Armani Exchange Introduces Bollywood Star Kartik Aaryan As New Brand Ambassador for A|X Watches


Armani Exchange is pleased to announce a collaboration with Kartik Aaryan for its Fall 2019 watch campaign. A rising star in the Bollywood film scene—the Indian actor and model will represent selected styles of Armani Exchange watches through 2020.

The 28 year old made his acting debut in 2011 and by 2015 rose to fame after winning the Best Actor in a Comic Role at the Stardust Awards. He made his entry in the blockbuster club last year with his release Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and this year’s hit Luka Chuppi has made him a nationwide youth icon. Corporate Tax Relaxation to Boost Investments Across Sectors: JLL

The announcement by honourable Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman proposing to slash corporate tax for domestic companies from 30% to 22% comes at an opportune time when the economy needs a boost in investments.

To give strength to India’s amb itious ‘Make in India’ initiative, the government has proposed a tax rate of 15% for new domestic companies incorporated on or after 1st October 2019 and commences manufacturing by 31st March 2023. The measure is expected to bolster growth of industrial real estate development in the country.

According to the announcement, the total revenue foregone for the reduction in corporate tax rate and other relief estimated is at INR 1,45,000 cr. This quantum of money will act as an incentive to the industry in terms of savings and will result into further investments. Moreover, companies will also have a leeway to pass on the benefit to consumers, thereby reviving demand.

T he reduction in Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT) to 15% from the existing 18.5% for companies which do not opt for the concessional tax regime will act as a harbinger of growth. However, there will no MAT applicable for units which will opt for new concessional tax regime. This definitely is a welcome move.

This is likely to help the real estate sector and specifically promote affordable housing. The new proposal will also help in promoting the affordable housing segment. MAT provisions are applicable to the profits of the housing projects eligible for deduction under the clauses of Section 80-IBA. Section 80-IBA grants 100% exemption on profits from affordable housing projects, subject to conditions.

This would specifically support developers operating in special economic zones (SEZ). The real estate sector has been demanding the removal of MAT for SEZ developers. SEZs and their development are keys to the growth of the office segment, logistics & warehousing and manufacturing sectors in the country. Their development has in turn contributed significantly to the overall growth of the neighbouring regions and propelled the housing sector.

Water Crises in India; Water Resource Management is the Key

The world is facing the worst water crisis, including the Indian States with acute drought, waterlogging and sudden floods. It is imperative for every state to take necessary steps to resolve issues surrounding water resource management. NITI AYOG released the Composite Water Management Index (CWMI) in June 2018 to put forth the prevailing water crisis squarely in the centre of the public policy space. Presenting the efforts made by creating  about 4 lakh water harvesting structures and the encouraging results, a book entitled ‘A distinctive Water Management Story – The Rajasthan Way’ authored by Mr. Sriram Vedire, Adviser to Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, was launched today at Dr. BR Ambedkar International Centre. The book was released at a high profile event graced by Shri Om Birla, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha; Shri Prakash Javedkar, Hon’ble Minister of Environment, Forest, Climate Change, I&B, GoI; Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti, GoI; Shri G Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble MoS (Home), GoI; and Shri Sanjay Dhotre,  Hon’ble MoS (HRD), GoI.

This book elucidates the efforts taken by the State of Rajasthan under the supervision and guidance of Mr. Sriram Vedire, a water deprived state for their water resource management, processes and the use of technology for scientific planning. The book throws light on all aspects involved in this greatest challenge and elaborates the steps taken in planning, execution, monitoring and review processes.

While launching his book Mr. Sriram Vedire said, “I am honoured and overwhelmed to launch my 5th book in the presence of such honourable and inspiring personalities. I have tried to bring in the key areas of work on water resource management that we have executed in the State of Rajasthan during the past five years. The enormous results seen in providing water to the poorest of poor in the remotest village in Rajasthan has been one of the most cherishing moments of my life both professionally and personally.”

“The thought behind penning down all the innovative planning and execution practices on effective utilization and management of water resources that we implemented in Rajasthan is with the aim of guiding other states with ideas and effective processes to utilize existing water resources”, he added.

In the book, the author has also addressed the acute shortage of water in the desert state of Rajasthan and how they implemented pioneering solutions in water management by establishing a River Basin & Water Resources Planning Authority with statutory powers to plan water resources management with “River Basin” as a unit. The planning included attacking the problem from both micro and macro levels of planning. Taking river basin as a unit in planning both these micro level (bottom up approach) and macro level (top down approach) are covered in the chapter “Water Management with River Basin as a unit of planning” in the book.

