Two-thirds Of Indians (66%) Have Encountered A Health Or Wellness Scam: McAfee Health & Wellness Research*

* From fake pharmacies to fraudulent wellness offers, online health scams are becoming harder to spot. McAfee helps people stay safer from suspicious links, messages, and websites.

As health and wellness content continues to dominate online conversations, new research from McAfee reveals a growing wave of scams, misinformation, and AI-generated deception targeting Indian consumers. The findings highlight how scammers are increasingly exploiting trust in influencers, wellness trends, and emerging AI technologies to spread misleading health advice and fraudulent schemes.

McAfee research* reveals that 71% of India especially young adults are being targeted by health scams which are increasingly engineered to exploit urgency, trust, and everyday online behavior. Nearly one-third of Indians surveyed reported being pushed to take immediate action through tactics such as visiting a website promoted in an ad (31%), clicking links shared via social media or messaging apps (31%), downloading an app or file (26%), or scanning a QR code (23%).

The scams themselves are becoming increasingly sophisticated and wide-ranging — from fake weight-loss or fitness products (23%) and misleading information about diseases or medical products (20%), to fake supplements or vitamins (18%) and fraudulent medical treatments or “cures” (18%). Consumers are also encountering impersonation scams involving healthcare providers or pharmacies (13%) and even government health agencies (10%), underscoring how cybercriminals are blending health misinformation with social engineering tactics to make scams appear more credible, urgent, and difficult to detect.

“Health and wellness have become a bigger part of people’s daily lives online, but so have the risks,” said Pratim Mukherjee, Senior Director of Engineering, McAfee India. “Scammers are getting better at making fake health advice, products, and offers look credible, especially as AI makes these scams easier to create and harder to spot. That’s why it’s so important for Consumers to pause, verify information through trusted sources, and think twice before clicking suspicious links or offers.”

Social Media Remains the Epicenter of Health Advice and Health Scams

Health scams are no longer confined to suspicious websites or spam emails. They are increasingly appearing across social media feeds, messaging apps, online advertisements, and influencer-led content.

64% of Indians surveyed encounter health or wellness advice on social media at least weekly

More than one-third (34%) of people surveyed encounter health advice daily or multiple times per day on social media

Social media is also the #1 place people surveyed encounter health scams (53%), followed by messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram (37%), phone calls (33%), websites or online ads (30%), email (26%), online marketplaces (24%), text messages (23%), and in-person interactions (19%)

Influencers Continue to Shape Health Decisions

Misinformation is increasingly exploiting the trust consumers place in celebrities and influencers, making manipulated health content appear more credible and authentic. In fact, 55% of Indians say celebrity or influencer endorsements impact their likelihood to trust health advice, highlighting how scammers are leveraging emotional trust, credibility, and social influence to make misleading wellness claims appear authentic and believable.

More than half of Indians surveyed (54%) say they have seen health or wellness content that appeared to be endorsed by a celebrity or public figure and was later revealed or suspected to be fake, misleading, or AI-generated

Among those who have encountered celebrity or influencer-endorsed health content, the leading platforms are YouTube (68%), Instagram (67%), Facebook (43%), social media advertisements (42%), online ads or sponsored posts (30%), X/Twitter (25%), messaging apps (22%), websites or blogs (19%), Snapchat (18%), traditional media (16%), email (15%), and text messages (13%)

66% of 25–34-year-olds have seen fake or suspicious celebrity-linked health content

Cataracts No Longer Just An Ageing Concern: Eye Specialists Report Rise In Cases Among Younger Adults

Growing prevalence of diabetes, hypertension and lifestyle-related health conditions is contributing to earlier onset of cataracts, prompting calls for greater awareness and regular eye examinations.

Cataracts, the leading cause of blindness, have long been considered a condition associated with ageing, typically affecting people in their 60s and beyond. However, ophthalmologists are now reporting a noticeable rise in cataract diagnoses among younger adults, particularly those in their 40s and 50s, and in some cases even younger, being diagnosed with cataracts much earlier than expected.

