About Art Pune Foundation (Art2Day)
Founded in 2005, Art2Day made a modest start by showcasing works of young and upcoming artists. Priyamvada and Sanjeev Pawar the founders of Art2Day realized there was no professional platform for artists to showcase their art in the city and there was huge disparity in terms of prices and public recognition. Hence Art2day is committed to creating a greater awareness of Indian art. Art2Day creates a platform For Artist By Artist & Art Lovers to come together.
It is dedicated to the promotion of young talent and provides a platform for them to exhibit their work along with that of eminent artists. The Gallery has featured a wide range of well-known painters and sculptors. Promoted folk art and artists as well. There have been several noteworthy exhibitions of paintings, sculptures and photography till date.
Curator’s Note
India, as we know is one of the earliest cradles of civilization.
The people, the land, the culture, language, food, dressing and weather are as diverse as they can get. From the mighty Himalayas to the confluence of the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea, India has immense diversity. To express this diversity it has been the most difficult task for historians and artists alike. For thousands of years, this land has inspired travelers, conquerors and creative people.
The Indian artist not only inherits the cultural richness but also carries the burden of expressing such a diverse metaphor that we call India. From the earliest works of court painters who painted the scenes from the battles, courts and krida, to the colonial artists who depicted the flora and fauna of the huge landmasses, artists have come a full circle where they are always expected to represent the vastness and richness of India.
Indian painters have had the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of figurative works with the crescendo of Raja Ravi Verma as well. Portrayal of Indian people is always a celebration of life and festivities. Indians are incomparable when it comes to celebrations! Be it a wedding, a festival, harvest season or even a festival dedicated to our numerous deities. Celebrations have united people and brought out the best in them. This diversity has been an inspiration to portray amazing landscapes and successfully capture the moments from our otherwise still and mundane life, wherein human form remains transcendent.
