India On The Edge of Industry 4.0 Revolution, Says PM Modi

* PM Modi said that India is leading towards an industry 4.0 revolution while adding that the nation is succeeding in all areas, including digital and information technology.

PM Modi, who recently visited Germany for a 3-day visit to attend the G7 summit, said that India is leading towards an industry 4.0 revolution while adding that the nation is succeeding in all areas, including digital and information technology.

He also mentioned that India is the world's second-largest producer of mobile phones and has the third-largest startup ecosystem when speaking to the Indian community in Munich.

Modi further said India used to be at the bottom of the startup leaderboard. India now has the third-largest startup ecosystem worldwide. Similarly, India used to import even the most basic phones, it is now the second-largest producer of mobile phones in the world.

Modi also mentioned that Germany and other nations profited from the industrial revolution in the previous century. India was a slave at the time, which prevented it from utilising its advantages. But now that India is leading the globe in the fourth industrial revolution, it won't be left behind.

What is Industry 4.0?

The terms "fourth industrial revolution" and "industry 4.0" are commonly used interchangeably. It is differentiated by concepts like:

* Automation has grown since the third industrial revolution.

* Industrial IoT's ability to connect the physical and digital worlds through cyber-physical systems.

* A shift away from centralised industrial management toward a system where smart goods control the production processes

* Regulatory frameworks and closed-loop data models.

* Customisation or customising of goods.

All sorts of industrial businesses, including discrete and process manufacturing, as well as oil and gas, mining, and other industrial divisions, can use the ideas and technology of Industry 4.0.

Among the cutting-edge technologies that manufacturers are integrating into their production processes are the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning.

These smart factories use robots, embedded software, and advanced sensors to gather and analyse data to aid in decision-making.

Even more value from previously separated information is provided when operational data from ERP, supply chain, customer service, and other corporate systems are integrated with data from manufacturing processes.

However, it is also thought that utilising cutting-edge IoT devices in smart manufacturing would lead to greater productivity and improved quality. When manual inspection business models are replaced with AI-powered visual insights, manufacturing mistakes are reduced and money and time are saved.

Impacts of industry 4.0 in India

India has a unique chance to industrialise owing to the fast advancement of technology. If the correct policies are in place, India may exploit such technology developments to re-industrialize itself.

Advanced data analysis will also increase the product's production effectiveness and quality. Business analytics will concentrate on foreseeing and preventing production failures. Additionally, automation will eliminate unnecessary capital investment, shorten manufacturing cycles, and cut cycle durations.

Lower costs and an improved customer experience will be the outcome of several industrial processes being digitized. IoT and man-machine connectivity will also help supply chains by reducing lead times.

The World Economic Forum's 2018 Future of Production report, however, classifies India as a legacy nation. Therefore, even if India leads the world in innovation, technology, and overall demand potential, persistent problems like a lack of human capital and sustainability limit its capacity for future growth.

India To See 2 Exponential Growth Of Over Billion IoT Devices By 2022

All industries have been touched by the IoT bug, including healthcare, telecom, agriculture, automotive, retail and transport, but, in India’s case, IoT development will follow geography and cultural interests. India’s IoT market is forecast to grow at an aggressive CAGR of +29% by 2022, representing 5 percent of the global market.

India is turning to a new chapter in tech history. The government plans to heavily invest in smart city projects and make 100 cities more sustainable. India currently has some 60 million IoT devices, according to Deloitte, and the number is forecast to reach almost 2 billion in the next three to four years.

“I want to say it very firmly that no power on Earth can stop the march of India into becoming super digital power of the world. That is sheer entrepreneurship of young India, demographic India. They are absolutely not caged from the past,” said India’s IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

“We have already set up center of excellence,” he said. “Now for technology from cybersecurity to blockchain, we propose to set up more new centers.”

According to Prasad, the government is pushing for innovation in a wide range of technologies, including cybersecurity, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Through IoT implementation across multiple sectors, the government wants businesses and cities to work faster and more efficiently. Widespread automation has proven effective so far in cost reduction, productivity increase and data-driven insights to further improve experience and processes.

Pioneer In Automation of Life Cycle Assessments: Vitesco Technologies Rolls Out Life Cycle Engineering

* Sustainability established as a key criterion in product development.

* For optimized ecological footprint: life cycle engineering reducesenvironmental impact and increasesrecyclability.

*  University of Erlangen, Germanyconfirms Vitesco Technologies’ pioneering role in automating life cycle assessments.

With the aim of optimizing the ecological  footprint of its products and, in the long term, designing them to be CO2-neutral throughout their entire life cycle, Vitesco Technologies, a leading supplier of advanced drive technologies and electrification solutions, is intensively looking into the so-called Life Cycle Engineering (LCE).

Life cycle engineering (LCE) means that when designing and developing a product, the ecological footprintof the entire value chain is taken into account– from the extraction of raw materials for  supplied parts, through their production and transport, to the use of the finished product and its recycling at the end of its life – in order to optimize these aspects using scientific methods.