The trend comes at a time when India is witnessing an unprecedented rise in diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and other metabolic disorders among younger populations. Eye specialists say these conditions are increasingly contributing to the earlier onset of cataracts, a leading cause of avoidable blindness in the country.

Supporting these observations, a 2021 study published in Cureus found that cataracts in younger adults are often linked to underlying health conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, chronic inflammation, prolonged steroid use, metabolic disorders, trauma, and certain inherited conditions. The study identified poor glycaemic control as a significant risk factor for early cataract development.

Commenting on the trend, Dr. Supriya Sriganesh, Executive Director, Nethradhama Super Speciality Eye Hospital, said, “Over the past two to three years, we have seen a noticeable increase in cataract cases among people in their 40s and 50s. A significant proportion of these patients have conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, while others have a history of prolonged steroid use, including during post-COVID treatment. These factors appear to be accelerating changes in the eye's natural lens, resulting in cataracts being detected earlier than traditionally expected."

Specialists are also exploring the impact of changing lifestyles and environmental exposures on eye health. Sedentary routines, poor nutrition, chronic stress, increasing reliance on processed foods, and exposure to pollutants are among the factors being studied for their potential role in the earlier development of age-related eye conditions.

"A common misconception is that cataracts affect only older adults, which often leads people to overlook symptoms such as blurred vision, increased glare, difficulty seeing at night, or frequent changes in spectacle power. When cataracts develop at a younger age, they may also serve as an indicator of underlying health issues that warrant further medical evaluation. Recognising these signs early and seeking timely care is important, as modern cataract treatment is highly effective and can help restore vision while preventing unnecessary visual impairment," said Dr Sushmitha Sriganesh, Chief Medical Officer, Shraddha Eye Care Trust.

“Cataracts diagnosed at a younger age should not be dismissed as an inevitable part of ageing. In some cases, they may signal broader health concerns, making timely medical evaluation important not only for preserving vision but also for identifying and addressing underlying risk factors,” Dr. Supriya Sriganesh added.

As Cataract Awareness Month draws attention to one of the leading causes of vision loss worldwide, ophthalmologists are urging people to pay attention to changes in their vision and seek professional advice when symptoms arise. With more individuals being diagnosed at a younger age, greater awareness, routine eye examinations, and timely treatment will be key to reducing avoidable vision loss and improving long-term eye health outcomes.

* A landmark institution for India's performing arts enters a new era, reflecting the Group's enduring commitment to foster performing arts

The Aditya Birla Group today unveiled the INT Aditya Birla Performing Arts Academy, giving a new shape and renewed purpose to one of India's most storied cultural institutions. The launch marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Indian National Theatre (INT), an organisation that has shaped generations of artists and audiences since the years preceding India's Independence.

The Academy was inaugurated by Mrs. Rajashree Birla, Chairperson of the Academy, in the presence of Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, Mrs. Neerja Birla, Ms. Ananya Birla and Mr. Aryaman Vikram Birla.

The initiative reflects a defining characteristic of the Aditya Birla Group's history: the creation of institutions that become enduring developmental assets. Across generations, the Group has invested in nation-building through schools, universities, hospitals, research centres, cultural institutions and community platforms. The reimagining of INT extends that legacy, creating a space where India's artistic traditions can be preserved, celebrated and reinterpreted for future generations.

More than a performing arts venue, the Academy has been envisioned as a national centre for artistic excellence, nurturing talent across theatre, music and dance while fostering innovation and experimentation rooted in India's rich cultural heritage.

Speaking at the launch, Mrs Rajashree Birla said: "The INT Aditya Birla Performing Arts Academy is our tribute to India's extraordinary artistic heritage and to the countless individuals who have kept its traditions alive across generations. It embodies Mr. Aditya Vikram Birla’s belief that creativity, imagination and culture are essential pillars of a vibrant society. Our aspiration is to create an institution that honours our classical foundations, embraces contemporary expression and opens pathways for emerging talent. Above all, we hope it becomes a national platform where India's diverse cultural voices can converge, inspire one another and shape the future of the performing arts."

