Ramayana Retold Through Dolls, Rangoli at the Sri Vani School in City

The month of October is symbolic with Dasara and more so with the traditional dolls display and rangoli. For many households in the city these dolls are a matter of tradition that has been passed from generation to generation. But now, it’s not confined to people’s homes alone. The teachers at Sri Vani Education Centre have re-created scenes from the Ramayana, using miniature versions of mythological characters.

A total nine scenes from the Ramayana are currently on display at the school premises. Adding more colour to this recreation of the epic is a rangoli portraying Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana.

“Each of these nine scenes come with a hand-painted backgroud, with the dolls set up in the front.A visual delight for visitors, the teachers have put in a lot of effort to set up this installation, which took more than two weeks to complete," says Meenakshi Pillai, the art and crafts teacher at the school.