“As a provider of climate-friendly mobility solutions we are committed to  meeting high standards in terms of sustainability,” explains Anja Rivera de la Cruz, head of Sustainability at Vitesco Technologies:

“Our business model is based on the understanding that we are significantly reducing vehicle CO2 emissions with our products. Our goal is to make our production operations up to 100 percent neutral by 2030 and all our business processes along the value chain completely CO2 neutral by 2040 at the latest. To do this, we want to create a life cycle assessment (LCA) for all new product groups – as our customers, OEMs from all over the world, are increasingly asking for.” This will enable the company to analyze and make transparent how its products affect the  climate over their entire life cycle.

Vitesco Technologies also contributes its expertise to the “Umwelt Produkt” working group of the Verband der Deutschen Automobilindustrie (association of the German automotive industry), and to several initiatives of the CLEPA regarding life cycle assessments. The company’s expertiseis in high demand from automotive manufacturers companies. “Only when you know the CO2 footprint of your own actionsor a product, you can also implement suitable measures or select materials to reduce its environmental impact. We can take advantage from years of experience, extensive databases and highly specialized tools,” explains Khosrau Heidary, head of Life Cycle Engineering at Vitesco Technologies.

Prof. Dr. Alexander Martin from the University of Erlangen- Nuremberg and the Fraunhofer IIS, a proven expert in life cycle engineering, considers the company a pioneer when it comes to automating life cycle assessments: “Vitesco Technologies has developed very innovative, scientifically sound concepts in many areas that are unparalleled in the industry. Almost all major companies are working on this topic and are currently in the analysis phase. Vitesco Technologies has already completed that phase and is taking a pioneering role in the supplier industryby implementing life cycle engineering in its corporateprocesses.”

As long as a productconsists of several components, countless possibilities arise for its development and assembly. These include different design methods, materials, suppliers, supply routes and manufacturing methods, as Heidary explains: “We use mathematical methods to determine which combination can optimize the environmental footprintof a product. On this basis, we in the Life Cycle Engineering team, develop an environmentally optimized product – with  consistently high quality and the lowest possible costs.”

The pilot projectfor this initiative at Vitesco Technologies was the life cycle assessment of a high-voltage inverter– a particularly complex productwith many components that are also used in other  areas of electric vehicles. For this alone, around 400 individual components and all steps in the value chain were collected and analyzed. The method, with which life cycle assessments can be mathematically optimized in an automated manner, was developed in cooperation with the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Following the successful pilot phase, this method is now being introduced in development, production, and business processes as part of the life cycle engineering program.

Keysight Commissioned Research Finds Automated Testing Remains A Significant Challenge For Organizations

* Despite 84% stating that the majority of testing involves complex systems, few employ automated testing or use artificial intelligence

Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), a leading technology company that delivers advanced design and validation solutions to help accelerate innovation n to connect and secure the world, announced the results of a global study, commissioned by Keysight and conducted by Forrester, that surveyed test operations decision-makers to understand the state of test strategies and technologies.

The research report, titled Conquer Testing Complexities with Automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI), identified that automation is gaining inroads, with 75% of organizations using a combination of automated and manual testing. However, only 11% have a fully automated strategy. With growing complexity, the number of tests is increasing (77%) and without automation, product development slows.

According to Jeff Harris, vice president, Portfolio and Global Marketing at Keysight Technologies, “We learned in the study that companies feel pressure to do more test automation, especially when asked about the future. Manual or partially automated strategies simply can't keep up with the needs of organizations today, and without AI-powered automation, they will struggle to conquer testing complexities. Additionally, we expect the COVID pandemic to accelerate adoption of remote development, automated test sequencing. We also expect a much higher use of digital twins as development teams strive to continue working together but from different locations. At Keysight, we’re building this automation of intelligence across the workflow into our entire software product portfolio to address these needs and drive test and validation automation forward.”

The primary technical challenges resulting from testing complexities are long cycles, accurately capturing bugs and issues, and then fixing them. These problems directly impact business results and the product development process. Respondents ranked the outcomes as:

·        51% - Security breach risk

·        48% - Increased expenses

·        42% - Slower time to market

·        36% - Defective product

·        34% - Loss of revenue

However, enterprises recognize that manual and partially automated testing strategies cannot keep pace with the increasing complexity of products. As a result, 45% will consider using a fully automated approach in the next three years, a 409% growth. Over half (52%) stated they would look at AI for integrating complex test suites, a 325% growth.

By shifting to intelligent automated testing strategies, organizations expect benefits. Operational improvements anticipated by respondents include increased productivity (59%), ability to simulate product function or performance (54%) and bug fix automation or simulation to save time on fix-retest cycles (53%). The anticipated business impact spans higher quality product that increases customer satisfaction (59%), the ability to reduce time to market (50%) and more agile product development cycles (50%).

As described in the survey, the most anticipated technology or operations improvements from automation and AI are increased productivity, ability to simulate product function/performance and bug fix automation/simulation.

But a better metric for success is the business impact that organizations expect from the investment in new testing technologies such as Keysight's Automating Intelligence, which offers customers:

·        A higher-quality product that increases customer satisfaction

·        The ability to reduce product time-to-market

·        More agile product development cycles

In this study, Forrester conducted an online survey of 406 test operations decision-makers at organizations in North America, EMEA and APAC to evaluate current testing capabilities and to hear their thoughts on investing in automation (including AI). Questions provided to the participants asked about their organizations’ current testing environments, future investments, challenges and expected outcomes from testing automation.