The Academy's Advisory Council brings together some of the most distinguished names in Indian performing arts, including Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Dr N. Rajam, Shankar Mahadevan, Ulhas Kashalkar, Aruna Sairam, Lalgudi GJR Krishnan, Louiz Banks, Bela Segal, U. Rajesh, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Rajit Kapur, Terence Lewis and Clint Valladares, many of whom attended the launch.

The evening celebrated the richness and diversity of India's artistic tapestry. Renowned poet, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar, the Chief Guest, engaged in an insightful conversation with Cyrus Sahukar, sharing reflections from a life spent shaping India's cultural discourse and speaking candidly about resilience, creativity and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Acclaimed vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty delivered a moving musical tribute to four legendary voices, Noor Jehan, Shobha Gurtu, Kishori Amonkar and Begum Akhtar, weaving together tradition and contemporary interpretation in a performance that captured the Academy's larger vision.

The roots of INT stretch back to the 1940s, when India was in the midst of its freedom struggle. Guided by visionaries such as Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, the institution emerged from a belief that culture and creativity were integral to the making of a nation. Over the decades, INT became a launchpad for some of India's most celebrated performers, including P. L. Deshpande, Dr Shriram Lagoo, Amrish Puri, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Smita Patil, Sanjeev Kumar, Dina Pathak, Bhakti Barve, Rohini Hattangadi, Ashok Saraf, Paresh Rawal and Swaroop Sampat.

Plans are also underway to establish a dedicated archival centre that will preserve rare musical recordings, performances and cinematic works, creating a valuable cultural repository for future generations.

As a not-for-profit initiative, the Academy's mission extends beyond artistic excellence. Through outreach, education and community engagement, it seeks to make the arts more accessible, particularly for underserved communities, enabling creativity to become a vehicle for confidence, opportunity and social inclusion.

With this inauguration, the Academy joins a long lineage of Aditya Birla institutions that strengthen society, enrich lives, and embody the Group's enduring aspiration to be a Force for Good.

Complementing this is the growing adoption in the small commercial vehicle segment, with over 17,000 Tata eSCVs on the road, further reinforcing the readiness of electric solutions across diverse terrains and applications.

Alongside product development, Tata Motors has taken an ecosystem-led approach to support adoption at scale. This includes a growing charging network through partnerships with 14+ charge point operators, EV-focused financing solutions with leading banks and NBFCs, advanced fleet management through Fleet Edge, and comprehensive uptime assurance programmes. Together, these elements are helping make electric commercial mobility a practical and viable choice for businesses today.

Samsung Redefines Premium Residential Cooling With Smart Air Care And Windfree Climate Solutions

* Powered by a 4,864 HP AI-enabled VRF infrastructure for smarter, healthier and energy-efficient living

* Specifically optimized for local conditions to address indoor air quality, connected living and occupant comfort

Samsung has announced the deployment of its next-generation residential climate solutions that combine WindFree™ cooling, PM1.0 purification, SmartThings connectivity and AI-enabled VRF technology to redefine premium living experiences in India.

Tailored specifically to meet the evolving demands of Indian urban centers where rising temperatures and deteriorating air quality are becoming everyday concerns - Samsung’s integrated ecosystem addresses consumer wellness, indoor air quality, connected living and macro energy efficiency.

The deployment represents a significant benchmark for integrated residential projects, utilizing WindFree™ air conditioning with PM1.0 purification, Wi-Fi enabled SmartThings connectivity and AI-enabled VRF outdoor units at scale.

“At Samsung, our innovation philosophy begins with understanding real consumer needs and everyday living challenges. Today’s homeowners are looking beyond conventional cooling — they expect healthier air, connected experiences, intelligent energy management and greater comfort. Our WindFree™ climate solutions are specifically optimized for local conditions and combine all these capabilities into one integrated ecosystem that is unique to Samsung,” said Vipin Agrawal, Head of SAC Business, Samsung India.

