- The country’s first ridesharing insurance program in partnership with ICICI Lombard General Insurance. The policy provides driver-partners with free coverage for accidental death and disablement, hospitalization, and outpatient medical treatment in case of an accident while online on the Uber App.
- “Night Support” for driver partners has now been extended from 12 hours (8 AM - 8 PM) to 18 hours (6 AM - 12 midnight) while continuing to offer emergency assistance from 12 midnight - 6 AM.
- Driver ‘Share Trip’ Feature now allows driver partners to share the trip information with loved ones, without implicating the privacy of the rider or divulging personal information or specific drop off or pick up points. It gives drivers a way to let their friends or family members know, not just their whereabouts, but also when to expect them home. This feature will be rolled out in Bangalore on Sept. 18
- Collaboration with startups like Pit Stop for subsidized car services, Clinikk for healthcare services, Cover Fox for car insurance, Fixmygadget for mobile phone services and Cab Dost for tax advisory

Kruzr, positioned as the world’s first technology powered smart driving assistant launches their operations in the United States and United Kingdom, to address the problem of increasing number of deaths and accidents resulting from mobile phone usage while driving. Kruzr, a startup promoted by Co-founders Pallav Singh and Dinesh Fatehpuria was conceptualized and designed on the principle of ‘safety first’ when it comes to driving.
The launch comes after several months of ground research and development to understand and address the requirements of the region. ROHM Group company LAPIS Semiconductor has recently announced the availability of an RF LSI optimized for LPWA (Low Power Wide Area), which is expected to usher in a new area of wireless IoT communication.
The ML7404 is the first wireless communication LSI in the industry to feature LPWA dual-mode functionality, supporting both the Sigfox standard (subscription-based LPWA using unlicensed sub-GHz), which has been adoped in more than 30 countries and expanding in metropolitan areas including Japan, and the international protocol IEEE802.15.4K that is extremely robust against interference from the same system and has the capacity to cover more terminals under one network. This dual-mode capability enables use in a wide range of applications/specifications.
Communication modules containing this device will be released from partner companies to simplify the development of LPWA-compatible devices that contribute increased IoT adoption. In addition, the protocol stack for IEEE802.15.4k will be provided as open-source from our partner stack vendors.
In recent years, LPWA using the sub-GHz band (which is not subject to RF licensing) is attracting attention for IoT applications. However, because the specific communication protocol varies from one country/region to the next, as of yet no method has been standardized from among the diverse array of IoT networks currently in use.
LAPIS semiconductor has previously released wireless communication LSIs for sub-GHz specified low power radio base stations ahead of the competition, helping to achieve a smarter world through IoT. This time we developed an LPWA device that supports multiple methods, facilitating the early launch of IoT networks and the effective spread of applications and services.
1. Supports dual LPWA modes (Sigfox and IEEE802.15.4k)
The ML7404 is a dual-mode LPWA wireless communication LSI compatible with both IEEE802.15.4k and the Sigfox standard utilized predominately in Europe.
a) Compatible with Sigfox
Sigfox, a type of LPWA wireless communication system currently being employed in more than 30 countries around the world.
b) Supports IEE802.15.4k
The 802.15.4k standard defined by IEEE is characterized by DSSS based on orthogonal spreading codes and features high interference tolerance from the same system compared with other spread spectrum communication methods. Plus it can accommodate more terminals under the same network. This protocol utilizes the high reliability sub-GHz band that does not require a license.
2. The industry’s first hardware-based BPSK modulation circuit for Sigfox contributes to lower set power consumption
Sigfox uses the BPSK modulation method which is not employed by conventional sub-GHz communication. However, because standard Sigfox compliant LSIs do not support BPSK modulation, it is necessary to create BPSK symbol data utilizing control MCU software. Unfortunately, this requires that the control MCU be activated each time wireless communication is performed, resulting in unnecessary set power consumption. In contrast, the ML7404 integrates a BPSK modulation circuit that eliminates the need for the control MCU to operate (in the physical layer) during wireless communication, reducing system power consumption.
3. Development support
An optional evaluation kit bundles sample programs (simple MAC) and various test scenarios, with reference module designs currently being prepared. In addition, full support is offered, including manuals and tools that can be downloaded from LAPIS’ website (registration required). And in the future, communication modules integrating the ML7404 along with low power protocol stacks for IEEE802.15.4k will be released from partner companies.

In order to relieve customers of the hassle of reaching out for help in panic situations, XUV500 provides the revolutionary E-Call technology. In an unlikely event of a severe accident and airbags being deployed, the XUV500 automatically makes the call to emergency services without the intervention of the vehicle occupants. It simultaneously sends alert notifications via SMS to pre-stored numbers of ambulance, emergency services and Mahindra customer service (WithYouHamesha). The SMS contains vehicle and location details with Google map link.
E-Call technology doesn’t have to be activated each time – it is enabled automatically by default, right from the moment a smartphone is paired with the vehicle. The uniqueness of this technology is that it is extremely user-friendly, and is a frugal innovation as no additional hardware is used.
Connected Apps – Now, Imagine That
XUV500 infotainment package now includes an exclusive “Connected Apps” in addition to other smart phone connectivity technologies. In order to run these apps, the infotainment system will now have the capability to access internet via Wi-Fi hotspots.

Embedded with a tracking device, SAFER pendant can be used as a necklace or simply secured to a keychain that is programmed to trigger an alarm and send signals to pre-identified phone numbers in case of an emergency. An SOS alert will be sent to assigned guardians on double tapping the device. Users can also share their live location. An interesting feature is that a guardian doesn’t need to have a smartphone. In that case, a simple text-based address giving the SAFER user’s location is sent to the number. If a guardian does have a smartphone, they can see the location on a map or even track the movements of the SAFER user in real-time after alert is generated. The app also lets you find the nearest hospital and police station, so it makes sense to have in unfamiliar places.

The company has come this far without any external funding but going forward we are open to funding and are targeting to become a 100 crore company by 2019-20.”
