Smaller Towns And Cities Are Driving Demand For Electronics & Consumer Durable Brands: Justdial Consumer Insights

-          Tier II cities stand out by clocking double the demand of Tier I cities

-          Apple is the most searched smartphone brand in Tier-II cities, and also in India

-          Demand for refrigerators in Tier-II towns and cities is almost 2X of that in Tier-I cities

With the onset of the festive season, demand for branded consumer durables and electronic items in Tier-II towns and cities soared and it is now 2X of that in Tier-I cities, with Apple emerging as the most searched electronic brand across the country, reports the latest Justdial Consumer Insights.

During last year’s festive season, the demand in Tier-II towns and cities, for branded consumer durables, was 1.5X of that in Tier-I cities. This season the demand in Tier-II towns and cities was primarily led by Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Agra, Surat, Varanasi, Vadodara, Patna, and Ranchi.

Demand for smartphones, ACs, refrigerators, washing machines, smart TVs, and microwaves in Tier-II cities outstripped that in Tier-I cities. At a pan-India level, demand for smart phones and ACs contributed to almost 75% of the demand with Apple dominating the searches on the back of a 10% YOY growth.

In Tier-I cities, Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Vivo, Daikin, Oppo, Voltas, LG, IFB, and Hitachi were the consumer brands that were in high demand. Among Tier-II cities, the most searched consumer brands were Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Voltas, Daikin, LG, OnePlus, Oppo, Hitachi, and Vivo.

Commenting on the consumer trends, Prasun Kumar, CMO, Justdial, said “It is interesting to see that online demand for branded goods in Tier-II cities have surpassed Tier-I cities. The growth is driven by increasing internet penetration, rapid acceptance of online platforms and normalisation of consumption behaviour post pandemic. There seems to be a growth in disposable income as well given that expensive brands are most searched when it comes to smartphone brands in Tier-II towns and cities. After the challenges of last two years, this festive season we expect this rising demand to translate into a bumper sale bringing the much-needed cheer for India’s retail industry.”

Among smartphones, Apple was also the most searched smartphone in India, dominating 30% of the searches with YOY demand growing by 10%. The demand for Apple phones remained stable in Tier-I cities but saw a rise in Tier-II towns and cities. Samsung was the second most searched smartphone brand pan-India followed by Xiaomi, which saw a 57% YOY jump in demand. The demand for smartphones in Tier-II cities was dominated by the cities of Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Surat, and Indore, and among Tier-I cities, Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune were the top-3 cities with the maximum demand.

Voltas, Daikin, and Hitachi were the top-3 most searched brands in the country. In terms of popularity, Voltas remained the runaway leader as it dominated 41% of the total searches for ACs. Chandigarh led the demand race among Tier-II cities for ACs followed by Jaipur, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Agra. SUTUS 2022: The First Space Hotel Planned For 2027 And The Creation of Cities In Space Are Among The Projects At The Event

* Luxury tourism, which focuses on the cosmos and water, is worth more than 130 billion euros a year in Europe.

* From 28-30 September, SUTUS will bring together top national and international leaders at Les Roches Marbella: Sam Scimeni (NASA), Bernard Foing (ESA), Hiroko Asakura (JAXA), Tony Gannon (Space Florida), Simon Jenner (Axiom Space), Roman Chiporukha (Space VIP).

* The first hotel with accommodation for tourists in space, a futuristic superyacht whose main objective is to combat climate change, the creation of cities in space and the International Ocean Station, which aims to be operational by 2026, will be among the projects presented at the only space and underwater tourism event in the world.

* Brand Spain. The creation of the Spanish Space Agency (AEE) was the main feature of the Spanish presence at the third edition of this pioneering international summit, where Álvaro Giménez Cañete will be in charge of presenting his plans.

The world space and underwater tourism Summit reiterates its success with the celebration of the third edition of this pioneering event bringing together prestigious institutions and international stakeholders in space and underwater qualifications on 28, 29 and 30 September at Les Roches Marbella.

Last year saw the beginning of a revolution in the history of the cosmos. Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, flew his rocket to an altitude of 106 kilometers for ten minutes, ushering in the era of commercial space travel. The search for original and personalized experiences is propelling the future of luxury tourism towards new destinations that cross known borders, reaffirming the entrenchment of premium tourism across the world.