The book is a fine specimen of academic writing, management and practical experience on critical issues States are facing in today’s world. The author’s previous books have been lauded by eminent personalities, especially those who have been catalysts of change in the field of water management programs and sustainable development. Toyota Kirloskar Invests in a Better Future of Primary Healthcare in Rural Karnataka

Key Highlights

TKM upgrades the Primary Healthcare Centre at Byramangala with state-of-the art medical equipment and improved healthcare services benefitting over  20,000 patients
TKM also installed an advanced Water purification unit offering clean drinking water to local community at Byramangala and also cater to medical purposes
The new Primary Healthcare Centre is now equipped with 26 diagnostic units essential to provide  primary health care services  like medical gas pipeline system, autoclave, OT table & OT lights , Ambu bag, nebulizers, ECG machine etc.

In line with its mission to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure of the local communities, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, today, inaugurated the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) at Byramangala upgraded with state-of-the art medical equipment and advanced healthcare services to benefit the residents in the community of Byramangala. The refurbished PHC was inaugurated by Mr. A Manjunath, Hon’ble MLA, Magadi Constituency along with other senior Government officials and senior management from Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Mr. Masakazu Yoshimura, Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Mr Shekar Viswanathan, Vice Chairman & Whole-time Director and Mr Naveen Soni, Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

As part of the government-funded public health system, Primary Health Centre (PHC) are state- owned rural health care facilities in India.  The PHC at Byramangala was built by the community in 1983, in Ramanagara Taluka, about 40 kms from the city of Bangalore and over 2 kms from the Toyota Kirloskar Motor plant at Bidadi. Since its inception, the Primary Health Centre at Byramangala has been offering healthcare services to residents from 4 Gram Panchayats and 30 villages. However, due to its dilapidated condition, the centre was under-utilized and was not able to provide required facilities to the patients.  The Primary Healthcare Centre at Byramangala caters to the health needs of 20000 rural population. Currently, the no. of outpatients are 50-60/ day; Delivery cases are 3-4 /month and Day care 10-15/day. With the newly constructed upgraded facility 15% increase in number of patients is expected at the centre.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor took up this project, under its CSR initiative in 2018 and constructed 4908 sq. ft. of the building as per the guidelines specified by Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS), with an investment of over Rs. 35 million to upgrade the centre and equip it with the best healthcare facilities. This upgradation of the health centre will benefit a larger number of patients in the community and help them avail advanced healthcare facilities at affordable cost.

The company also installed an advanced water purification unit at the Healthcare Centre premises bringing clean drinking water to the community. The newly-installed water purification unit not only caters to the general public for domestic purposes, but also to the ailing patients whose water requirements are more specific to medical needs for healthy recovery and prevention of possible water borne diseases. With this initiative, Toyota has been able to effectively support the affordability of required quantity & quality of water by contributing towards reduction of 92% of the total cost for such water being sourced through other vendors. Toyota installed water purification unit has four differential dispensing modes to achieve right use of such economical water source ensuring no water loss, negative ion water for medical purposes and high standard water for domestic use.

Addressing the inaugural function, Mr. A Manjunath, Hon'ble MLA, Magadi Constituency says, “We are thankful to Toyota Kirloskar Motor for extending the support in addressing the gap of quality healthcare services in local community. The dedicated support from the team at TKM and their investment will help us cater to the healthcare requirements and build a sustainable community here. The private sector has emerged as a vibrant force in India's healthcare industry, lending support in terms of providing quality healthcare infrastructure and skilled medical professionals.

We are happy that the community members of Byramangala and nearby region will be able to avail quality healthcare facilities, which will further help in reducing the health ailments in the region. The government authorities have been working tirelessly to ensure accessibility to quality healthcare systems across the region.”

Inaugurating the upgraded Primary Healthcare Centre, Mr. Masakazu Yoshimura, Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “It is very rightly said that Good Health is true wealth. Accessibility to proper healthcare facilities and lack of basic primary healthcare infrastructure have been a challenge for the rural community in India.  However, the condition is improving now with dedicated intervention from Government in improving public healthcare services. We are glad to have undertaken such initiative under CSR to reconstruct the Primary Healthcare Centre and install advanced water purification unit at Byramangala. This upgraded PHC will prove to be a benchmark for other PHC in local communities in rural Karnataka.  We will continue to extend the necessary support to further enhance the healthcare infrastructure in villages.  With this new PHC, we are confident that we will be able to offer advanced healthcare services to more rural population at an affordable cost. We are indebted to all the community members for their support in this endeavor.”

As part of Toyota’s CSR intervention, so far, the company has installed a total of 37 water units since 2012 [one in Varanasi, one in Vaishali and remaining are spread across Bangalore, Mandya and Ramanagara dist.] catering to around 6000 beneficiaries per unit. Toyota has recently initiated school health programme to address the malnutrition, anaemia and eye problems of government school children in Ramnagara district. In this project, TKM is aiming to cover 10,000 school children.