“One of the strongest examples of this vision is our partnership with Central Park Flower Valley’s The Orchard, Gurugram, where we are demonstrating how large-scale residential developments can integrate intelligent, wellness-focused and energy-efficient climate technologies to create future-ready living environments,” the spokesperson added.

Designed Around Real Consumer Challenges

Samsung’s residential climate solutions have been engineered to address some of the most pressing pain points faced by modern urban homeowners.

Tackling the “Summer Cold” Phenomenon with WindFree™

Conventional air conditioning systems often continue to expose users to direct cold airflow even after the desired room temperature has been achieved, causing discomfort commonly described as “summer cold.”

Samsung’s WindFree™ Technology addresses this challenge by dispersing cool air gently through 10,000 micro air holes, creating a “Still Air” environment with extremely low air speed. This enables users to maintain thermal comfort without the unpleasant sensation of direct cold drafts.

The solution is particularly beneficial for prolonged nighttime usage and family living environments where comfort consistency is critical.

Healthier Indoor Air Through PM1.0 Purification

With AQI levels in Delhi NCR frequently crossing safe limits, indoor air quality has become an increasing concern for homeowners.

Samsung’s WindFree™ 1 Way Cassette ACs can be equipped with an optional PM1.0 purification panel featuring a two-stage filtration system comprising a pre-filter and PM1.0 filter.

While the pre-filter captures larger dust particles and fibers, the PM1.0 filter captures ultrafine dust particles as small as 0.3 microns and sterilizes up to 99%# of bacteria trapped in the filter using electrostatic precipitator technology verified by Intertek.

The integrated purification solution helps maintain cleaner and healthier indoor environments without requiring separate standalone systems.

SmartThings Connectivity Enables Intelligent Living

As modern homebuyers increasingly expect seamless smart home experiences, Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem enables connected and intuitive climate management across residential spaces.

The integrated Wi-Fi-enabled control system allows users to remotely monitor and control indoor units through smartphones, activate voice control via Bixby and compatible voice assistants, automate cooling through geo-fencing and monitor energy usage patterns.

The ecosystem also supports interoperability with multiple smart appliances, enabling a more personalized and connected living experience.

AI-Enabled VRF Technology Optimizes Efficiency

The integrated solution is powered by Samsung’s DVM S2 VRF outdoor units featuring advanced AI-enabled optimization technologies designed to improve cooling performance and energy efficiency.

Samsung’s Active AI Pressure Control continuously analyses ambient conditions, piping distance and cooling usage patterns to dynamically optimize refrigerant pressure and operational performance. The system can fine-tune internal pressure by up to 32%, helping reduce energy consumption by up to 15%^.

By learning user cooling behavior and surrounding conditions, the AI-enabled VRF system can also proactively optimize cooling performance, including delivering faster cooling when repeated usage patterns are detected.

Additionally, Samsung’s Active AI Refrigerant Analysis uses deep learning technology to proactively monitor refrigerant levels in real time and alert installers or service engineers in case of abnormal operating conditions, helping maintain optimal efficiency and system reliability.

Innovation at Scale: Central Park Flower Valley’s The Orchard, Gurugram

Samsung’s integrated climate technologies are currently deployed at Central Park Flower Valley’s The Orchard, Gurugram — one of the largest premium residential projects in India utilizing integrated WindFree™, PM1.0 purification, SmartThings connectivity and AI-enabled VRF infrastructure at scale.

The project features deployment across 284 luxury residences, supported by a total installed capacity of 4,864 HP.

The installation includes Samsung WindFree™ 1 Way Cassette AC indoor units integrated with PM1.0 purification panels and Wi-Fi-enabled SmartThings connectivity, powered by Samsung’s DVM S2 AI-enabled VRF outdoor systems.

The deployment represents a blueprint for future-ready residential infrastructure where intelligent climate management, connected living, wellness-focused technologies and energy efficiency converge to create smarter and healthier homes for modern India.
