Now An Mobile App to the Rescue of Diabetic Patients in South India

An App to help the diabetic patients who can get assistance through video clinic. Yes. First video clinic of South India for Bariatrics will be launched by Tulip’s Bariatric and Diabetes Surgery Centre. This will help patients to get expert advice and consultation on finger tip.

Highlight of this video clinic is that this pioneering “Connected Care” is combining expertise in healthcare, biomedical devices and information technology to deliver high-quality service and care to patients.

Dr Tulip has been a leader in adopting technology to deliver health care in a better way. With expensive experience of performing obesity and diabetics surgeries during the last 10 years, Dr Tulip’s has now established the first ever surgical center in south India, totally dedicated for this purpose. She is now going further to help patient to reach her with ease by establishing a video clinic.

Why this video clinic?
According to the experts, the main challenges that India is facing include lack of trained manpower including doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff which in turn resulted in delayed detection of chronic diseases in time.   Poor monitoring and management of these causing complications and increased need for hospitalization. As a result patients forced to shell more on health care services so much so that they are becoming unaffordable.

Technology to the rescue: but technological advancement come as a big blessings to the cores of patients now.  These technological advancement will help patients in getting easy access to doctors from the comfort of home, an online Health Record, reduce complications and cost, save time and money and convenience and comfort.

TODS is a centre par excellence for long term weight loss solutions and diabetes remission. One of its kind in south India dedicated to the care of India's dreaded enemy -Diabetes and obesity which seems to be growing in epidemic proportions. diabetes is a major concern in India and it’s high time we address it on a broader  platform not only offering control of blood sugar but remission of diabetes. Goal is to give precision care which is possible only because we are concentrated approach. Create awareness about diabetes remission via a surgical approach - a step forward in avoiding long term complication related to diabetes.

Instead of a multi thronged approach to treat obesity and its associated comorbidities like hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, amnesia, joint pains, GERD, infertility, using bariatric surgery as a single solution to treat multiple problems.

Unless we have stand-alone centers dedicated to the management of diabetes and obesity surgery, we will never be able to stress upon the necessity of insurance to be made available to this very large segment of health care in society.

 SG a very innovative surgery which came up as a first step to a two stage procedure for weight loss surgery in the super obese. But this procedure is now done as a stand-alone procedure for weight loss wherein the stomach is stapled vertically to create a pouch having a volume of approx 60-80 ml. The resected part of the stomach is removed from the body.

Banded procedures like the banded sleeve gastrectomy and banded gastric bypass are add-ins to the standard procedures of regular sleeve and gastric bypass. A non-adjustable ring of silicon is placed about 3-4 cms away from the OG junction either on the gastric sleeve or the gastric pouch of the gastric bypass. This is done in an attempt to continue the restrictive element of the standard procedure even years after the surgery thus ensuring long term weight loss and avoiding weight regain.

Gastric bypass: indeed the gold standard for weight loss surgery having withstood the test of time in achieving substantial weight loss and maintaining the same. Here, we create a gastric pouch having a volume of 30-40 cc and connect it to the small intestine so that the residual part of the stomach and approx 100cms of the small intestine is bypassed.

Mini gastric bypass: another variant of weight less surgery wherein a long gastric tube is created along the lesser curve and the small intestine is attached to it approx 200-250 cms from the DJ flexure.

Ideal interposition:
This is a novel procedure where a segment of the distal ileum (small intestine) is interposed between the upper part of the jejunum or joined directly to the duodenum.

GrowthStory Backed Health-Tech Startup Grow Fit Acquires Drink King

Mobile health company Grow Fit, which is committed to helping more than 300 million Indians at risk of contracting lifestyle diseases achieve peak wellness, has announced its expansion into Functional Beverages with the acquisition of Drink King. The acquisition, which was made for an undisclosed consideration of cash and stock, makes Grow Fit a one-stop solution for those seeking a companion on their preventive health and wellness journey.

Post the acquisition, Grow Fit’s offerings will span areas including expert health advice, customised diet plans, therapeutic and functional foods, and nutritional beverages.

Following the trend in the West, meal replacements are gaining popularity in India - especially among the younger generation interested in adopting a healthy lifestyle.  Analysts forecast the global meal replacement market to grow at a CAGR of 7.1% between 2016 -2020. According to a recent PWC report, India ranks among the top 10 global growth markets for nutrition F&B. With the fast paced lives of today’s generation and increasing focus on preventive healthcare, the category is expected to expand.

