* Organizes walkathon, jeep rally to create stroke awareness,
* Honours ambulance drivers who embody #Precious Time
Hundreds of people including neurologists, doctors, medical staff and general public participated in a unique 'Walkathon and Jeep Rally' organized by Sagar Hospitals to create awareness about stroke on the occasion of ‘World Stroke Day’ on Sunday, Oct 30, in association with Bangalore Mudster Jeepers and Traffic Warden Association.
Sagar Hospitals also launched the 'Sagar Stroke Protocol' to mark the theme for World Stroke Day - #Precious Time. ‘Sagar Stroke Protocol’ is a step to step guide for emergency management of stroke. If the patient reaches within the golden hour, a stroke can be reversed. To achieve this goal, a very coordinated and protocol based effort is required by the treating team. ‘Sagar Stroke Protocol’ addresses and guides treatment taking our Indian scenario into consideration,” explains Ms Ishiqa Multani, President, Sagar Hospitals.
As a part of the World Stroke Day, Sagar Hospitals also felicitated the unsung heroes of Bengaluru – the Ambulance drivers, who relentlessly work round the clock to save the lives when every minute counts. The ambulance drivers shared some heart touching stories which made many eyes well up with tears.
'Minutes save lives': # Precious Time is the theme for World Stroke Day 2022. Sagar Stroke Protocol emphasised that ‘Time is brain’ and ‘Minutes save lives’. Since time is of essence when it comes to a stroke, a well-coordinated protocol based stroke program is need of the hour, said the doctors.
“Sagar is a Stroke Ready Hospital. It is important for everyone to know their nearest Stroke Ready hospital. Since stroke can be reversed if the patient reaches within golden hour, it is important for the family and neighbourhood doctors to understand this concept of being Stroke Ready,” says Dr Murali Mohan S, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon and Head of Neurosciences, Sagar Hospitals.
A stroke ready hospital has facilities to diagnose and treat emergency stroke aimed to reverse the stroke completely. The set up needs in-house MRI, Cathlab and surgical theatre. More importantly round the clock availability of stroke specialists- the Neurologist, Neuro-Interventionist and Neurosurgeons apart from stroke trained paramedical staff.
“To make Bengaluru an emergency ready city, we at Sagar Hospitals have already started basic life support programmes in various communities and corporates. The hospital aims to create first aid champions in these communities. It is extremely important for individuals to be trained in basic life support. This will help in increasing the chances of survival of victims,” feels Ms Multani.