MulticoreWare Joins Forces with Uhnder to Help Accelerate Automotive Radar Development for Use in Autonomy and Mobility


MulticoreWare Inc. revealed today that it has a broad collaboration with Uhnder to help drive both software and hardware development of Uhnder’s radar technology. This collaboration entails MulticoreWare operating offshore development centers (ODC) for Uhnder and working with Uhnder and its customers on radar related development and support.

Zendesk to Further Expand its Singapore Product and Engg Teams


Zendesk, Inc., a San Francisco-headquartered customer experience and engagement software company, has solidified its position as one of Asia Pacific’s (APAC) fastest-growing technology companies with the expansion of its Singapore office. Today, the company announced that in partnership with the Economic Development Board (EDB) it will invest in and develop local talent that will see its product development and engineering team double over the next three years.

Zendesk established its footprint in Singapore by acquiring Zopim Technologies in April 2014 to expand the company’s chat capabilities. Since then, its business in the region has grown rapidly, with over 30 percent year-on-year growth. Currently, the Singapore product and engineering teams lead the end-to-end development responsibilities for Zendesk Chat. The team is also a key component to the company’s successful globally distributed development model, working closely with Zendesk’s product and engineering teams in San Francisco and Dublin, as well as supporting teams in Copenhagen, Melbourne and Montpellier.

The partnership with EDB will help expand the team’s scope into new initiatives, including some of the company’s recent announcements, such as the launch of its open and flexible CRM platform Zendesk Sunshine; the acquisition of Smooch; and WhatsApp for Zendesk, a new WhatsApp Business API connector. It also firmly positions Zendesk’s Singapore office to play a larger role in driving global innovation that will further impact the company’s growth momentum.

Some of the roles Zendesk will be looking to hire as part of the partnership with EDB include software engineers, product managers, devops engineers, security engineers, user experience researchers, and program managers, supporting the nation’s commitment to bridging the tech talent gap.

Such experiences further empower us to hone our intuition for making ever-better cars in a manner that cannot be replicated at a desk or on test courses, and thereby contribute to the development of human resources.

Since the launch of the 5 Continent Drive Project in 2014, around 520 participants have travelled across continents to take back learnings from the roads to each workplace, in each area, breaking down corporate walls, and learning from the roads. With the commencement of our journey In India, we look forward to understanding the characteristics of the Indian roads and the challenges that will come along with it,” he continued.

Also speaking at the occasion, Mr. Atsuhiro Okamoto, Executive Vice President, TMAP said, “India is a very important market for Toyota and it is with this intent that we wanted to begin the second leg of the 5 Continents Asia Drive in India. Asia is the last stage of Toyota 5 Continents Drive Project. In February 2019, the team embarked to its starting point: the Middle East. Continuing on, the teams will drive east through Asia covering countries like Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and culminating in Vietnam by November 2019.

What makes our India journey even more special is besides Toyota employees, members from Suzuki Motor Corporation/MSIL will also participate in our quest to discover the real India. Furthermore, the core of the Toyota 5 Continents Drive is reflecting and embodying Toyota’s global corporate initiative ‘Start Your Impossible’ which aims to inspire people, including our employees and stand against challenges and the impossible. Mindtree Develops New Container Acceleration Service Enabling Faster Deployment of Cloud Applications


Mindtree, a global technology services and digital transformation company, announced a new service, InnoApp for Kubernetes, enabling enterprises to deploy containerized cloud applications on Microsoft Azure, accelerating application setup and innovation. The service utilizes Kubernetes, the open source architecture for automating deployment and management of containerized applications.

Containers and container orchestration are one of the most preferred ways of designing and deploying cloud native workloads, be it application transformation based on micro services, data transformation, intelligence-based services, among others. One of the biggest challenges that architects and developers face are the governance issues around architecture, operations, policies and security.

Mindtree’s new InnoApp for Kubernetes service greatly simplifies the process for clients to launch containerized application workloads on Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service. The underlying platform for InnoApp for Kubernetes provides ready to use, industry proven infrastructure-as-code templates to accelerate app modernization for enterprises.

Key components of the service include:

·         Scanning of application code to access cloud readiness, giving insights into which legacy applications can be updated.
·         Provisioning and setup of Kubernetes clusters on Azure with analytics and logging features, automating these processes to add more efficiency.
·         Configuration of a DevOps pipeline that simplifies app deployment and configuration changes.
·         Setup of governance and security policy engines to monitor applications running on Azure Kubernetes Service, ensuring that organizations meet guidelines for risk mitigation and compliance obligations.

Mindtree has also joined the Azure Kubernetes Service program. Mindtree offers its enterprise customers specialized expertise and experience with large-scale client work within the open source modernization ecosystem. The Azure Kubernetes Service program is also part of the new Azure Advanced Specialization Competencies announced at Microsoft Inspire 2019.