A nutritional beverage platform started in early 2015, Drink King provides millennials and busy professionals with wholesome beverages that could serve as a quick meal while also fulfilling daily nutritional requirements. Catering to committed gym-goers, Drink King offers customised options for special regimes like detox, muscle gain and weight loss.

Commenting on the acquisition, Jyotsna Pattabiraman, CEO at Grow Fit said: “Grow Fit combines data science, medical science and behavioural insights to guide people to a healthier, happier version of themselves. We are the only mobile health solution that goes beyond giving advice to actual implementation. Our acquisition of Drink King augments our commitment to providing our 100,000 customers comprehensive and easy solutions for all their everyday health and wellness needs”.

Ritvik Sharma and Arpit Goyal, Co-Founders, Drink King, said: Our alignment with Grow Fit helps us expand our service offering and meet the growing demand for healthy meal replacement options in India. We started Drink King after finding a lack of healthy options available both online and on-ground. What is available today is mostly either too high in sugar, or does not have enough protein, fat, or fiber. Drink King allows customers to order custom smoothies that are prepared fresh from organic fruits, green vegetables and vital supplements.”

There are around 3 million active gym goers/ health club members in India. The key to capturing this segment is customizing the health shakes to individuals that appeal to their needs and also providing them consultations round the clock. While there are plenty of options available in the market, each body reacts differently to foods and supplements. Understanding what works well for their body is of utmost importance and this is why a scientifically engineered diet is a must. The integration of Drink King into Grow Fit’s operations is a step forward in this direction.

Benefits of using meal replacement shakes and nutrition bars in weight management include:
·  Individuals are provided with a pre-measured amount of food with a known calorie level, thus negating the need to measure or weigh meals or to estimate portion sizes;
·  Food is easy to transport and prepare and requires no clean-up. Individuals can these simple, convenient preparations instead of devoting time and energy to planning, preparing, and cleaning up after a meal;
·  Dieters have reduced contact with calorie-dense foods and the consumption of shakes ad bars involves less decision-making (e.g., consuming a shake or bar during a lunch break at work is easier than going to a restaurant and making a healthy food choice in the recommended portion size to meet weight loss goals);
·  Interestingly, such shakes may further support weight loss via sensory-specific satiety. Sensory-specific satiety refers to the decreasing pleasure of tasting, smelling, or eating the same food or beverage until full or satisfied. Using monotonous meals or snacks (such as shakes or bars) triggers sensory-specific satiety, which may help individuals further decrease their caloric intake

Accenture & READ India Partner to Empower Women in Rural Karnataka

To improve the employability and livelihood of more than 150 underprivileged women and young girls, Accenture and READ India are launching a rural community development center in Bagepalli in Karnataka. The initiative will provide life and work-skills training in areas such as self-confidence, gender sensitization, sewing and stitching, computer skills, local crafts and reading and writing.

The new center will include a multimedia and communications room, an IT area for ICT-based learning, a library and places where women can attend classes, participate in trainings and receive medical examinations.  Sarva Dharma Samanvaya Trust, which has been running a school for children at Bagepalli since 2001, is providing the space for the center.  More than 850 village households lie within a five kilometer radius of it; several of the villages offer limited professional and vocational options, and they lack basic healthcare, sanitation and education facilities.

“The rural development center is an extension of our collaborative work to bring systematic change within a community,” said Rekha M. Menon, chairman and managing director, Accenture in India. “The overarching goal is to encourage other non-profit and co-funding partners to work together to build an initiative that has far reaching impact and is based on a scalable model with sustainable outcomes. A rural community thrives when the engagement and programs are multi-faceted and address various needs together in a holistic manner.”

The launch of the center reflects Accenture’s global corporate citizenship initiative, Skills to Succeed, which is equipping more than 3 million people around the world by 2020 with the skills to get a job or build a business. The new effort extends the company’s commitment in Bagepalli, where, with RuralShores, it has been providing training and employment opportunities since 2013.

According to Geeta Malhotra, Director, READ India, “Combination of regular workshops on confidence building, personality development and life skills made women realize their potential. Adding income to the family helps them to create a position for themselves and also take decisions about their children’s future. Being in the environment of education and peer learning at READ Centres helps them resolve many common personal and societal issues.”

“As part of our Skills to Succeed initiative, we now have two full time programs running in Bagepalli apart from the Impact Sourcing initiative with RuralShores,” said Kshitija Krishnaswamy, director of corporate citizenship – Accenture in India.  “At our skilling center in Bagepalli, through our partnership with DB Tech and Quest alliance, we have trained over 108 individuals and placed 87 of them in gainful employment. The rural community centre is another prong in our development efforts to raise the standard of living and employability in Bagepalli and surrounding villages.”
