Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University, hosted the Mental Health Awareness Run 2025 on October 11 at the EDU Building, MAHE Campus. The event was organized by the Department of Student Affairs, in collaboration with the Student Support Team MAHE, Volunteer Services Organization (VSO), Sports Committee of Kasturba Medical College, and FITVIB, fitness club of KMC & MAHE. The 5K run, held as the culminating event of MAHE's Mental Health Awareness Week (October 5–11, 2025), brought together over 1,000 participants—including special children from ASARE, students, staff, their families, and students from nearby schools and colleges.
The event was graced by Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Technology & Science), and Dr. Sharath Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences). Distinguished banking sector officials were also in attendance. Representing title sponsor Federal Bank Ltd. were Mr. Sateesh, State Head – Government and Institution Business, Karnataka, and Mr. Sanjo J Joseph, Regional Head, Mangalore Region. Co-sponsors included Mr. Vadiraja K, Regional Head, Karnataka Bank; Sri H. K. Gangadhar, General Manager, Canara Bank, Manipal; and Mr. Harsh T. G., Chief Manager, Bank of Baroda, Manipal. Each dignitary shared thoughtful insights on the importance of mental health, reinforcing the event's core message.
This year's theme, "Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies," underscored the critical importance of building personal mental resilience while extending compassion and support to others—a message particularly relevant in today's complex and demanding environment.
Dr. Geetha Maiya, Director, Student Affairs, MAHE, in her welcome address stated: "This run is more than just an event. It reflects our collective commitment to stand together and recognize that seeking support is a sign of strength. We are fostering a culture where every individual feels empowered to care for themselves and support others."
The run featured multiple race categories with attractive prizes across three segments—MAHE Students, MAHE Staff, and MAHE Staff Dependents/Non-MAHE Participants. Winners in male and female categories received cash prizes of ₹5,000 (first place), ₹3,000 (second place), and ₹2,000 (third place). All finishers received medals, while registered participants received event T-shirts.
In a special outreach initiative, students from nearby high schools participated in a "Free Run" category, receiving medals in recognition of their enthusiasm and support for mental health awareness. The event also featured cultural performances by MAHE students, adding vibrancy to the day's proceedings. The program was compered by Dr. Ankitha, Assistant Director, Centre for Doctoral Studies, MAHE, Manipal.
The Mental Health Awareness Run 2025 demonstrated MAHE's ongoing commitment to creating a supportive campus environment where mental well-being is prioritized and accessible to all. Through community engagement, institutional support, and partnerships with leading financial institutions, MAHE continues to enhance visibility and reduce stigma surrounding mental health, ensuring that support services remain accessible to every member of the university community.
