Ms Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Director - Vedanta Limited and Chairperson Hindustan Zinc was part of the recently concluded two-day #W20 Summit held at Mahabalipuram which focussed on commitment to combatting climate change and gender equity.
The two-day summit brought together global change makers who are committed to combatting climate change and are working towards gender equality.
Under the theme of "Transform, Thrive & Transcend," the W20 Summit fostered an environment where leaders and change-makers gathered to explore innovative solutions for global challenges. Ms Priya Agarwal Hebbar's invaluable insights and contributions during the panel resonated deeply with attendees, as she shared her unwavering passion and commitment to combatting climate change.
In her statement, Ms Agarwal Hebbar said that she is honoured to be on a panel with exemplary women who are working with great passion towards mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. The gender equity track of #G20, has been a catalyst for bringing to the fore the disproportionate impact of climate change on women - especially those in developing regions.
She further added, “I firmly believe it is imperative to ensure that women are guaranteed equal representation and meaningful participation in decision making and at Vedanta Group, we are doing exactly that. It was a matter of pride for me to share the strides our business units are making, under women-led ESG teams, towards our ambitious target of becoming #NetZero by 2050. Vedanta is committed towards keeping an equitable gender approach at the heart of our climate policies, especially to benefit the communities we operate within!”
Smt Smriti Irani, Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development and Minority Affairs, who was part of the elite event, spoke about the strength of W20 in bringing together powerful women to identify policy gaps and collaborate for a more gender equal world at the event. Further, Sherpa G20, Shri Amitabh Kant, also highlighted how India has transformed the global narrative from women empowerment to women-led development. In his statement to the august audience, Shri Kant said that India is leading the charge globally, and under India's G20 Presidency we are committed to ensuring 100% access to women within the next decade!