Luxury tourism in Europe is in fact worth between 130,000 and 170,000 million euros a year, 22% of the sector's total income, according to consultancy firm Bain & Company.

Taking place in a hybrid format, with the first day in person and two other virtual days, SUTUS ("Space & Underwater Tourism Universal Summit") has positioned itself as the benchmark forum for the world's main space agencies, last year attracting the American NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japanese JAXA. They will be joined this year by the International Space University (ISU), the Space Tourism Society (STS) and the Swiss Space Tourism Agency (Swiss Space Tourism).

As far as the business sector is concerned, more than 30 companies will be present to present the progress of their projects. All of these enjoy international recognition and nurture ambitious plans, some of them even already put into practice.

Orbital Assembly, the first hotel with accommodation for tourists in space, Space VIP, is dedicated to “space literacy” and inspiring the next generation of private astronauts, Axiom Space, which aims to create cities in space, and the Space Tourism Society, focused on “commercializing” the growing range of space experiences (real spaceflight, movies, games and even virtual worlds), are just a few examples.

A number of women such as Nancy Vermeulen, private astronaut trainer at the Space Training Academy, and retired astronaut commander Susan Kilrain, who will talk about her experience beyond planet Earth, will also be present.

Meanwhile, the still unexplored marine world will be evoked by international speakers such as Fabien Cousteau and his International Ocean Station, which is slated to be operational by 2026; Aaron Olivera, founder and CEO of Earth 300, a global environmental and scientific project created in a futuristic superyacht whose main objective is to combat climate change; and Scott Waters, president of Pisces VI Submarine, who will talk about diving tourism in the Canary Islands.

Brand Spain

The creation of the Spanish Space Agency (AEE) is the main theme of the Spanish presence at the third edition of this pioneering international summit. Álvaro Giménez Cañete, Special Delegate for the Spanish Space Agency, will be responsible for presenting the action plan for the creation of this new organization, whose headquarters a dozen cities – including Seville, Tres Cantos (Madrid), Teruel, León, Puertollano (Ciudad Real) – as well as the Canary Islands are vying to host.

In addition, this annual event will welcome renowned speakers such as underwater archaeologist Carlota Pérez Reverte, aspiring ESA astronauts Carmen García-Roger and Jorge Pla-García as well as Spanish companies internationally renowned in the space race. The latter will include Green Moon Project, an undertaking committed to space agriculture as an asset for all humanity; and Zero 2 Infinity, a company that develops high-altitude balloons to provide access to the area around space and the low-Earth orbit using a capsule and launcher transported by balloons.

Organized by Les Roches Marbella, a leading hotel training school in our country and one of the most important in the world, together with Medina Media Events, the event will host a demonstration area on the Marbella campus where representatives of each company participating will be able to present their tourism-related projects, thus opening up the experience to all those visiting the school's facilities.

Carlos Díez de la Lastra, CEO of Les Roches, says: "We are delighted that we have managed to bring the best agencies and representatives of the most exciting projects in the world to this congress, the most important in the world in the discussion of tourism in the two borders we have over our heads and under our feet".

Virtual attendees and registered companies will be able to follow all sessions via streaming and schedule video meetings with other participants and speakers, as well as visit exclusive online demos. All details, along with the official agenda and registration for the three days are now available through the Medina Media Events platform.

“Doctors Froze Newborn Baby To Save Life” At Motherhood Hospitals, Bengaluru

* Team of Neonatologists uses novel medical technology to save the life of a newborn, to calm down its racing heart~

* Newborn travels 200 km on ‘Motherhood NICU on Wheels’ to receive treatment in Bangalore

* Medical feat achieved using “Total body Cooling” to bring down body temperature from 37o Celsius to 33.5o Celsius

In a miraculous case, a specialized team of Neonatologists from Motherhood Hospitals, Bengaluru carried out a novel technique – “Total Body Cooling” procedure to save the life of a newborn baby (2-day old), who suffered a serious disturbance in the heart rhythm called neonatal supra ventricular tachycardia, that makes the heartbeat abnormally fast (250-280 per minute).

