organizations may seem like disturbing news," said Phil Goodwin, research director, IDC and principal analyst on the study. "But in truth, it shows how much opportunity and potential organizations already have at their fingertips. Organizations that can harness the value of their data wherever it resides—core, cloud or edge—can generate significant competitive advantage in the marketplace."

The survey queried 1500 respondents—500 in the Asia Pacific and Japan region, 475 in Europe, 375 respondents in North America, and 150 in China.

TCS may go slow on lateral hiring

The country's largest software company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), plans to go slow on lateral hiring. According to a report in a leading business daily, faced with the current tough business environment, TCS will be focusing more on trainees.

The company, however, is not planning any freeze on salary hike, though it said that the next year's salary hike would be in single digit per cent range.

TCS has been very controlled about the numbers that we take from here. The focus is on trainees as from cost management perspective this will balance out, said, Ajoy Mukherjee, VP and head, global HR, TCS, in the report.

TCS which reported net additions of 8,692 employees in third quarter, the highest in any of the last five quarters, however, assured that it will honour its commitment on hiring 24,800 people during financial year 2009-10.

Mukherjee added that while I am not saying that we will not hire experienced people, but it will be based more on domain expertise and business need. Besides, for off-campus recruitment, which we did in the fourth quarter to fill on gaps due to attrition, is also clearly ruled out this year. The other focus area also is shift from onsite to offshore.

Further, despite troubles in the US economy, TCS reported a robust 32 percent Y-o-Y growth in business in the region with 320 bps improvement in operating margin at 33.4 per cent in the just ended third quarter. Growth in the European market was lower at 23.4 per cent and came on 180 bps lower margin of 29.2 per cent.

TCS, however, reported lower utilisation rate including trainees during the OND quarter. The company's utilisation rate fell from 74.7 percent in the last quarter to 71. per cent.