Neonatal SVT (supraventricular tachycardia)-

It is a condition where the heart beats abnormally fast

The heart rate may be as high as 250 per minute (normal is between 120 – 160 per minute)

If left untreated could lead to heart failure

The NICU team at Motherhood Hospitals, Bengaluru received an emergency call from Dr. Srinivas from Hrudaya Hospital in Anantapur where a newborn baby girl was diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) and was admitted in a critical state. SVT is a medical condition where the heart beats faster than normal (120-160 per minute). In this case, the baby’s heartbeat was almost double as compared to what is considered normal.

The NICU team at Motherhood Hospitals almost immediately left to retrieve the baby using “NICU on Wheels”, which is an all-encompassing high-end transport vehicle with all the state-of the art NICU facilities used to transport newborn or critically ill babies.

Since the distance between Anantapur and Bengaluru is more than 200 kilometers, the teams from both the hospitals decided to meet in Chikkaballapur, which is mid-way, as the baby required immediate medical attention. Upon reaching Chikkaballapur, the baby was immediately shifted to Motherhood NICU on wheels and was administered 3 doses of adenosine to slow her heart rate down. Adenosine works by stopping the heart for a second or so and then restarting there by bringing the heart rate to normal. However, even after receiving 3 doses of adenosine, the heart rate did not slow down. The baby was transferred to Motherhood NICU and was given 3 more medicines as continuous infusion to reduce the heart rate. Meanwhile, investigations including cardiac Echo, ECG, and blood tests were done to rule out other causes and ensure normal structure of the heart. Then the team went ahead to deliver shock to cardiovert the rhythm but in vain.

Seeing no signs of improvement, the medical team lead by Dr. Prathap Chandra, Neonatologist & Pediatrician from Motherhood Hospitals decided to use the Total Body Cooling technique to lower the baby’s body temperature from 37o Celsius to 33.5o Celsius. This technique is commonly used in babies who do not cry after birth and whose brain does not receive sufficient oxygen. However, for a patient diagnosed with SVT, this was one of the first times, this technique was used. Cooling helped in significantly lowering the heart rate and bringing back the normal rhythm in the baby, thus saving her life.

The baby has now completely recovered from this condition and is hale and hearty, visiting for regular checkups. The recovery of the baby can be completely owed to timely detection and treatment of the baby at the hands of specialized medical experts.

Commenting on the efforts of the doctors, Mr Vijayarathna Venkatraman, CEO at Motherhood Hospitals said “The entire team at Motherhood is committed towards providing timely medical access to patients irrespective of any geographical barriers, even if it entails going out of our way to provide the necessary service. Our patient’s health is our topmost priority, and we are proud of the fact that our team of expert clinicians and support staff were able to save the life of this child with their expertise. We offer high intensity neonatal care, 24/7 and ensure tiny new-borns born with complications are restored to health. Our department of neonatology provides state of the art treatment to newborns who need constant monitoring and care”.

Speaking about the NICU program, Dr Pallav Gupta, Head of Medical operations, Motherhood Hospitals, Bangalore said, “The Neonatology program in Motherhood is the largest in the region. We have successfully treated more than 14,000 new-born / prematurely born babies. 40% of these babies are retrieved from remote areas of Karnataka (like Koppal, Hubbali, Chikkamangaluru, Anantpur, Chitradurga, Bellary, Hassan, Kadapa and Gadag to name a few) through our Neonatal Transport – ‘NICU on Wheels’. Our integrated Neonatology Team gives the best care to babies who require NICU support.”

Dr. Prathap Chandra added, “It was one of the most challenging cases and our only priority was to save the baby’s life. Since SVT is a condition which disrupts blood flow, to vital organs, cooling helped to reduce the basal metabolic rate, thereby reducing her heart rate. The baby is now almost 4 months old & has been regularly visiting for check-ups and has recovered well.”

Expressing his joy, the baby’s grandfather Mr. Marriswamy Naik said “My family and I are eternally grateful to the entire team at Motherhood Hospitals for treating my granddaughter and giving her a new lease of life.  We had lost hope completely and were devastated to see her in that condition. Upon bringing her to Bengaluru, the doctors went out of their way to save the baby.”
